But WHY on earth would you plan to have it so that the funeral procession is during the time school is letting out?
Just doesn't make sense to me.

The people planning the funeral are grieving. They probably never gave school letting out a thought. There are so many overwhelming decisions to be made & quickly.
Why is that a big deal unless it is a celeb with 1000 cars?
You ever been to a funeral in the South? Not uncommon to have 100 - 200 cars. And traffic is stopped both ways to let a procession go through. Major streets can be closed for 30-45 minutes.

Yeah, I would think funeral homes would take rush hour traffic into consideration in planning the available times from which the grieving family may chose. Schools letting out is bad enough with all those maniacal parent drivers, let alone throwing a procession into the mix.
Every funeral we have ever had to plan, the times were up to us.
Every single time.
I don't mean any disrespect.
Just wondering.

I lived across the street from a school for awhile. I left for work the same time parents were dropping their darlings off. Getting out of my street, I felt like Pac-Man.

Easily 200 cars every time. And yes. Traffic comes to a standstill.
I just know when we have had to plan one, being in a bunch of traffic or getting behind a school bus was the last thing we wanted.

I got suck as one passed when the kids were in daycare. They charged me $25 per child for having to stay there until i got there. That was a lot back then...
Yes, death in inconvenient. Lily is just expressing what most of us down here experience. Its just another topic about life...or death in this case...

I can honestly say I never even considered what time school got out when planning a funeral. Traffic of any kind did not even cross my mind. I was planning around when family could be there and what times where available.
I totally get that. And i wouldn't give a rats rump either. But it IS an issue here. Funerals are treated like a presidential visit. No less than 4 police cruisers and 2 motorcycle cops. And thats for a small procession.

When my Bro's FIL passed, it had to be one of the greatest funeral processions ever. The family is Chinese and had a traditional Chinese Funeral. The FIL lived in a Suburb of Boston; if you have ever been to Boston you know how narrow the streets are, how ridiculous the number of traffic lights there are and the traffic! Well I was the first car after the family's limo. The limo had to drive from China Town to Brookline so the family could walk into their house and out again. Anyway, there were at least 5 motorcycle cops assigned to the processions. There I was racing through the streets of Boston and through red lights as the cops kept the traffic at bay. It was great! Best time I ever had in Boston!

They used to be like that here when I was growing up. EVERYONE stopped to let the procession pass, not so anymore.

When my great grandfather passed, businesses closed.
The funeral was held in a 2000 seat church and people were still standing along the walls and out in the vestibule.
I think every police officer in the state and a lot for neighboring states were here.
It was massive.

When daddy died, they set up chairs outside the funeral home. Easily 1000 people at his funeral. The procession was miles long. It was the most amazing thing i had ever seen. Joe Namath was there. He sat in the back. When the family left, he caught my eye. We were one of the last ones to leave daddys grave...

Pawpaw held office here. He was a circuit judge at one point.
He also held a fairly high office in the Methodist church. Can't remember what it was, I was 12 when he passed.
And thenjoy there was my pawpaw on my mom's side.
He was an auctioneer. He worked auctions from coast to coast.
We had people from everywhere come in.

My grandpa's funeral was like that. The church was completely packed and people were standing outside. I swear it was nearly everyone in the city that showed up. Everyone knew and loved him.
I'm going to a funeral tomorrow. My friend/co-worker's husband. I was going to take the family, but with #2 not up to par, I think I'll just go alone. It's only a couple hours away.
