It is policy at Target to check on any car in the lot overnight. In fact, we were not supposed to leave the lot at close if there was a car in it that we didn't recognize. We were supposed to approach if we felt safe doing so and ask anyone inside to move the car. If we didn't feel safe approaching, we were supposed to take note and call the police in the morning if it was still there. This store is going to have some explaining to do. Someone will probably lose their job over this.

If it is a 24 hour type store though, do they still do that ? If it's open all night, wouldn't there always be cars there? You would think someone would notice kids crying in a locked car.

Well, i mean what sleeping pills can you buy over the counter? Benadryl and Nyquil is unlikely to kill you in an overdose. Not saying it can't be done but it is pretty hard to kill yourself with over the counter meds.

We dont have any stand alone Targets here, so it would be pretty impossible to notice if a car had been there for a while.

Yes, our Walmart is 24 hrs. And, there is a McDs and other stores around it. I don't think anyone would really notice if a car had been there. And, depending on the car, if it had really dark tinted windows, you wouldn't know a kid was in there. But, I would think that the husband and police would go and check every possible place she might have been,

I think it would be very hard to grow up without your mother. I can't imagine that. And, we have very real mental health issues here that we sweep under the rug. People are desperate and where can they go for help?

A Super Target though is going to be a standalone and they are NOT open 24 hours. And it is required of them to do a parking lot sweep at close and again upon arrival in the morning. But I only worked for the company. What could I possibly know.

Ok. I mean I don't know that and you said that is the policy so of course they should look into this and see why this was missed. I would assume they have cameras of the lot as well. 3 days without water is lucky these little kids didnt die of dehydration.

But I do know the policy of the store. It's in all the training materials for managers. You do a parking lot sweep at open and at close. And you report to the police any car that has not moved in a day.

That's really interesting. I have been to over 50 Super Targets. Every one is a stand alone because they are so massive and their parks lots are so massive that there is no way another store could even be attached. But I believe you. It's just interesting because in the training materials and in the corporate strategy they are all labeled as stand alone. Regardless they are not open 24 hours.

The Super Target I frequent the most is in a strip mall with other stand alone businesses in the parking lot. There is a Kohls, a Ross, Kirklands, Electronic Express, Walgreens, OCharlies, Buffalo Wild Wings, Olive Garden, Chick fil a, and a 24 hour Kroger, just to name a few. There is no way to tell which cars are Target Cars.

I believe you. I cant post the maps link on my phone, but the ones I go to are in Spring Hill, TN and Smyrna, TN. Both are part of a shopping/entertainment complex...

It is actually very very clear to the employees which parking lot is theirs. It is often branded. There are distinct boundaries that all employees know. You are required to check the cars in your area before leaving. It may not appear easy to the average person to tell which part of the lot belongs to which store. Uh, yes? No kidding. My immediate? I talk to my kids every day. When DH works he calls every day. We talk to SS every day. If they miss a day I figure they're busy. If they miss two days I'm calling.

Something feels strange about this.

The husband did call her cell phone, when he got home and the wife and kids were missing. It rang in the next room.

Either, she forgot it. Or, she left it home, on purpose.

I think maybe she had some kind of problem, and no one caught on to it.

But, that's just my guess.

I'm thankful that this didn't happen 2 or 3 weeks from now. Those poor children would have cooked, in the hot car. cry

The medical examiner should have a "cause of death", early this week.

(This is a big news story in DFW. If I hear anything, I'll let you know. I'm sure Tang will keep her eye on it, too.)

Yes, benadryl or assorted cold medicines. Nyquil is 10% alcohol. It would be pretty hard to OD on those. I mean, it can be done. People have killed themselves with Tylenol. Just seems odd she would attempt a suicide where she would likely be found in a very public, busy lot with kids in the car. But, stranger things have happened.

I just can't believe if an alert was put out on a missing woman and 3 kids that no one would find the car for 3 days. I mean, I believe it b/c it happened, but what the hell kind of police do they have. I mean - the car there OVERNIGHT should have been noticeable to patrolling police, especially if they were looking for it as they should have been.

I would think the spouse would have SOME idea of where she usually shops. I mean, couldn't have just gotten online and looked at her credit card activity? Most people use credit nowadays. But, even if she used cash, i am sure my husband would have some idea to check places like Walmart, Sears, JCP's , the local grocery store, etc where i usually shop.

So many questions.

First of all--how did it take from Monday thru Thursday to find the car? That seems like an absurd amount of time if people are actively looking for the vehicle. It's not like it was parked on some out of they way lane.

Second--it will be interesting to find out how she died. Maybe it was natural causes. Even young people can die from heart attacks, strokes, aneurysms, a blood clot, complications from diabetes or something. It happens.

If she did try to off herself, it's a shame she didn't drop the kids off somewhere--or at least leave them at home.

The baby was in critical condition, last I heard, Czech.

Dehydrated, a bad rash, from sitting in it's own waste for so long.

I think all the children will live.

They need some time to heal.
