We have a honey oak colored trim and cabinets that we are not all that fond off. We are thinking of painting it all white.

Has anyone done this before? It doesn't seem all that hard, just time consuming. Anyone have any reason we shouldn't take on that project? I kinda feel like painting wood is bad for some reason, but I like the look of white trim and cabinets.

The only thing I can add is I would not want white cabinets. They really show the dirt.

It isn't hard.

Sanding it all will be the hardest part.

Get good paint that you can scrub.

You will probably need to use kilz as an undercoat.

Talk to your friendly neighborhood ACE or Home Depot paint person.

We did this and it looks so much better. It was really easy. Just a light sanding so the paint will take and it took two coats but it came out beautiful. I'm not usually a fan of painting nice wood but what we had was a weird yellowish color that I hated.

Don't use a white white, find something softer, ask help from on of the designers at HD or where ever. I've been toying with the same idea. I love my maple cabinets but the color is not as great as I thought it was when I chose it.

We have white cabinets in the kitchen. I don't like them.

We have white cabinets. I love them. I had antiqued white ones made for the boys' bathroom. It brightens up the room. But I don't think I could take such a large project on myself. The kitchen cabinets were here when we bought the house, and the ones in the bathrooms we had custom made.

I've always liked the look of white cabinets, but we can talk about staining darker too, I'll see what DH thinks.

I painted our kitchen cabinets, in our house in Ohio.

It's a lot of work, but they came out great.

A light sand is a must.

They also told me to use enamel paint, which is much tougher than latex.

You would need to wait until spring, when you can open the windows.

Enamel paint smells a lot more than latex paint.

I love a white kitchen. We had white cabinets growing up.

Granny Ruth, Granny Rose and Grandma had white kitchens.

I actually love the white farmhouse kitchens.

I have white cabinets but they aren't painted. They are wrapped in some sort of plastic or vinyl. They wipe clean easily. I love them. They came that way when I bought the house.

 Kitchen twins!  That's what we have, too.  The custom ones are wood though, with some antiquing which is really cool.  If we re-do our kitchen, I'm going to use those.  It has a nice farmhouse look.

 When I remodeled my previous kitchen I picked greyish birch wood with a creamy muslin rinse.  They were light cream colored but the grey pattern of the wood came through giving it an antique look.  They were really pretty cabinets.

What is does it show? If you get something on it, you wipe it down.

Honey oak trim and cabinets are my worst nightmare. I would paint that crap yesterday!

No offense to anyone who has them - I just can't even deal with them.

Well, we have decided to do the trim and cabinets first, then pick a wall color, then do the floors. We will be starting over Christmas break, wish us luck!
