Sunshine and warm today! Yay! After 10 days of dreariness, the sun is a wonderful sight.

DGS mowed the lawn last evening for the second time. Wow, did it need to be mowed!

I still haven't found a pattern I want to make yet. Hmm...

Hope you all have a great Tuesday, wet or dry. :)

Cloudy today. Draining the pool after last night's storm. Golf ball sized hail and thunderstorms. 1.25 inches. Ugh. More coming.

You got hail?  We just got lots of thunder & torrential rain.  But it is hail season.

We got a ton of hail. Pretty good sized. Two different storms brought it. Not as bad as what we got 6 years ago, but still impressive.

I feel lucky now. It must have missed our area. Otherwise my phone would be ringing off the hook with hail damage claims.

Yeah. We were saying the roofers were rubbing their hands together while the insurance agents were pulling their hair out.

After a really big hail storm about 10 or so years ago there were some really shifty out of town roofing companies that came to the area.  They would just show up at people's homes & lay out their supplies & tell them the insurance company sent them.  It was nuts.

I remember that.  We contacted our insurance company right away, and they sent a guy over to evaluate, etc.  Half the roof was damaged and siding on two sides of the house.  They discontinued the siding we had, so we got the full house done.  We paid extra to have the entire roof done at the same time, and a little extra to upgrade our siding to Hardy board.  We went with a company the insurance company knew, and got it done first in the neighborhood.  But I do remember the gypsies coming in later and trying to find work but most of the neighbors had already jumped on it.

Prince William on the Western side.  The Eastern side - Woodbridge area seems to have been hit.  At least that is where most of our calls are coming from.  One client in Oakton also got damage.

You all must be in the D.C. metro area. I heard that area got hit hard with hail on the news last night.

FNW, glad you do not have hail damage.

Lexxy, sorry you are stuck with handling claims.

Sounds like we dodged a bullet here.

It rained and the lightening was dangerous but it passed quickly.

Lexxy, storms mean job security. Right?

Thanks but so far none of my commercial clients have called in (knocking on wood).  It is my poor coworker who handles homeowners.   And yes we are in Northern VA in the metro area.

Just had one.  They only got paid half.  If I had a dollar for every time I explain homeowners insurance is not a home maintenance policy I'd be a millionaire!

Really?  We had very minimal hail damage and our insurance paid for a new roof.  $13,000.  Minus our $1,000 deductible...

Spell check allows roofs but keeps changing rooves to roves so I'm going with roofs.

If we get hail damage, our will replace our roof. Half of our subdivision has already had it done. The houses were done with Atlas Chalet shingles - which are discontinued and can't be patched with anything else so the whole roof has to be done when there is any damage at all. Ours has no damage, yet.

There is actually a specific set of criteria for how they decide on a partial or full replacement here.  There has to be X amount of damage spread over X amount of the surface.  I'm not an adjuster so I don't know the exact measurement.

Major crackdown with the faux roofing companies and people going up there and damaging them.  Her roof was 20 years old.  And to be honest?  I wonder if it was replaced.

I hate people sometimes...

Our insurance company made SURE we replaced the roof.  The check from the insurance company was made out to us, the roofing company, AND our bank.  And then the insurance company had to send documentation to the bank that the work was complete and satisfactory...
