I think this may have been done and yes, I realize we have an eating thread.  I just thought we could do a thread like this where we posted a lot of pictures.  Pictures of things we cooked or want to cook.  Pictures of gadgets we have or want to have.  We can post recipes here or whatever you.  This can be different than the other thread because it doesn't have to be what we are eating tonight.  You can talk about what you want to try at some point or what you're curious about.  I'll start.  DH is buying me an immersion blender and slotted scissors for my birthday.  Now I want a cake spatula too though.  One like this.

Those look nice, but I wouldn't buy anything from CakeBoss.
He was caught drunk driving, and pulled the "You can't arrest me! Don't you know who I am?!" crap. I refuse to feather his nest.

(I'm just speaking for myself. I'm not telling you what to buy.)

Oh, that was just the first picture I came across welts. I don't usually buy stuff like that. Things like Cake Boss stuff. I usually just trying to find a good quality product. Usually if you get something with a name like that you're really paying for the name.

I think in the last two years I have accumulated more and more and more cooking stuff. OTOH I'm doing more and more and more cooking! If I'm going to be cooking I like having the right tools for the job.

Thanks!  I think so!  We can ask each other for ideas or recipes or just exchange advice or tips.  Sometimes I feel like I'm clogging up the dinner thread with questions about different products.

Wouldn't have worked on me since this is the first time I have ever heard of cakeboss. Wouldn't  know him if he was standing  in front of me.

I got the Top Chef knife block set for Xmas maybe 5 years ago and I still love them.  aww

Something else that I got last year for Xmas that I really love are these salt and pepper shakers.  They go back and forth instead of in a circle.  They are great!

I thought that's what we've been doing on the other thread.

Oh well, doesn't matter to me.

I also got one of these for Xmas a few years ago. I love it! I use the spaetzle recipe from Joy of Cooking. I love spaetzle. I make it with my Chicken paprikash or beef stew or whatever! Kids love it too.

At the grocery stores around here, you can get pepper in grinders.

The refillable ones are not that expensive.

The cleaner part I have is different in that it doubles as a cover to protect the blades. But the scissor part is the same. I love them. I used them to chop herbs and also they are great on green onions.

I would put them on the must have list.  You need the salt one too.  You can experiment with so many different flavors of peppers and salts.  Seriously!  biggrin

I only use freshly ground peppers and sea salt when I cook..  I would love these.  My grinders are cumbersome and really just for garnishing.

I LOVE the multi-blade scissors! They are perfect for parsley, cilantro, chives, scallions. And clean-up is a breeze - just run them under cool running water.

I bought one of those gaga. I didn't like it. Not at all. Neither did DH. That's my opinion. I like old fashioned glove ones. I don't like the square ones because I always burn my hands. The glove ones are the only ones that work for me.

Msrock, as soon as FNW said that about the scissors I knew I had to have them. DH is going to hate this thread. My cooking list is going to explode! That's one reason why I started this. We can compare notes on cooking products.

Great thread idea!

Things I want:
the spiralizer attachment for my Kitchen Aid
canning stuff
pressure cooker

Foods I want to attempt:
piecaken (totally forgot all about attempting it for Christmas)
turducken (it intrigues me)

That's all I can think of for now. I'd love to get some quality one-on-one time with Gordon Ramsay. When we get a house, I want a good set of professional-grade knives and one of those sharpening knife blocks. I also want a good set of cookware.

My piecaken is in the oven.  But the pie broke.  We'll see how it turns out.

Home made apple pie. Boxed vanilla cake mix. Couldn't pull off home made pie and cake. We'll see how it comes out. We got the first layer of cake in and as I was laying the pie in it cracked into a bunch of sections. I think it will still be okay though.

I got this set of pots and pans and I really love them.  Another Christmas present that I asked for! lol.

But I really want this set to go with!  I need non-stick!  Pioneer Woman Vintage Speckled Cookware.  Sold at Walmart! I had them on my Xmas list this year, but took them off when I saw the Instant Pot.  I got that instead.  But I will buy these soon!

It takes me two years to go through a canister of regular iodized salt (yes, I put the date on the top of the canister). I prefer to cook with Kosher or sea salt.

My Aunt bought me a set of Belgeque cookware. Stainless steel that looks as good today as it did 20 years ago! All the lids have 2 small holes to let the steam escape, rather than condensing on the lid and adding water to your sauces/gravies. Cleans up in a breeze, and has a heavy bottom for even heat.

The one thing I'd really like is a GOOD knife sharpener. A sharp knife is safer than a dull knife. My dream would be to have a knife grinder (you know, the old fashioned kind who would drive through a neighborhood clanging his bell) come to my home and sharpen ALL of my knives and scissors.

Has anyone heard of a knife line called "Sabatier"? It says it is imported from France. I got a chef's knife in Maine back in 1996, and it fits my hand perfectly. It is well balanced, and holds a sharp edge fairly well, but I'd like to get several other sizes.

No, you wouldn't, chef.

They look cool. But you're tall. You'd be banging your head on them all the time.

Not to mention...the pans collect dust, grease, and dirt.

You'd have to wash them before every use.

Think about it.wink

I figured I'd hang it above the kitchen island so it's not in the walkway. The first time I banged my head on a pot, it'd be ripped out and the air would be blue wink

I have to wash my pans before every use any way. I have an affliction known as toddler-itis and have found some interesting things in my pans. I also found my glitter ornaments ... in one of my skillets ... carefully tucked away in the cabinet.

Well they are pricey to say the least but I have been saving and buying Le Crueset pots. I have one big stock pot, a casserole dish and a smaller Dutch oven sized one. I want a bigger one but the size I want is like $500.

That salt and pepper set came from Sur La Table.  You might be able to find them somewhere else though.  The brand is Kuhn Rikon.  I'm sure it's sold elsewhere.  I took a cooking class at Sur La Table and we used those and they were awesome! So I put them on my Xmas list.

I think that everyone should have a set of stainless steel pots and pans.  I have the Emeril Lagasse set but I'm sure there's others out there just as fine or better!

We have a Le Crueset outlet near us. I am not picky about the colors (I have Fiestaware dishes in 8 different colors) so I get whichever item I can afford in whichever color they have! Lol. I am saving up for the big one though.

The advantage of stainless steel pots and pans lies in its versatility — it’s a workhorse that goes from a stovetop to an oven to a sink full of water for easy cleanup, all without damaging the pan. Not to mention that the surface allows food to develop a great crust, even leaving behind flavorful browned bits ideal for making a pan sauce or gravy.

Read more at: www.foodnetwork.com/how-to/articles/solutions-for-common-issues-with-stainless-steel-cookware.html

Haha! I googled it to make sure I knew! the one thing I will say is if you buy a decent set, it should last you a lifetime. One thing I've learned. You need to make sure you heat the pan up before you add meat. lol!
