A 19-year-old high school student is facing a lifetime on the sex offender registry for an immature joke.

Red Mountain High School senior Hunter Osborn was arrested on Saturday for exposing himself in the varsity football team's official school picture.

The picture was used in the football program - which was sold to parents and students during football games this past school year - and in the yearbook, which was recently distributed at school to 3,400 students.

The photo went unnoticed by school officials for months, but when they recently caught wind of the act, they reported the photo to police.

Osborn allegedly exposed his penis through the top of his uniform's waistband.

Osborn is now facing 69 counts of indecent exposure, a class 1 misdemeanor, and one count of furnishing harmful items to minors, a class 4 felony.

The 69 counts stem from the number of people who were in the photo with Osborn. That number may rise or fall depending on if the adults in the picture choose not to press charges and if others who saw the photo ask to press charges.

He was booked on the charges on Saturday and then released on his own recognizance, while being ordered to wear an electronic monitor.

Osborn, who was 18 when the photo was taken, told police that he did it on a dare from a friend and that he is 'disgusted' with himself for what he did.

Following Osborn's arrest, the school district released a statement saying they were 'dismayed' by his actions and that the yearbook would be recalled to make a 'minor, but critical edit'.

Many students at the school think the situation is being blown of proportion and already a petition has been started online in support of Osborn called 'Free Hunter Osborn'.
'He made a dumb mistake a little bit, but I don't think he should be charged so heavily for that,' fellow senior Zach Anthony told KPHO.
'At first, it was kind of like a joke, but then once we found out the consequences he has to face for this, we all feel really bad for him, and we don't think it's very fair,' Brooke Bodrero told Fox 10 Phoenix.

FULL STATEMENT FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT
The district is dismayed by the actions of the students involved in the photograph. Their behavior does not reflect the values of Red Mountain High School or Mesa Public Schools.
Upon learning of the photograph, school administration immediately contacted police and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Disciplinary action will follow policy and may be based on the outcome of the police investigation.
The school and district are conducting an investigation to determine what actions might have prevented the publication of the photograph, so appropriate safeguards can be put in place going forward.
While the small size of the photograph as published makes the details difficult to discern, the yearbook has been recalled so the school can make a minor but critical edit for the inappropriate content.

I can't see anything.

I don't if I think he should be charged with anything either.

Looks like pictures should be more closely inspected.

It was a stupid thing to do. But, calling the Police? He probably never thought the photo would go past the yearbook desk.

Prior to getting on the School Board, our school used to call the Police for every stupid teen boy infraction. Some kids rode a skateboard through the halls at football game and they called the police. Things like that. And, then these teen boys get to start out life with a police record. I mean, yes, there are absolutely times to involve the Police. But adminstrators are hired to be able handle discipline issues, most of which should not involve calling the Police.

Charging him with a sex crime is just ridiculous. I can't believe the police agreed to arrest him. No common sense anymore.
