I'm not sure I ever told this story...I probably have, but this reminds me of it. When MIL was dying, we took the boys to the hospital to see her. I had never been to this hospital before, and neither had the boys. We got out of the car and walked up and #1 stopped. He looked up, and said, "oh, I've been here before. When I was invisible. They took me here to show me who my daddy was going to be." I asked when this was, and he said it was when Daddy was born." I looked at DH and he confirmed that he was born at that hospital.
Children have a better understanding than we think.
They have more faith than we do.
The dilemma of the LW is their own inner struggle. They know there is more after death. They are having to face the reality of their lack of faith.
They know no such thing.
Don't presume to know what's going on in an atheist's head and their "inner struggle".
It's like me claiming that Christians have an inner struggle because they don't really believe in heaven, but hoping there is.
This is your first response? No advice for your fellow atheist?
How utterly rich and telling.
Right...because the LW is reading this thread.
Who cares?
Enlighten us with your wisdom.

I find it telling the first thing an atheist does is attack another's faith instead of addressing the OP.

I already did.
No. You havent.

Hey little Johnny, we're going to plant this tree over gramps and you can watch it grow as his body feeds it.
That's what we did with our dog. I know this is not the PC thing to say, but we don't pretend animals go to heaven like humans.
Humans ARE animals.
Animals with bigger brains, but animals nonetheless.
But humans have souls. At least some of us do...
Prove it.
Hey, if you don't think you have a soul, I won't belabor your assertion. You think your ancestors are pond scum, too, so yeah...they go hand in hand...

I believe in God's grace and we will all find out some day. Just because you don't believe in God,doesn't mean he doesn't believe in you. I hope so at least. For all of you non believers.

My son's soul was here long before I was.
Jesse was about two when he first told someone I flushed a baby down the toilet.
I had lost a baby days after a positive pregnancy test.
That was 4 years before Jesse was born.

Understood. You can't prove there's any such thing as a soul.

Just like you can't prove love. Or hate. I know I have a soul. It's the core of my very being.
Prove love. Not actions, actions mean nothing. Prove love...

You attacked first, with your nonsense about an atheist's "inner struggles".
You have reading comprehension problems.

DS is 2 and has only experienced one death in his life. His great-grandpa died when he was 6 months old. We have a pic of him and his great-grandparents on the bookshelf in our room. He will point to his great-grandpa when he sees the pic and say 'abba!' (grandpa). Sometimes, he'll ask 'where abba?' and we'll tell him grandpa's in Heaven. Sometimes, he will point up and we'll affirm that's where he is.
But he could also be pointing at the sky.
flan
Which confirms he understands Heaven is up there ...
You, however, are talking about an ontological reality...the incorporal, immaterial and immortal part of humanity.
There's no evidence that such a thing exists.
You can believe it, and teach your kids about it,
I will not.
You're talking about emotions. Emotions are real. A soul is not an emotion.
Prove it.
I don`t like you. There.
So you can't. Gotcha!
Of course I can. I don't like you is a real emotion. I really don't like you. Can't you tell?
Now prove to me that there's such a thing as souls. Any kind of proof will do.
People that actually HAVE souls feel them. They know that they are real. No amount of proof I provide would convince of you that since you do not have one to experience.
There are people that have never felt love. So to them, love cannot be explained or proven. It's a total mystery to them. Just because you can't experience something doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

So, Weltz, how would you explain death to a 2 year old?

So, you've got nothing.
Not anything that would prove it to a soulless person...Just like you can't prove love. So we are equal...

You "feel" your soul...Okay, then...
That settles the matter.
flan
Yes, people with souls feel them. I know you can't comprehend that...but it's true...

Look, I don't care what kind of superstition you teach your children.
You can teach them that we'll all hitch a ride on a comet to the mothership, for all I care.
I refuse to.
