Dear Carolyn: It's not me, it's them.

Dear Carolyn: Why do men pull away? Just when everything is going great? I am so tired of hearing, “It’s not you, it’s me.” And the thing is . . . they are right! It would be easy to attribute it to another woman or wanting to sleep around, but none of that applies to the last four guys I dated. So what gives?

WHY WHY WHY?

WHY WHY WHY?: No, they’re not right, said the jolly old elf. Or at least they might not be.

When one person pulls away just as things are going great, then it’s not you, it’s the other person, most likely. But when it happens a fourth time in a row, you have to face the fact of you as the common denominator.

I’m not necessarily saying there’s something about you that sends them running — it could also be that you’re attracted to a common quality in them, and it’s that quality or trait that gets in the way.

It is always possible it’s a run of bad luck, yes, but if you don’t at least look for common themes in you, the risk of a fifth bailout is a real one.

She's clingy. Things move too quickly and the guy gets bored.

I think Carolyn is right - it is either she keeps choosing the same kind of commitment-phobe men, or it is her. Let's face it, if the same thing keeps happening over and over with different people, but you are the common denominator, you really need to face the harsh reality that it really just might be you - whether it's in relationships, jobs, or any other part of life.

When someone says "it's not you, it's me"--it's you.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.

 maybe bored, maybe scared off.

When a woman tells me she wants to have my baby, on a first or second date, that seems a little too fast.

I've said it before, the one who cares the least controls the relationship.

And that is not a true loving relationship.

No. But it is the truth.
