So, DH and I are watching the latest incarnation of Nikita. The bad woman they put in charge has had a bad day and been deposed. We both commented how she was better as a minor character rather than the big bad in the show. So that started a discussion of how the entertainment industry has a truly hard time writing women as the bad "guy". I mean, they are invariably undone by love or some such thing and they just get annoying with it.
So, we're trying to find the ultimate female antagonist in entertainment. We all have the bad guys we love - like Loki, Crowley, Lex Luther, Alan Rickman in just about anything (RIP).
But who are the good female baddies?

Now there are a couple of really, really evil ones that no one will love, and both coincidentally from Harry Potter. Delores Umbridge has to be the most evil character ever written. And Bellatrix Lestrange is pretty close - but at least she has the excuse of being mad. Neither are even a tiny bit likeable, though and you don't root for them.

I can't come up with a single movie or TV series that I've ever liked that had a strong female antagonist. I can think of strong female protagonists, but no antagonists.
I wonder if it's because there weren't any, or have I just forgotten them over time?
I agree with you about the male antagonists though. Every antagonist that Rickman has ever done, every Sheriff of Nottingham no matter who played it, Loki, Lex Luthor, the various incarnations of The Joker, etc. All greats.
The most memorable that I can come up with is the Wicked Witch from "The Wizard of Oz", and she wasn't even really very good at being bad.
Mary Sibley and now Countess Palatine Ingrid Von Marburg.
But then again, Lucy Lawless has always been my girl crush.
Roweena on Supernatural is conniving.

I love to hate her.
She is motivated by greed mostly, but there seems to be this twisted, misunderstood something about her.
When she's good she's good. But when she's bad she's better.
Of course she is crazy.
