An annual father-daughter dance at a South Carolina elementary school was canceled after some parents complained the event wasn't inclusive. 

Brockman Elementary School, a public school in Columbia, abandoned plans for the May 13 dance after fewer than 10 parents protested, Fox 10 reported.  

The grumbling parents thought the event was too exclusive - even though the flyer explicitly said all were invited, said school district spokesperson Karen York.

'There were a few parents that did not think the father-daughter dance was inclusive, when actually at all times it was never an event that was exclusive to only fathers and daughters,' York said.

'Mothers and anyone else who wanted to show up at the dance were certainly welcome to attend.'

The dance was supposed to raise funds for the school's parent-teacher organization. This year's event had already raised $1,000, but that money will be refunded after the cancellation, according to Fox 10. 

In the last five years, the annual event has raised over $2,000. 

Plans are underway to arrange another dance on May 13, under the neutral name Brockman Ball, Fox 10 reported.

This is my niece and nephew's school. Not sure what my sister in law thought about it. Earlier in the year, they had a family dance. Parents and children dressed up, got pics taken, the whole deal. I am not sure why they are having another dance so soon after that one. Seems odd.

After games, to raise money, because they just want to.

Liberals define equality and fairness as everyone getting everything exactly the same. Everyone has to have equal playing time. Everyone has to get a trophy. NO you can't recognize someone who excels at anything. I am waiting until they remove grades from school to just "time served" kind of thing. But, they have pushed so hard for grade inflation that they basically have accomplished the same thing.

 Yes. I don't appreciate it when some people here continually say "liberals want this" or "liberals believe that". Some do. Some don't. Generalizing all people with some liberal ideas is as dangerous as generalizing all people with republican beliefs. If I said "Christians are judgmental idiots" based on the experiences I had with a few, I would be wrong. And it's wrong of you to say "liberals define equality and fairness by everyone getting the same thing". I don't remember a liberal meeting where all cars carrying liberals had to show up and decide what we believed! Some do believe that for sure. But some don't. Why is that so difficult to understand ?!

And the craziest, most ridiculous, everyone one gets a trophy type places I ever lived was the most conservative place I ever lived. And the people fussing about some kids not being left out, and not highlighting the top performers so some kids didn't feel bad...Catholic Republicans so conservative that they made Rush Limbaugh look like a liberal.

I've lived in ultra conservative areas all my life and the only one's screaming "everyone gets a trophy" are the liberal democrats around here.

Drives me nuts.

 Yes frickin way. Catholic school cancelled field day because someone might not win an event and they would feel bad. They also said that children couldn't bring their teachers gifts for Christmas or at the end of the year because kids who didn't have the money might feel bad.  They were always cancelling things or changing rules to protect someone's feelings. 

I am pretty liberal. Yet I dont think everyone should get a trophy. When my kids got one of those participation trophies, they usually tossed them in the garbage as soon as we got home. I have friends who are liberal and they feel the same. I don't think that sentiment is republican nor democrat, liberal nor conservative. I think it's misguided people - who come in all political sizes and shapes.

Well. I don't take polls at every event and keep spread sheets to know which is conservative or liberal or anything.

What I do know is that the "everyone must be included" crap is doing way more harm than good.

Seriously? 10 people got a whole dance cancelled? Jeepers. *sigh* Why not just change the name to "all inclusive because 10 people complained" dance and have it. Why waste all the time rescheduling it?
