Kelly Ripa may still be furious about being blindsided by the news that her Live With Kelly and Michael co-host Michael Strahan is quitting the show and heading off to Good Morning America come September, but her decision to skip work in response to being kept in the dark about the move is angering the staff at the show.
Multiple sources close to the show tell DailyMail.com that the staff feel they too have been 'blindsided' by a boss who made the decision to just stop showing up for her job.
'They feel like Michael’s taking the high road but Kelly’s the one who blindsided them by not showing up for work,' says one source.
'The feeling is that how she’s acting is deeply selfish.'
The source went on to say; 'Staff are upset that she’s not there. They are pulling a double shift today while she’s left them in the lurch after her tantrum.'
The program tapes the live show and a second show to air on Friday morning each Thursday.
Filling in for Ripa, 41, for both tapings was another popular ABC personality - Dancing With the Stars host Erin Andrews.
Ripa meanwhile was spotted for the first time since getting the bad news earlier this week on Thursday morning, emerging from her townhouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side with a large smile plastered on her face.

Ripa also brought along a copy of Malcolm Gladwell's book David and Goliath when she left the house on Thursday, which examines the probability of improbable events.
The book draws its title from the biblical battle in which David manages to slay the giant Goliath despite being much smaller and weaker than his powerful adversary. David then goes on to become the king of Israel.
The subhead on the cover reads; 'Underdogs, misfits and the art of battling giants.'
Ripa stayed holed up in her $27million townhouse on Wednesday after calling out of work in the wake of Strahan's big announcement, and ABC confirmed that she would not be appearing on the program at all this week.
Andrews, 37, had no trouble filling in for Ripa Thursday, and proved once again to have a natural chemistry with Strahan, 44, during the hour.
The two chatted about Queen Elizabeth's upcoming birthday, the best birthday presents to get for friends, the film Mean Girls and Andrews' gal pal Chrissy Teigen, who recently became a mother.
Not discussed by Andrews and Strahan during the show was Ripa.
Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell will be in for Ripa on Monday.

Strahan also stopped by Good Morning America Thursday in his first appearance since it was revealed he would be joining the team full-time later this year.
He has been appearing on the show two days a week for the past two years.
The former football star was congratulated on his new gig by GMA hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos during the show, while Lara Spencer stayed silent and smiled and clapped as Roberts gushed about how excited she was to have Strahan joining the team in a much larger capacity.
Strahan thanked the group and then asked the the three if they had any tips to help him prepare for waking up in the pre-dawn hours every day of the week for work.
'Just get over it, you're going to be tired,' said Spencer.
'Just own it, love it. It's part of life.'
Strahan laughed as he said he would prepare to 'embrace' being tired all the time.
He then told the group; 'It's like my second family here.'
From there he once again took some time to thank his co-host, much like he did on Live With Kelly and Michael Wednesday morning, saying; 'And I am going to miss my family at Live, and I am going to miss sitting next to Kelly every day and having a lot of fun on the show.'
Strahan added that he was incredibly grateful to Ripa and Live producer Michael Gellman for 'boosting' him up and preparing him for his new role at the network.
Multiple sources told DailyMail.com that Ripa was blindsided by the decision to move Strahan off Live, adding that the company thinks the success of Good Morning America is more important than Live, and had grown concerned as GMA has become increasingly threatened by NBC's Today in recent months.
ABC's parent company, Disney, is also facing internal turmoil over who will succeed Bob Iger at the helm of the entertainment giant.
A source close to Ripa said: 'Kelly isn't making any demands. She is very hurt that Disney hasn't even spoken to her yet so they are assuming that she isn't coming back.'
The source added: 'She wants to wait and see what happens. She'd also like someone to do the right thing and speak to her face to face rather than plot and plan behind her back.'
The New York Times on Thursday revealed what happened when Strahan broke the news to Ripa, producer Michael Gellman and WABC general manager Dave Davis earlier this week.
The group was informed of the meeting at the last second on Tuesday and waited 20 minutes for Strahan to arrive.
Ripa said to Davis after Strahan told them he would be leaving; 'Didn’t I tell you this was going to happen? I told you two years ago this was going to happen.'
She then informed executives that she would not be at work on Wednesday.
Making matters worse, the star, executive producer and manager of the show were told just minutes before the first reports emerged online about Strahan's GMA move.
Saturday Night Live alum Ana Gasteyer filled in for Ripa on Wednesday sitting beside Strahan while he talked about his decision to leave and confirmed he would be making the move in September.
'It is the same channel. I am not going anywhere,' said Strahan.
'I was reading some stuff and it was like I had died. It's not a eulogy people.'
He then thanked the viewers and members of the live studio audience who have watched him on the show for the past four years as well as the staff of the show.
Strahan made no mention of Ripa in his remarks, but later spoke about his co-host at the end of the program.
'I really want to thank, of course, Kelly Ripa,' said Strahan.
'Kelly welcomed me here and I've learned so much from her and she's just been an amazing influence on me and this has truly changed my life to be here with her.
'And I know that the show will continue to be strong and great because of Kelly and Michael Gellman and the staff here because everybody here is so talented. This show has not been around for over 30 years by mistake.'
He closed by saying: 'Kelly, I thank you. I love you ... and I'm not going to cry on TV mama, I promise you.'
An executive at ABC told DailyMail.com that after the show Strahan spent time with the entire crew so he could thank them for all they have done for him and his career during the four years he has been on the show.
A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
"A source close to Ripa said: 'Kelly isn't making any demands. She is very hurt that Disney hasn't even spoken to her yet so they are assuming that she isn't coming back.'
The source added: 'She wants to wait and see what happens. She'd also like someone to do the right thing and speak to her face to face rather than plot and plan behind her back.'"

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Sounds like she's thinking about it. Or MAYBE, she's taking a cooling off period so she doesn't say something she'll regret.
OK, well that is a smart on her part. Regardless, most people aren't going to sympathize with the drama of rich celebs. Call him up personally and talk to him or tell him off or whatever. Then put on your TV smile and go to work. And, look at this as an opportunity to get a new host and freshen up the show.
Much has been written about various late-night talk show wars over the years, but morning-show battles can be just as vicious. Case in point: The current blow-up over “Live With Kelly and Michael.”
Apparently, when Regis Philbin decided to retire a few years ago, that news was also sprung on Ripa out of the blue. After he left, the show went through an extensive try-out period in which Ripa had to work with a huge array of potential co-hosts of varying talent levels. When Strahan was finally hired four years ago, she helped get him up to speed and worked hard to turn their partnership into a successful franchise.
None of this rated the courtesy of a heads up?
I’m just trying to get this straight: The host of a popular TV program was blindsided by the departure of her co-host, who had secretly gotten a better job. Management knew about his new job, but she did not. She was told at the last minute. And no one in management thought this situation would blow up?
What I really want to know is, who thought it would be a good idea to ask Ripa to co-host with Strahan for months after the announcement — until he leaves for “GMA” in September, no less? Who thought she’d be up for that? It’s not difficult to understand why she was a no-show at “Live” today and yesterday (and for the next few days, she’ll be taking what ABC is calling previously scheduled time off).
I’m just trying to figure how that pitch to Ripa would have gone: “Sure, Michael is leaving and we knew that and you didn’t, and you’ll have to help us search for and train his replacement, and we didn’t tell you any of this in advance — but won’t it be fun to continue to work with him?”
There are times I don’t understand what goes on in the minds of TV executives. This is one of those times.
I’ve seen a bunch of chatter on social media about how Ripa earns a tidy sum from appearing on “Live.” Well, of course. We are talking about a bunch of very well-compensated people here. This is not about money, it’s about respect, and how that respect is conveyed, publicly and privately.
It’s about a woman who has been disrespected by different management regimes — and expected to sit by and say nothing about it.
I’ve watched “Live” a lot over the years, as it happens. While Ripa was trying out various guest hosts, I was enduring physical therapy after knee surgery, and I saw it almost every day during that period. Lately, the show’s air time coincides with my gym time. In many ways, I am the show’s target audience.
All in all, I liked the Strahan and Ripa pairing a lot — they often brought out the best in each other, and their warm, goofy irreverence could be enjoyable to watch. But Ripa’s unflagging energy and subtle ability to course-correct have often carried that show, both when Strahan was new on the job and when various other co-hosts have rotated through.
Ripa was the star of that show, but as Nicole Beharie and Stana Katic have found, that status doesn’t mean you’re exempt from the kind of oblivious treatment that can stray into what can look like contempt. No doubt many things were going on behind the scenes at “Live,” “Sleepy Hollow” and “Castle” — there always are.
But those of us in the peanut gallery can say what all of this looks like from the outside, and it just doesn’t look good. If nothing else, TV networks need to care about appearances, and it sure doesn’t look like these networks valued the appeal of these women or their on-screen personas, nor do many of their fans feel that their devotion to those shows is being held in high regard just now.
(It’s worth noting that two of the most high-profile TV controversies of the past few weeks — the exit of Katic and the “Live” brouhaha — have taken place at ABC. If nothing else, it’ll be interesting to see how Disney/ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood navigates these crises, which are taking place just before upfronts.)
But the spring trend toward casual dismissal and disposal is part of something even bigger: The way Hollywood treats women in general, even those who’ve managed to create solid resumes through grit, skill and endurance. When the Sony hacking scandal revealed that A-list actresses were making less than male co-stars with less drawing power, that was another battle over respect, not money. Of course the money matters: Equal pay for equal work is a concept enshrined in law in America, if in not practice at many places of employment.
But what also matters is how employees are treated — what status they are given, how they are made to feel valued, and how that value and respect is communicated to the world outside the organization in question.
At the moment, it’s not easy to make the argument that Ripa should feel valued as a longtime employee of ABC. Would you?

And apparently, they just gave him the job they had promised to Lara Spencer. Seems ABC's political correctness doesn't extend to respecting their female personalities.

Hollywood talks a good game but they won't clean up their own house.
As the lynchpin of the show, yes, they should have talked to her. I really don't know why they wouldn't. Maybe they are planning to replace her too, who knows?
But, in reality the rest of us deal with this everyday. People come and people go. That's life. It always amazes me how hysterical some people get at work when someone leaves.

Replace Kelly Ripa? America's sweetheart? That would be stupid. People love her.

I didn't say they should or they shouldn't. i dont' watch the show. I just said who knows? Maybe that is why they aren't telling her things.
Yes but aren't you making the point that they don't value her by keeping her on the outs? Obviously, that didn't bother them to offend her.
It's not the first time, either. They did the same thing when Regis decided to retire. But, they are giving her approval rights of her new star. They are just stupid.

And BTW - I think she actually did have a pre-planned trip. It's her 20th wedding anniversary, her and her husband left for Turks and Caicos. She just called off a couple days early.

I absolutely think that if she were a man she would have been given the courtesy of advanced notice. They would have treated this situation very differently. Corporate douchebags expect women to just sit back and take whatever comes their way without making waves. But they treat men entirely differently - men are treated as fellow professionals who deserve respect.

Maybe she will leave?
I don't think she can afford to leave.
I read that she makes 15 million a year.
And, that she and her husband spend every penny of it.

Yep. You just sit there and smile pretty for the cameras, Kelly.

Well, manage your money well. She's a millionaire. I manage my money well. I always want to reserve my option to walk away. If she didn't bank enough, then she's a fool.
LL, you DO know where she got her start don't you??????? Her AND her husband????
Yep! Loved both of them on AMC. It was so sweet they fell in love and eloped for real! And they have been married 20 years and are STILL adorable together! No Hollywood scandals of cheating, and still happy together. It's wonderful!

Seriously. She's a petite 5'2" girl who exercises and is healthy. Geesh. And she's NICE.
But, yeah - let's just hate on her because she's skinny and rich.
This is me, except I don't exercise much and I'm not healthy. lol! I am really nice however... and I'm pretty active. I really hate the "skinny" judgement. I don't know why people think it's ok.

I get it. I was the skinny girl among my friends for a long time. I had one that used to remark about my chicken legs all the time and how twiggy they were and that I needed to eat more and put meat on my bones. One day I snapped and said something along the lines of her just being jealous she couldn't fit in my pants. Boy, was she pissed!

Yeah. I don't get it. "Guys like curvy woman." Comparisons to 14 year old boys. Gaga's "skin covered skeleton" comment... she's not pretty. You look like an Ethiopian. I've heard it all. Thanks for the insults people. You really think thin people don't have body image issues when you/society contributes to them?? lol. It's really shallow and mean. ugh.
And I don't get tearing someone down just because she's a famous, skinny, rich celebrity. She deserves the same professional respect as anyone else in her chosen field. He was her co-host, one that she helped choose, BTW, and then they don't bother to tell her they are moving him to another show?
Let's say you worked for a company and had an assistant that you selected and trained, and after 4 years of working together, they decided to take your assistant and assign that person to someone else, and don't bother to tell you. You find out at the same time they announce it to the rest of the company. And now you have to help find and train a new assistant. Don't even TRY to tell me you wouldn't be pissed off at the total lack of consideration and respect.

I totally agree with you on this subject. I get why she is p!ssed. There's also rumors going around that GMA reached out to her previously for a new position with them offering her much more money and she declined because she loves her job. Then they went behind her back with Strahan. I don't know if that's true, but either way I would be livid. I don't blame her one bit for being upset.
And if she were a man they would have bent over backward to accommodate her. People say sexism doesn't exist, that there is nothing left to fight for. Well maybe not in the world you live in, but in the world of business it's still alive and kicking.

Um because I am. And really what's it to you? I'm entitled to respond to whatever posts I choose. I am relaxed, but thanks for the concern.
They totally disrespected her. I wonder if they wanted to go for a shock value on air. Either way it was a shytty move both by the management & Strahan himself. He owed her better. From what I understand she really pushed to get him the co-anchor job 4 years ago.
You know, why are women so catty to each other?? Why did her looks even come up? Her looks had nothing to do with the subject being discussed whatsoever.
Why can't someone talk about her looks. That's what we do here. I don't care about who responds to what or how . But I am also allowed to respond too. It's all good. I'm sure you are all gorgeous. I think Kelly is cute but I did think she was prettier a few years ago. She looked softer if that makes sense . I can understand her being upset but she should still go to work .

Because "a skeleton with skin" is mean, and I don't agree with the assessment. We're not allowed to disagree and question the mean spiritedness of the comment?
Having the ability to have opinions goes both ways, and applies to the comments made as well.
And people call off work for all sorts of reasons all the time.

Don't hate me because I'm thin and beautiful. And rich.
Seriously, I get that she feels hurt. I worked with a woman 8 years. We were teammates. Co-workers who supported each other. Nominated each other for awards. Went to lunch together. She didn't return after December 31st. Retired. The only one who knew was her Admin Officer. None of her teammates knew. Her own supervisor wasn't told.
It's hurtful to learn that someone you cared about and even considered a "friend" didn't feel the same.
