Of course. Why drill our own oil when we can depend on an Islamic nation.

My dad use to work for in the oil field in Texas in the 50's. He said they plugged up so many wells that could supply the United States for years to come but it got to expensive to drill it. The Enviromental groups really made it next to impossible to drill in this Country. California has tons of oil too that we are not using.

I can't say I'm unhappy about this decision.

The fact that parts of the pipeline would have gone over the Ogalala Aquifer, the largest underground fresh water resource in the world, killed it in my book. The risk of contaminating the drinking water for 7 states was to big a risk IMHO.

But, the media will not mention that part ever.

Exactly.  And why create jobs for our own people?  I mean that doesn't even make sense.

 Thats been in the media.

What I do not see discussed.

Currently it moves by train do we are getting it.

200 cases of immanent domain were filed by trans canada to get the land needed in Nebraska.

Oil companys are looking to export oil now because of the glut.

Without enacting more laws you will stop oil from the mdle east from beinv imported

The Canadian oil (from shale) was to be in a "sludge" form as it traveled thru the pipeline. The pipeline was to carry the sludge to Texas refineries where it would be refined to fuels and usable oil products.

If I remember right, most of the "refined" products were then to be shipped to China. So, how would that be helping us?

There would have been a bunch of temporary construction jobs, then probably a couple hundred full time jobs once it opened.

I too see no real benefit from this. For the billions of dollars it would cost, we'd be a lot better off putting up windmills in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.

They wouldn't create a lot of jobs either, but they WOULD reduce our dependence on Arab Oil. Or put solar panels on the roof of every public building in the country, same result.

After looking into it more - I think that something like it needs to be done, but the plan for this one could have been better routed.

So, this matters, but you have no interest in Canadian politics?  Sounds like you have your priorities backwards.  Maybe some knowledge in Canadian politics would help you support/understand the KPL decision . . .

The KPL would have been importing Canadian oil from Northern Alberta. Still not drilling the USA. Canadians have been against it forever (except Justin, and we voted him in knowing that Obama would veto it anyways). It was a dumb plan.

Well that shouldn't stop the pipeline, but it certainly should be not allowed.  Clean water is more important than oil, or the cost of re routing the pipeline.
