Oregon bakery owners who denied service to a same-sex couple have paid $135,000 in state-ordered damages - after refusing to do so for nearly six months.

The Bureau of Labor and Industries says Aaron Klein, co-owner of the Portland-area bakery, dropped off a check Monday for $136,927.07. That includes accrued interest.

Klein also paid $7,000 earlier this month.

Damages were awarded in July for emotional suffering caused by Sweet Cakes by Melissa, which two years ago refused to make a wedding cake for Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer. The bakers said their refusal was prompted by religious beliefs.

A 2007 Oregon law protects the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people in employment, housing and public accommodations.

The state ruled it also bars private businesses from discriminating against potential customers.

Klein's lawyer Anna Harmon could not be reached for comment.

In July, Aaron and Melissa Klein said that they were the ones being discriminated against because their views are being silenced by Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian.

Aaron Klein told The Blaze: 'He [Avakian] wants to silence anyone who opposes his point of view. Unfortunately, he's doing this with the wrong Christian, because I fight back.'

He added: 'For years, we've heard same-sex marriage will not affect anybody. I'm here firsthand to tell everyone in America that it has already impacted people. Christians, get ready to take a stand. Get ready for civil disobedience.'

The Kleins refused to make the couple, who held a commitment ceremony in June 2013, a cake after learning that they were lesbians in January of that year because they disapprove of gay marriage for religious reasons.

Administrative Law Judge Alan McCullough issued a proposed order last week that meant that they must pay a bill of $135,000.

The judge's ruling was less than the $150,000 sought by administrative prosecutors and did not propose awarding damages for alleged harm from media coverage of the case.

But Klein said he and his wife will 'request a stay' in an effort to delay the judge's order that they must pay damages to the two women.

'It has the potential to financially ruin our family … [Avakian] knew that full well going into this. He did not seek business assets, he sought personal property.'

Klein, a Christian and father of five, said that he thinks the timing of the case was planned to coincide with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to legalize gay marriage nationwide.

Earlier this year the Kleins were able to raise more than $100,000 from anonymous donors on a fundraising page before it was shut down for violating GoFundMe's terms of service.

t's unclear where the rest of the money came from.

The state's Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) contends the bakery owners violated the state's anti-discrimination laws because the shop is not a registered religious institution.

The gay community has time and again claimed they simply want the right to celebrate a union with the person they love. I am not buying it and I am not fooled.

They don't want to be left alone in their decisions by any stretch of the imagination. Their full out agenda is to raid all businesses that have touted any kind of Christian message and hold them up for ridicule, they want to force Christians across the nations to stop saying it is sin, stop Christians from practicing their beliefs by not participating in any form of celebration or behavior of it, force them to accept their lifestyle INSIDE the churches, and force pastors across the nation to conduct gay marriages otherwise lose their tax exemption.

www.nationalreview.com/article/416307/war-private-mind-kevin-d-williamson: "For the culture warrior, bringing these nonconformists to heel is a strategic priority. Gay couples contemplating nuptials are not just happening into cake shops and florists with Christian proprietors — this is an organized campaign to bring the private mind under political discipline, to render certain moral dispositions untenable."

They are marching into the public schools now under the guise of clubs. And, with that status comes events like "Harvey Milk Day' and Queer Advocacy Youth Day and Transgender Remebrance day.
