Family is taking me out for my birthday tonight. Been a lot of stuff going on so I put it off till tonight.

Not real sure where. Doesn't matter, as long as we are together.

What's everyone else up to?

We have SS for the weekend. Doing a Thai dinner Saturday. Hope he's stayed out of trouble this week so we can do some things with him. I still have lettuce I have to plant too.

I'm soooo excited! DD's first basketball tourny is this weekend! We are leaving when she gets home from school. It's about a 2.5hr drive and we are going to stay the weekend. Kind of a mini vacay for us.

You can come, too!  I'm going the other direction when I get to Chattanooga or I'd have called and made plans.  You know I'm not going to pass up an opportunity to stop and see you!  But, we're going to be a few hours away.  Tennessee is LONG.

Well, WIDE, actually.

Oh, Lord. I would have died.

They dont like to use dissolving stitches on feet. I think because there is too much of a chance of them ripping easily.

Interestingly enough, I felt less pain if I watched. When I closed my eyes it was way worse...

Ugh, DD has been home sick since Tuesday (I still think she could have made it through that day). She just has a cold with a fever. I have errands to run and I really need to go grocery shopping, but I guess I'll have to wait til the weekend.

She's not old enough to leave at home for a few hours while you shop?  If she's sick she'll probably just lay on the couch watching TV.

She just turned 8, so no, I don't think so. Plus we live kinda out of the way, so I'd be further away than I'd like, and we don't have a home phone, so there would be no way for her to get a hold of anyone if needed.

She is feeling better today, but her temp is still around 100 (not technically a fever) and she is in the in-between stage of having lots of energy and wanting to play and then getting worn out easily.

Have fun, LL.

Ouch, O4! You should have bopper him on the head with each one.

NAOW, dose her up with Tylenol or Motrin. That'll give you a good 3-4 hours. Long enough to get groceries anyway.

Hope all the sick geeks feel better.

I thought she was a little older than that.  Plus I'm a child of the 70s who's parents would definitely be reported to CPS in this era.

How old is old enough to be left alone? Just curious as to thoughts.

Yikes about the stitches!

Have fun, LL. BYOB if you're in a dry county.

Feel better, flan.

Enjoy your celebration, Lily!

Good luck to LGS's daughter!

Enjoy your time with SS, NJN!

Waiting on the cleaning ladies here.

I think it depends on the kid, how far you are going, how long you will be gone. That kind of thing.

I started letting mine stay home for short periods around 8.

But that was for just a few minutes. Day time only. Like running to the school to pick up a sibling when they were home sick.

It's exactly one mile from my driveway to the elementary and middle school driveways.

My state doesn't have an age requirement so technically I could whenever, but I don't think it's time yet. My mom started leaving me alone in 4th grade when I was 9/10 for errands and small time away. It was 5th grade when I was allowed to walk home from school and stay alone until she came home at 6.

Yea, with where we live, there isn't much I can go do quickly.

ETA: and we would definitely need to get a home phone or cell phone before I would leave her by herself. DH says the kids will not have cells until they can pay for them themselves, like he did, but it'd be way cheaper to just add a line to our current cell phone plan, but then again, I'm not sure I would want my elementary aged kid to have a cell phone either.

I still have a landline. I'm old & don't like talking on my cell. I feel like I can't hear very well & it annoys me when someone is on their cell & they keep fading in & out.

I was 8 & my brother was 6 when we started staying home alone after school & in the summer. We went to a sitter before that but she was horrible human being. She made my mom bring our own Kool-Aid & lunches. Then as soon as my mom left she locked us outside all day & fed our food to her kids. My mom thought we were exaggerating. My brother knew one of the neighbor kids from preschool & his mom would feed us lunch. She told my mom & we never went back. My mom figured we were better off on our own.
