We have never EVER been busier at work than we are right now. We are closing down our warehouse. Moving owned product to one place, distributed to another (total of about 75,000 skus). Added to that, our primary manufacturer was bought out and we have to move to a new one. All of this MUST happen by the end of March.
I went to the foot surgeon Friday and I need to have surgery. I got him to put it off until the 15th, but he was not happy about that. I will be out for 2 weeks after the surgery.
I cannot be out that long. Not right now. It could honestly affect whether my company stays afloat or not. I haven't said anything to my boss.
Please, tell me what I should do...I'm drowning here...

Take care of yourself, first. The timing sucks for them, truly. But you've been a loyal employee for awhile and they cannot discriminate against you for your new temporary disability. Now that's from a legal standpoint. From a moral standpoint, you really do need to get your foot done sooner, before delaying causes some real, bigger problems.
I like the working from home idea if you can. Also we have a lady here at work that just had foot surgery. They gave her a little scooter thing so she can keep her foot up. It actually looks way more comfortable than crutches.

Thanks yall. I'm trying to work up the courage to tell him when he gets back from lunch.
The Dr said I could not drive or go to work for 2 weeks. I'm just was thinking maybe I could take the first week off and work from home the second week...
Y'all say a prayer for me...

You are probably only going to need a day or two to "recover" and the rest is just not being able to drive or walk. You can probably get a lot done from home.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Talk to your boss, and see if there is a way you can work without driving or walking.
How close to work do you live? Maybe someone can drive you. Look into a motorized scooter, see if you can make that work. Work from home.
Tell you what I do know. Everything happens for a reason. Even when it isn't clear to us what that reason is.
Lean on God.
Praying for you.

One lady comes to each of our national sales meetings with one of these. She just uses elevators instead of escalators.

You really do need to take care of yourself first. You do not want permenant irreversadle damage to your foot. Talk to your boss as soon as possible, please.

This. Lily is right.

You should really get it done asap. When I tore things in my knee the first time I waited a long long time to take care of it. The damage was irreversible. So really, take care of it because if it gets worse you'll regret it later.

Putting it off is not going to make it any easier.
flan
Yeah, I didn't think about that. He'll probably ask you how long you've known you needed surgery.

I know i wont be fired. Thats not my worry. My boss is one of my very best friends...he was the one and only person invited to our wedding.
But he would have to work 80+ hours, and he would do it. I hate to do that to him...
This is just THE absolute worst time. 2 months from now? There wouldnt be an issue...
I've been that person that had to work the insane hours when some else got sick/hurt/whatever. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it will be hard on him. Yes, he will grumble a bit. But he will do it. Why? Because he cares about you and your well being. And he knows, if the roles were reversed, you would not hesitate to tell him to take care of himself because you got it covered.

And we have a winner.
This. 1000x's. You would do it for him and he knows it. Heck, chances are you probably already have. Take care of you first. Passengers out on their own oxygen masks before helping their children!

Dg is right. Your boss will feel horrible if you ruin your foot so you could help him. My husband is a boss/owner of a company and he would rather a employee takes care of their health. It would be different if it was just a common cold but how productive would you be later on if you ruin your foot. Talk to him.
I agree with don't wait. I agree with you'll need your foot longer than you'll need your job. I agree with see if a scooter is an option. I agree with see if someone can drive you or a coworker can pick you up and then drop you off after work.

First, take a deep breath. Second, you should really follow your doctor's advice. Bone surgery needs to be done in a timely fashion due to the way bones heal but if your doctor was OK to delay it then fine but don't put it off any longer.
Life will go on. The cogs will keep spinning. Yeah, it's inconvenient but some things just have to be done. So, go tell your boss and you have 2 weeks to put a plan into place. After the surgery, you will probably need a day or so to recover, but then you may be able to be of some assistance over the phone, by email, skype, etc or you may even be able to go into the office with crutches, cast or whatnot. Did you talk to your doctor about the recovery phase and what that will entail? You will most likely be able to be of some help, even if by phone or email. And, life goes on and things get done, even without us. It will be OK.
He was much more concerned with my foot than he was with the work. I knew that, I just didn't want him to freak out. He told me to take care of myself and do whatever I needed to do...
So surgery is the 15th...

He just came in here and asked my why I was waiting until the 15th. I told him that the Dr said that was OK. He's mildly freaking, but he's keeping it under control. I think he knows that I will do everything in my power to make sure that I leave with a clean slate. And he can call/email me with any questions...
