Wow didn't even know he was sick.  Apparently diagnosed 18 months ago with cancer.

he killed himself.
His producers press release said he lived as he always wanted to lie and he died the same way.
It was also his birthday.

I just check NPR's website.

They are listing his cause of death as cancer, just like everyone else.

I'm confused.confuse

Yeah, this is from NPR's website:

Legendary rock musician David Bowie, who influenced generations of musicians and fans, died on Sunday, two days after his 69th birthday.

A statement posted on his Facebook page and confirmed by his publicist, Steve Martin, said Bowie died peacefully, "surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer."

The singer, who had been living in New York in recent years, only released his latest album Blackstar last Friday, his birthday.

The album has been well received by critics and was intended as a "parting gift" to the world, according to long-time friend and producer Tony Visconti.

Visconti wrote on Facebook: "His death was no different from his life - a work of art."

He added: " He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us."

Right. And he made a video where he's blindfolded with little buttons for eyes, about going to heaven. He had cancer. He knew the end was near. But I still haven't heard that he ended things himself.

And, even if he did take a lethal "c0cktail" of drugs, that's his family's decision whether or not to go public.

I still haven't seen an article that states he took his own life.

Cancer is a strange animal. You can be up walking around, looking good and three days later, your dead.

I liked him in Labyrinth. And a few of his songs were ok.

But he did leave his mark on music.

Okay, that made me laugh out loud.

But seriously, I find it hypocritical when someone who really didn't care one way or another for someone suddenly idolizes the artist after their death.    Not directing this at anyone, just speaking in general.   I've noticed that a lot when a celebrity dies.  Whether it's a matter of "you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone" or just jumping on the mourning bandwagon because it's trending, I don't know.  But a name can lay dormant for years then when they die suddenly everyone never stopped being a fan?  Yeah, right.

Elvis was not one of my favorites, but I'm not going to tell his fans that...(Shhh!)

But even I can see how he changed American pop music.

I'm so glad that I saw him in HS. Roomie and I watched Labrynth last night.
If he was in hospice he could have ultimately died from the pain meds....but thats what happens sometimes in order to keep the patient comfortable. Not really classified as suicide.
Who would have thought he'd go before Keith Richards.
RIP my Thin White Duke.

I know what you mean. I've seen that too.

I can appreciate a person's contributions and the pleasure they bring others even if I don't care for what they did.

I loathe C&W, but that's a great song.
