Was just sentenced to two years in jail.  It was on TV.  Don't have a link yet.  I'm sure by tonight there will be plenty of links.

180 days for each person. There were four people so that's basically two years.

Judge orders 'affluenza' Texan to spend about two years in jail 2 / 17

Ethan Couch is seen in a Feb. 5, 2016 booking photo released by the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department in Ft Worth, Texas.© Tarrant County Sheriff's Department Handout Ethan Couch is seen in a Feb. 5, 2016 booking photo released by the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department in Ft Worth, Texas.

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 13 (Reuters) - A Texas county judge sentenced the so-called "affluenza" teen on Wednesday to serve four consecutive 180-day terms in jail for violating a juvenile probation deal that kept him out of prison after he killed four people while driving drunk in 2013.

Ethan Couch, 19, has been in a Tarrant County jail since January. In his first appearance in adult court, he was given the sentence of almost two years in jail by Judge Wayne Salvant. "You are not getting out of jail today," Salvant told Couch, who was wearing a red jumpsuit from the Tarrant County Jail.

At his trial in juvenile court in 2013 when he was 16, a psychologist testifying on his behalf said Couch was so spoiled by his wealthy parents that he could not tell right from wrong. The psychologist described the affliction as "affluenza," a term that quickly became a media buzzword.

He was sentenced to 10 years of probation, a penalty that sparked outrage from critics who ridiculed the affluenza defense and said his family's wealth helped the teen stay out of jail.

Couch was taken into custody in Texas after he fled to Mexico in December with his mother, apparently to avoid arrest for violating the drink- and drug-free terms of the probation deal after video on social media appeared to show him at a party where alcohol was being consumed.

Taxpayers paid more than $150,000 of the $200,000 bill for the year-long rehabilitation imposed as part of the sentence because his parents could not afford to pay for all of the treatment, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said, citing court documents.

Judge Salvant is also presiding over the case of his mother, Tonya Couch.

She is charged with helping her son flee to Mexico. She was released on bail but is under home confinement awaiting trial.

If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison.

Wait - his defense was that he was spoiled by his wealthy parents but they couldn't afford to to pay for his rehab treatment?

LOL, sounds like his parents are entitled as well. Good gosh, sell a house and pay for your messed up kids treatment.

But, yes, IMHO, he should serve more time. But, he won't.

Momma needs to sit in prison for several years, but probably won't.

Why wasn't he tried as an adult?

I can't remember the details.

When it first happened I thought that was one of the reasons why they let him do that treatment center, since treatment would help more than jail and his parents were footing the bill. It's not really fair if taxpayers paid the bill.

I bet his parents are divorcing and so the asset split has to be considered.  Given the Mother is facing her own legal battle the court may be letting the father off with little financial responsibility.  Just a guess. Or they were not as rich as first described in the media.  200K for rehab seems way out of line.

I believe his parents were divorced before this happened. My brother's best friend was one of the people killed. The business that his dad owns is right across the street from a friends parents house. I think his dad had remarried but I could be wrong. Pretty sure but not a hundred percent.

So perhaps the court did the father a favor since he had no control?  If so, i like that judge.

Like I said I'm not sure but both parents were well off.  He got a new truck every year.  I didn't know him personally but this happened where I used to live.  Apparently both parents would cave into any of his wants or demands.  I only know what I know because, like I said, my brothers best friend was one of the people that killed.

It's the absolute most he could have been given.  The problem is the with the first judge who let him off so easily.  You can't go back and retry him just because he's a dbag.  The most they can do is revoke his probation and make him serve his ORIGINAL sentence which was only two years.  He is a dbag to the max.  No remorse.  I'm not going to pretend I'm close to my brother but I do know, and had spent time with, his best friend.  They had three very small girls.  One was an infant.  His wife adored him.  They were  a very loving and happy couple.  Those girls father was taken by this douche.  And the friend that was with him in the truck was left with permanent injuries too.  So many needless deaths.

I hope she does get the 10 years.  As bad as he is, he committed this crime as a minor and the judge is stuck with the original sentence.  The mom, however, contributed to this mess with her bad parenting, and took her son out of the country to escape justice.  She is the adult, she should have been the one to teach him right from wrong, and instead she taught him to compound wrong.

ITA 100%.  She deserves to sit in jail too.  She was a huge part of it and still is.  SHE needs to be taught a lesson.

Yes, they divorced a long time ago, and both contributed to this kid's behavior and attitude. Although I have only heard about the mom helping him flee after violating probation, I don't know if dad was involved with that decision or not.

The dad was not involved in helping him flee.  At least I haven't heard anything at all to that effect and I hear a lot about this case.  The father was just as guilty though.  He spoiled that kid so badly.

By spoiling the kid so badly, they actually ruined his life. The kid will always be messed up, but at least he is alive. His life will be meaningless.

I feel bad for the families that he destroyed.

I wish they could lock him up and throw away the key. Unfortunately though, I understand that they are stuck with the original punishment imposed by the original judge. It sucks that he had such a lenient judge that bought into this "Affluenza" idea. Even the rich know killing is wrong. There's nothing "affluent" related to being a psychopath as this douche-bag is.

This brat has ruined so many lives.  What's even more sad is I don't think he even cares.

That's what proves that he's a psychopath. His lack of caring or even knowledge about the wrongness of what he's done.

He killed my brother's best friend. It really shook up the whole community. His wife was left with three little girls. Probably only the oldest will ever really remember him.

I've seen commercials for that!  They swim in the ocean and have horseback riding therapy.  They have masseuses.  Acupuncturists.  Gourmet chefs.  Gym trainers.  Hot tubs.  Steam rooms.  Spas.  Hair dressers.  You name it.  It's not really like rehab.  More like a high price hotel.
