not a huge market. i had a hard time dressing DD when she born. Even the preemie diapers were too big the first few weeks. I would dress her in leggings and fold them up or just in the sleeping bad style night gowns.

DD12 had to wear preemie clothes the first couple of weeks. Luckily, I had a friend who sent me some. But I'm looking for a gift - she's having twins, a boy and a girl, and they are taking them at 30 weeks. These babies are going to be beyond tiny for a while.

Too bad I gave all of DD's away. She had some of the cutest outfits, ones that were unique. My mother and her friends bought be stuff at a specialty boutique store in the town I grew up in. Not a chain so the name wouldn't help.
Target and Kohls and Macy's have some.

Of course, with so few choices, they are likely to get the same thing from people.
Believe me, they won't mind. The babies do grow out of them quick so make sure you buy 0-3 months too
Oh, I have other stuff I bought already. But they just found out that they have to deliver really early. One of the placentas did not develop fully and so one of the babies is not growing enough. They are going to deliver them the first week of April when they reach 30 weeks.

Oh those babies will be really small and need the preemie clothes for awhile. But will also be in an incubator for awhile so other than onesies, clothes are out.

OH! We have a Carters outlet a little ways a way - I never go over there. I'll try that next weekend if I can't find anything this week around here.
I didn't like the Macy's selections and I can't get the Carters website to work right searching. JC Penney had 4 on the site - not what I'm looking for. I want something basic but nice.
I'll try target.

Will they need clothes for a while? Won't they keep them in the NICU for about a month, maybe two?
I'd say the gowns with the elastic at the bottom would be best at first.
And try doll clothes.
Crazy? No, a friend of mine had a preemie. She found that doll clothes fit best.
The sleepers and such were the same.
And walmart carries preemie sizes.

Word of advice from a mom of preemies. They will spend time in the NICU, gaining weight. By the time the children are released home, they will most likely fit in regular baby clothes. While in the hospital, there's enough to worry about besides what they are wearing. The hospital onsies were good enough for me.
I had a lot of preemie clothes that I received as gifts which went unused.
That's what I was thinking, they won't let them leave the hospital till they are a certain weight and they will be connected to machines most likely.
I would suggest getting mom and dad a really great pair of comfortable house shoes and some snacks instead of preemie clothes.

Totally agree. DS wore a diaper and undershirt while in NICU and didn't have real clothes until the day he came home. By then he weighed 5 pounds and newborn sizes fit him.

I think a survival kit for the parents during the NICU stay would be really appreciated. Maybe a throw blanket and some sudoku books? Or a restaurant gift card or some freezer meals.
Bunny only had to stay one week, but I pretty much spent the whole week at the hospital. We did go home to sleep, but many of the other parents were at the hospital around the clock.

Yep. My nieces were taken at 24 weeks and were one pound one ounce and one pound fifteen ounces. They spent about three or so months in NICU. All they wore was diapers and the little shirts the hospital put them in.

Newborn clothing was way too big for DD when she was born. she was just under 5lbs. When she was released from the NICU she hadn't gained much weight and newborn clothes were too big.

See, this is what I'm thinking. I mean, DD12 couldn't even wear newborn clothes, they were too big. She was born as 6 lbs 2oz and lost 1/2 a pound the first week.

At 30 weeks, that baby is going to be about 3 pounds.
It's lungs haven't developed enough to support it and its brain is still developing the wrinkles and such.
Its skin will probably still be thin and it won't have the fat cells it needs to stay warm.
This is going to be a very fragile little baby.
It'll be in one of those enclosed incubators.
That family is going to need a lot of prayer.

Personally, I appreciated receiving clothes they could grow into rather than ones that were too small. I felt very grateful I received everything from preemie sizes (which were never used) to 1Ts. It was one less thing to worry about, knowing they had clothes waiting for them to just grow.
My boys were close to 5 lbs when they came home and fit into newborn clothes just fine. But they were long, measuring at 18 and 18 3/4 inches at birth. Not sure how long they were when they were released. They had them on enfamil for preemies which is pretty high in calories so it didn't take long for them to bulk up.
Having absolutely zero experience with newborns, so they didn't seem small at all to me.
