(D-CA), who represents southern San Francisco and San Mateo County, has announced that she will boycott any moments of silence for the victims of the San Bernardino terror attack, reinforcing a new left-wing talking point.
“I’m not going to stand up for a moment of silence again and then watch us do nothing. It’s hypocritical and it speaks to our impotence that we think that it’s good enough to just take out one minute and pray for the lives,” she said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Speier’s pledge echoes a new attack on prayer, pushed by left-wing pundits on Wednesday as the attack unfolded, and reflected in Thursday’s lead headline at the New York Daily News: “God Isn’t Fixing This.”
The meme emerged while the left was still trying to blame the terror attack in San Bernardino on the availability of guns–in the most restrictive state for firearms ownership–as the mainstream media theorized that the attack was being carried out by white right-wing militiamen, and not radical Islamic jihadists.
The idea is that those who sent “thoughts and prayers” to the victims and to law enforcement during the attack, instead of calling for immediate gun control legislation, are complicit in the murder.
“The families of those who have died don’t want our one minute of silence. They want some assurance that this kind of conduct is not going to be sanctioned in this country moving forward,” Speier said. “I’ve had it. I have had it with inaction. I’ve had it with the sense that it’s OK that we not act.”
Speier herself was shot five times during the Jonestown Massacre of 1978, when she was a legal aide to Rep. Leo Ryan, who had gone to the jungle in Guyana as part of a fact-finding mission to investigate the Peoples Temple leftist cult. As they attempted to leave at a nearby airstrip, Ryan and his delegation were attacked, while hundreds of people at the campsite committed suicide by drinking poison (the origin of the phrase “drinking the Kool-Aid”).
Hundreds attended a vigil Thursday night in San Bernardino.
Following the heinous December 2 attack that resulted in the deaths of 14 innocents in San Bernardino, CA, the New York Daily News ran a front-page story mocking GOP presidential hopefuls who prayed to God rather than calling for more gun control.
The NY Daily News front page said, “God Isn’t Fixing This.” And the story went on to mock Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97%
, Governor Chris Christie, former Governor Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, and Donald Trump—all of whom invoked God’s name on behalf of the victims and the families of the victims of the horrible attack.
According to the NY Daily News, Cruz, Christie, Bush, Carson, and Trump erred in offering prayers rather than “solutions on gun control.”
Did the NY Daily News mention that California is one of the most gun-controlled states in the Union or that they already have expanded background checks and require “assault weapons” to be registered with the state? No. But they sure mocked those who see the futility of expanding background checks that failed miserably in San Bernardino on December 2 and proved impotent in Colorado as well, where gunmen carried out high-profile shootings on November 27 and October 31.
Cruz tweeted, “Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and the first responders in San Bernardino who willingly go into harm’s way to save others.” Christie tweeted, “Praying for all those victimized by the shootings in San Bernardino, California today..” Bush tweeted, “Praying for the victims, their families & the San Bernardino first responders in the wake of this tragic shooting.” Carson tweeted, “My thoughts and prayers are with the shooting victims and their families in San Bernardino.” And Trump tweeted, “California shooting looks very bad. Good luck to law enforcement and God bless. This is when our police are so appreciated!”
So now sending prayers or having a moment of silence is a bad thing? Sure because her being a big windbag is so much more helpful. Has she actually spoken with the families or does she think she speaks for them. I saw numerous reports of people hiding from the gunman (and woman) who specifically asked for people to pray for them. Praying hurts nothing and it gives comfort to some so stuff it all those who think they can tell me not to pray.

I think she is saying "what else are we going to do to stop this kind of thing?"
Faith without works and all that.

A 'moment of silence" isn't necessarily even a prayer. It's just a moment of silence as way to just stop the world in honor of something whether you are a believer or unbeliever.

Yeah. It costs exactly NOTHING, and NO ONE said that is all that should be done.
However, since she's a dem, she'll likely propose something completely useless like some gun control measure rather than anything that actually might do some good such as broader powers for the FBI, police, and homeland security to investigate Muslims without having to worry about some PC bullsh!t.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
