I was wondering where the Geeks vote. Most of our polling places are churches. Probably about 85%. There a couple of Fire Halls, and a rec center or two, but the majority are in church fellowship halls.
Were do you go to vote?

Our county has little voting precinct houses and uses churches. The neighboring county uses schools which is crazy to me - too disruptive. They will close school on the November voting day, but today people are just going into the schools with the kids there.
My personal one is a little voting house on land next to the recycling center -that is all it is used for. It was crowded today for a Primary. I've never had to wait in line before except on the big day.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
It was at the elementary schools around here but the old people keep mowing down the children. I mean bad. Moved to local churches. I go to the Greek church in the room where they gamble. The smell? Gag.
We go to a church. It's right next door to an elementary school. So close that some parents use the church parking lot to pick up their kids.

In California it was in people's homes. Sometimes their garages, sometimes their living rooms. My grandparents' house was a polling place at one point. In WV, it was churches. Here in VA, it's elementary schools. They closed the county schools today because they were worried about crowds and security problems. I think they should do it in churches. I think schools is a security risk.
I vote at the library here. before the library it was the local DNR office.
In Indiana I voted at a church, a high school and a fire station depending on where I lived. The basketball arena at my college was also a polling location.
Churches make the most sense - they are used very little during the week, and usually not on Tuesdays. Of course, some people whine that it is a violation of church/state. It's a BUILDING. Rent it for the day.

But But But...we can't have tax dollars going to CHURCHES! That's unconstitutional!!!!

I don't think that by holding voting in a church it is violating church and state. Quite the opposite. I feel like if you belong to a church it's more likely to encourage you to vote and be a responsible citizen. Plus, the churches aren't ENDORSING anyone. At the place we went to vote DH started to talk about a new amendment for vets and they told him to be quiet or leave. They absolutely do not allow you to stand inside the building and talk about your opinion. They said you have to be five hundred feet from the building to do that. There were all kinds of signs and people out there in the parking lot for different campaigns but they were far back from the building. So I don't know how it is other places but here they keep it really separate.

That's Federal Law...you can't wear a shirt or a button with a candidate's name within 500 feet of the doors of a polling place. They will kick you out real quick...

I do remember the Carter/Reagan vote. People were lined up out the door at my elementary school. Voting was in the library.
I remember every time a class went by there was "vote Carter" or "vote Reagan" chants coming from the kids.
I think that's the first election I actually knew what was going on.

Our voting took place the past two Saturdays. I vote at a small community center less than a mile from my house. Most of the voting takes place at the schools. Schools are closed on election days. Can't buy lottery tickets either.
I don't know for sure where all the other voting places are.
Not alcohol is sold on voting days.

Although in all fairness he was a Trump supporter so getting drunk while he worked was probably the only way he could live with himself!

HAHAHA!
I really don't know how the poll workers here do it. TN is a Voter ID state. You have to have a valid photo ID to vote. People get all bent out of shape and refuse to show ID, saying that is racist to require an ID and cause all kinds of ruckus. It's unbelievable.

Geez. I was chatting with the ladies running the lists, and we were discussing Bernie and stuff, and everyone in the room happily chimed in that they were voting for him.
I BROKE THE LAW.

Seriously?
Yeah...
In TN, you can't but liquor on any Sunday, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, or New Years Day (but you can on NYE). Crazy liquor laws and people that move here FREAK THE HECK OUT. Seriously...
Oh and no beer on Sunday until noon...

The illogic is mindblowing ...
Yeah, they say they are too poor to get a state issued ID. (They are free). Then they say they can't get to the DMV to get a state issued ID (because they are so poor). Then when someone counters that if they are that poor, they can get government assistance. (they reply that they DO get government assistance). Well, you have to have a state photo ID for that.
Then they call you racist. Been there, done that...

Well, I didn't know. Nobody said anything. It is very casual here. Although they do ask for ID. It is a little silly.
"Hi Dona! How is that puppy of yours doing? I saw on Facebook she was sick. Oh, can I see your ID?" I don't mind at all, just think it js a little silly when they know you by name.
I told the boys this morning about how in the last election people went in and voted on behalf of people who were dead. Cheaters. They were disgusted.
I wish they required proof of citizenship when registering to vote. And I wish every state required photo ID.
No kidding.
You need 3 pieces of proof that you are who you are and where you live to get a drivers license but voting requires nothing in most places.
You need an ID here.Thankfully.

It's probably very different in a really small town. I would imagine. As long as no one complains I guess it doesn't matter really. Personally I don't care what other people talk about in the building. I know who I'm voting for when I go in. Now I don't like to be accosted and have stuff shoved in my face. If I tell you no, back the hell off. And we have to show our DL. Not a big deal.

It's not just that. You are supposed to have a VALID state ID. If yours is expired, you cannot vote.

Same lady checks my license every single time. And I already know her. But she looks at my license and looks at me.
They check ours. I don't think they know us though.

I was a poll worker in Indiana. I worked the last presidential election. I don't remember anyone getting upset woth me about having to show their ID.
You have to show ID in Ohio too. The person that checks my ID at my polling place was my 2nd grade teacher and has known my parents for nearly 50 years. But I gladly show my ID, it's the rule, no big deal.
Oh, and I did one time vote for a guy because he was standing in the parking lot. It was the general election and it was miserable outside. Cold and sleeting. This guy was running for city counsel and was greeting people. He was a third party candidate and got like 2% of the vote. But I was impressed with his commitment, so I voted for him.
We voted at churches and schools. But in MN, we are a caucus state. So if you cannot show up at the polling place between the hours of 6:30pm and 8:00pm, you cannot vote and you get no say. It's very unfair I think. If you work shift work and can't go, you are disenfranchised. It's really not cool IMHO. Once you get there, you can ask for just the ballot and vote and leave without caucusing (selecting delegates, etc). But you can only pick up the ballots during that hour and a half.

I think that voting where I live is done at schools currently, but with my job and traveling, I haven't voted on an actual official election or voting day since early voting at the Voter's Registration Office was an option.
