Found this interesting article that shows old fashioned medical treatments. As a nurse, I've always been interested in the history of medicine.
18 Vintage Medical Photos Are Both Creepy And Fascinating
With the wonders modern medicine works every day, it's easy to forget how tough the early days of medicine were. Even as the scientific method informed the development of new drugs, techniques, and tools, there were plenty of quacks looking to cash in and few avenues to hold them to account. And there were mistakes. Lots of mistakes. For many patients, the cure was often as harrowing as the disease. So have a look at the photos below and be thankful that you're living in the 21st century.

Your picture of the mental institute reminded me of a summer when I worked at a State Mental Institution and they were using electro-shock therapy. A cloth in the mouth and a fair amount of electricity applied to each side of the head. A few years later I heard this type of therapy had been done away with, but again I hear that recently it is in favor again. I can still remember how much fear the patients had on the day they got this treatment and what a dazed condition they were in after it....

I'm morbidly interested in old medical care and devices.
I really want to visit the National Medical museum.
There are several, but the one in Maryland is where I want to start.
