A California man, 25, was convicted on Thursday of murdering the one-year-old daughter of his girlfriend's neighbor by crushing her with his foot.
In August 2013, Daniel Ruiz was asked to watch two children while his girlfriend Terra and her friend Andrew went to go and buy some milk.
Ruiz, who told police he felt as though the women were taking advantage of him, walked over to one-year-old Scarlett and put pressure on her chest with his large frame.
'He then placed his left foot on her chest, applying most of his 230 pounds of weight on her body,' Kathleen DiDonato, deputy district attorney, in a statement
I know. I was sorry I read it too. There is a lot of evil in the world. Personally, you don't just leave your 1 yr old child with someone's boyfriend. Non biological males are the ones who most frequently hurt kids. Is there some reason you can't take a baby to the store to get milk? Sheesh. Or, the other mom could have sat in the car with the baby while one went in to grab milk or the one goes alone to get milk. They probably have been dumping the kid off and going out to party or do their thing.
There has got to be more to this story. Nothing justifies murdering that baby. But, I'm struggling with someone feeling so put out by watching a baby for half an hour that they murder her.

It's a world full of selfish, self entitled people. That even the most minor interruptions in what they want to do send them into a murderous rage.
There is a whole culture of people out there that have kids just so they can have a baby daddy. They are not mature and have only known a bad way of life. And their friends are low lives. You know if someone is "off" you don't leave your kid with them to go get milk.

I don't think anyone would think someone they know would do this. I'm quite certain she would not have left her child with him if she thought he would hurt her.

I don't think anyone would think someone they know would do this. I'm quite certain she would not have left her child with him if she thought he would hurt her.
Perhaps she didn't think he would harm her. But you and I live in a fairly lily white world where we can't understand this whole culture of anger and violence. And we don't associate knowingly with people that are violent. Someone doesn't just snap one day and kill a kid, there would be many red flags leading up to this event.

I suspect that young women leave their two year old toddlers with unrelated male friends for a few hours and almost never have a problem.
Most guys would be fine with it. It's just that THIS guy is a sociopath.
