Many of the "hot topics" here are very predictable. After posting with the same group of people for years, it's not hard to predict what someone is going to say.
One of the reasons I love message boards is that I enjoy learning about different lifestyles, etc. You can actually make friends with people you would never meet IRL.
But do the same long-winded threads just re-hash what we all believe?
For me, the only thing that comes to mind is the Duggar family. While I didn't change my mind, some of the comments did make me examine my beliefs.
I think I have become a little more open minded and more aware of other's viewpoints. My mind may have been changed on occasion, but I can't name a particular moment.
My stance of SSM, or more accurately Civil Unions changed because of Squeakers. I was 100% against any legal acknowledgement. I have totally change my mind.

Not really. I've learned I can listen to others viewpoints and even understand them without having to dislike the person. I don't have to accept the same viewpoint though.

With the recent political hot threads, I like Dona's perspective. Although I am not a Bernie supporter and all his campaign platforms, Dona's angst with the Dem process is the exact same angst anti GOP establishment conservatives have. She makes me not fear so much for the younger generation.

I have changed my mind about some things and learned a lot about things I wasn't well versed in. I have not, nor will I ever, change any of my beliefs about God and his teachings, however.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Maybe not changed my mind per se, but the way I view gay marriage and LBGT right in general was heavily influenced by joining the gay men message board in my early teens. I had thought very little about the subject, but they remain the most warm, kind, funny and welcoming board I have been a part of to this day. And they were extremely welcoming to a young girl stumbling in, and never made me feel threatened or unwelcome.

That is actually awesome.

This board changed her mind on this subject and it's awesome, it changed my mind on Trump but that's disturbing? You seriously need help flannie.

So you base your vote for POTUS on opinions on a message board?! How disturbing.

Perhaps she read through all the nastiness and read the arguments brought forward. Often people change their opinion when presented with different perspectives that make sense. That is the benefit of a good debate.

Yes, I've definitely learned things. Something Czech said the other day made me try to remember a specific example.
I feel like I am developing my opinions all the time. And, having a good, quality debate helps in that regard. I think that I have become more libertarian in some of my opinions. I mean, i am of the mindset of govt butting OUT and let us adults figure out our own lives. Knee jerk reactions to make laws about everything is disturbing.

THANK YOU!
Except for certain core beliefs, I think that if we, as humans, don't keep thinking, we stagnate. USE the mind you were given.
Well, like dogpiling some candidate because they dont' have the same opinions they had 20 years ago. Well, i have changed my opinions in some larger ways and some more subtle ways because I like to look for new knowledge and ways of thinking.
Like guns for instance. I used to think having guns laying around was no big deal. Heck, everyone had guns when i was a kid. We would have never dreamed to touch them. Well, now the world has changed. And, I think it is wrong to put the onus and responsibility for gun safety on the child rather than the adult. That is nonsensical to me. Keep your guns safely secured AND teach your child about responsible gun safety and owership.

You taught me to love the Kennedy's!
Hahahahaha
Well now that's just silly.

Heee! Wait until she sees it! I am laughing away already!
Why? There are some topics i have been thinking on and studying for years. And, now that we have well developed and thought out opinions doesn't mean we will change them with the wind.

No, but not sure how that is some indictment on his thinking? We evaluate opinions and facts and knowledge and draw our own conclusions. Not changing your mind on something doesn't mean you are 'close minded' or whatever if that is what you are trying to imply. BTW, are you going to decide to become a conservative or vote for Trump or protest against abortion in light of learning about fetal development instead of the the lies of PP?

Calm down.
The OP was asking IF you had ever changed your mind and why...
To answer the original question, no, I have not changed my mind because of something I read on a message board. I have my own beliefs and opinions colored by past, present and future life experiences. I know what I know and believe what I believe, and no one except me will change that. I don’t really read a lot of threads on here or bother to reply because of the incredible level of bickering, animosity, judgment and hatred present on the majority of threads. Seriously, it is no wonder there are so many people signed up on this board and just a couple of handfuls of those who post regularly. The negativity here really takes the cake, and I belong to a few other message boards. But I am sure the majority of posters here like it that way, which is unfortunate for those many who remain silent. I cannot blame them for doing so. I have not learned anything knowledge-wise on this board that I did not know already.
I myself am liberal, humanist, socialist. I support the pro-choice and LGBT movements and many other causes that conservatives do not. I am not religious. Never have been. I have seen and experienced way too much in my lifetimes to be as such. The way I see the world and society as a whole is colored by already knowing what the future holds. So I adjust my behavior and world outlook accordingly, to better prepare myself and others for what is to come. I know that a great many people on this planet dislike change, and my sympathy to them in the years to come. This is who I am. Flame away if you must.

Well, many other boards are heavily moderated by liberals and you are not even allowed to speak of any controversial topics such as abortion, religion or anything that liberals don't support. So, yeah. Here, you are allowed to be an adult and being an adult means sometimes you might hear opinions that hurt your wittle feelings but you deal with it like an adult.
