One of our high school friends is friends with my wife on Facebook. Her favorite theme is complaining about money. Her oven went out and it took months to get a new one. A car broke down and they didn't have money to fix it. On and on.
today, she posted that her dog needed emergency surgery yesterday, so she did it, and the dog died, anyway.
an er visit even to a vet isn't cheap. Plus the surgery. I can't imagine it cost less than $1000.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
All three of the things are not regular, normal bills.
They are those extra things that come up.
So saying not to blow your money and pay your bills doesn't apply in these three examples.

We spent quite a bit on Baxter's end of life care. I don't regret keeping my pet comfortable during his last days.
Husker, I hate to tell you this- you don't get to decide whether or not other people's financial decisions are foolish. You can think it, doesn't make you right.

If you run around griping about your finances, then people are gonna think, Oh, she buys Starbucks everyday, drives a car she can't afford and is taking trips to Disney. I see people who cannot live within their means everywhere and yes, they are the very ones beitching and griping while other people around live WITHIN their own means and they act like entitled, spoiled babies.
All three of the things are not regular, normal bills.

You think cars or appliances last forever? Plus, if you can EASILY pay your bills--then paying for something extra once in a while shouldn't be such a hardship unless it's a $10,000 medical bill or something. A couple of hundred bucks for a used stove or $500 for a car repair shouldn't be that big of a hardship--unless you are riding the ragged edge and having trouble paying your bills, anyway.

Then quit b!tching about how much money you don't have, how hard it is to pay your bills, and how you can't afford to get a new stove when yours goes out.

I can't imagine having animals if you can't afford the necessities in life. And even when I have had them, there were no vet bills. I gave vaccinations myself or to the park when they offered free (or really really cheap) shots.
But a living, breathing animal can't be put off a week or two.
The difference between these things are night and day.

It was a waste of money. it died, anyway.
plus, if you don't have any money, it's a fair question to ask if that is the best use of funds. Many pets are put down rather than giving the, costly treatments--especially is the prognosis is not good.

I agree with this logic. It would be a cold day in hell before I put an animal ahead of my children's comfort.
There are some unscrupulous vets out there, I am sure. Most vets, however, are not going to tell you this will work if they aren't pretty sure it will. Stuff happens--but I seriously doubt the prognosis was good here, and it was a pretty old dog. I'm not sure exactly how old, but it was more than 10.

Well, her crystal ball was probably broken that day and she couldn't afford to get it fixed because she was spending her money to try and save her dog.

I'm pretty sure this woman wouldn't either... if she even has kids.
Her crystal ball was probably clouded a bit with love.

Yeah, she kind of is. If you can't cook dinner or pick your kids up from school or whatever, that's what you are doing.

Again, I'm sure the vet likely told her the prognosis was grim.

Yep. Next she'll be b*tching about not being able to afford Christmas presents.
All you really have to do is tell her you're not going to listen to her biotch. And if you only see her posts on FB then block her and quit being a drama queen. If it's your wife telling you tell her you don't want to hear it. Easy peasy.

Not necessarily. Dogs die in routine surgeries all the time - this might have had a good prognosis.

Not that easy to block someone without causing hard feelings. shes a nice person, I just get tired of the whining, especially when she does stuff like this.

That's possible, but it was not a young dog, either.

It's actually quite simple. Unless you just want to biotch about her biotching.

Well, like a LOT of posts on here, I want to vent about something that irritates me rather than doing something IRL that I might later regret.

You can "unfollow" her. You would still be her friend, you just wouldn't see her posts unless you actually went to her page. I have a few family members that I have unfollowed, but I can still send them messages and look at something if I want to...

I agree with Husker and FNW. I love my dogs but my kids will always come first. If I don't have the money to fix a stove (which, IMO, is a pretty important part of our household) I probably can't afford to have a pet.

I have had to "unfollow" a few as well. Just go to their page and hit unfollow.
