Oscar Movies

Every year, G and I try to watch all of the Oscar nominated movies.  We are almost through this year.

We watched Mad Max and Spotlight this weekend, Bridge of Spies and The Martian last weekend.

He watched the Revenant.  I can't do it.

This week will be The Big Short and Brooklyn.

He will probably watch The Room.  That's another I just can't watch.

Honestly, IMO, none of these were award worthy.  They were OK movies, just nothing spectacular.  Have you seen any of these?  Did you actually like them?

I gave up on the Oscars a long time ago. Rarely are they actually about the best movies. They are more about who likes who in the Academy and showbiz politics.

I haven't seen any of them. Some I haven't even heard of. I did read Room. I enjoyed the book.

I only know of the Spotlight because my hairdresser told me. The others, nope.

I liked Bridge of Spies. I thought Tom Hanks was awesome. But I love Tom Hanks.

It is actually just Room.  It is about a little boy & his mother who live in a single room.  The child was born there & has never been outside.  She is teaching him words & he sort of personifies inanimate objects.  Chair is named chair, rug is named rug, etc.  He has no idea there is an outside world.  His mother does because she was abducted as a college student & that is how they end up locked in Room.  It is sad, it is poignant their love for each other & I highly recommend the book.

The story line almost sounds like the mother and daughter who escaped from the nut job out east who also had two other captives.

Not sure I can handle that movie either.

Sort of yes.  But it is told from the 5 yo boy's point of view.  That is one thing about the book I forgot to mention.  It took me a little while to get into the cadence of the story because it is written like a 5 yo speaks.  So it might not be readable for a total grammar Nazi.  But once I let that go it was a very good story.

It's an amazing story. I think it was based on the German incident (sad that there are several to choose from).

It topped the best seller lists for a long time.

I read the book. I can't imagine how it would translate well on the silver screen.

I'd probably be disappointed.

Haven't seen any of them.

Jesse read and watched The Martian. Said the book was better than the movie but the movie had a better ending.

I liked the original Mad Max movies.

Back when Mel Gibson was super hot.

Loved Thunder dome. Tina Turner was awesome.

I could never get into them.  And I was a movie person, I just didn't like those.

I normally love mad Max, but this one seemed to drag on for me. I watched the blue ray version so perhaps I got more movie at home than what folks got in the theater and that is why it felt drawn out. Normally I prefer a story with more content, so this was unusual for me.
