Medical Billing Lottery! !!!!

So, last week, I received a bill from the surgery center for my foot surgery in February.  It was $2115.04. TODAY i got a letter from the billing office saying that if I paid in full by May 15th, they would deduct 40% for a total of $1269.02. Its not delinquent,  and I was going to pay it this week. Im glad I didn't yet!!!!!!!

Is this normal? I feel like I won the lottery!!!!

Awesome!  Yep, totally normal. Usually they offer a certain discount if you put down Xx dollars prior to surgery.

Awesome savings, but why was it necessary? Didn't Obamacare take care of all your medical needs?

Our hospital offers a discount to those who can pay it off quickly.

Which reminds me, I need to settle a bill with mine.

I was an inpatient for 10 days, which I understand is being paid for by Medicare,

Then I had an "outpatient" 23 hour stay procedure, to be paid for by my employer's coverage,

then in-patient for the most recent (and last, I think) operation, again covered by Medicare.

I'm sure I be seeing bills at some point. I think my employer's plan has a donut hole, maybe $3,500, which I will have to pay.

Hey, I'M ALIVE !!!!!!

and I'm not broke!

But if the hospital does bill me for the donut hole amount, now that I've read this, I will ask them if I can get a discount for paying immediately.

Thank you for the idea !

Our hospital offers a discount if you pay in full right away. They will even figure what the anticipate your cost being before the procedure and offer you a discount if you pay prior to it happening.

The discount is worth it to them to make sure they get paid. Especially in my area, a lot of medical bills go unpaid.
