 So was my paternal grandfather.

Does your DD like her "special" birthday?

I graduated high school with a girl who's birthday was on leap year. Her 16th birthday party was epic. People were arrested, there was a chase through the woods, couples broke up...it was the stuff high school legends are made of. Her parents didn't even care when they got home. They pretty much said she deserved it since her real birthday only came around every 4 years.

We plan on her 16th birthday party being legend.  It's going to be on a Friday night.  But I'll be there to make sure it doesn't get to "everyone gets arrested" levels.

We do something special every 4th year.  This year, she wants to go to Great Wolf Lodge.

I think it's awesome that you make a big deal out of her bday every 4 years. She is lucky she has you.

Her "first" birthday was epic. We spent a week at Disneyworld culminating in her birthday. We had 21 people there that day.

My great grandmother was a leap year baby.

She would tell you she was only 22.

I have so much crafting to do before next Christmas. I was definitely behind this year. And then, after I gave everything away I went to one of the giant gardens for the Christmas light shows (the light are coordinated to music - it's amazing) and nearly froze to death because I didn't save myself a scarf or hat. And now my bro's GF is dropping baby hints. Nothing major, just like "we'll definitely have to move soon - we can't have any kids in this apartment....". My bro is very silent on the issue. We'll have to wait and see. There has not been a ring yet.

It was hot enough to run the A/C yesterday and cold enough today to run the furnace. My HVAC doesn't know what to do.

Mom turned the air on here yesterday as well. But only in one end of the house.

Dad was in the den with the heat on.

It should have been raining in the dining room.

Every presedential election year is a leap year.  That's how I remember it.

Why is 2100 not a leap year?

It takes Earth a certain amount of time to complete a revolution around Sun which isnearly 365.25 days (365 + 1/4).

We take a year as 365 days long, and hence to compensate for the missed .25 days, we have a leap year every 4 years.

There's a catch here; the length of an year is slightly less than 365.25 days, by 11 minutes (Leap year) hence to counter these additional 11 minutes, a leap year is skipped 3 times every 400 years.

Because of the above statistics we calculate leap year the way we do and this is why 2100 won't be a leap year.

Very interesting.

Very interesting.

If DD11 lives into her 90s, she will have a 92nd birthday, but not another one until she turns 100 in 2104.  Too bad I won't be around to make that one super special.
