Always love the middle of the week, 'cause the weekend is near. LOL And, for some strange reason, I can get a lot done on Wednesday....

Morning report is going to be interesting. A nurse that was in the department 17 years was fired yesterday. People are not happy.

 Was the firing justified?

Even if it was, that's a lot to process.

Not really. She's been at the hospital 28 years, 17 with our department. Slowing down a little.  They could have transferred her to a less intense position.

I don't understand the stance on older workers some employers have.  Sure everyone slows down, doesn't mean there isn't a lot of value there.  The day to day worker bee tasks maybe can be done quicker by someone younger, but the corporate knowledge and skills are there and should be used to help run the place.

Ageism.  Now there's a REAL issue.  But the media won't bother.

But, to some extent, it's always been that way.

You spent time in Japan, yes? Are the older members of their society treated with respect because of their wisdom & life experiences?

Yes, and then they are cared for by their families when they can't work, anymore.  But what does Japan have to do with here?

And how is "it's always been that way" an excuse?

You don't accept it for anything else.

I was pointing out that other cultures respect what WE should.

Yes, youth has its advantages, but don't dismiss a worker solely because of age.

 I don't "accept" it.

It's merely more difficult to change something that is so entrenched in society.

Does anyone know anymore what the average life expectancy is in the U.S. anymore? Has it gone lowered? It seems like a good number of people are dying earlier, in the last few years.

Actually yes it has gone down for white men. The reason they lowered it was because of the increasing rate of suicide among older white men and also the increasing prescription drug abuse epidemic.

Yes.  The latest generation will have a shorter lifespan.  Basically because of what we eat and lack of physical exercise.

I'll be happy splitting the difference.

The media won't bother because it is not an LGBT issue. Bwahahaha

I've heard we need to cook like our grandmothers did, not our mothers.  But for younger adults, I think they would need to cook like their great grandmothers.

And of course, many people are eating poison with every meal -  GMOs, artificial sweeteners, more and more chemical preservatives.

Scary thing is doctors are recommending it. Dad's doctor told him it's better to use artificial sweeteners over sugar for his diabetes. What is this stevia thing? Comes from plants, but it gives me pause.

Stevia is not as natural as they claim, but probably the best choice b/c it comes from a plant.  But it has to be processed.  You can get it in Organic, though.

Ouch! I slipped on the stairs last year and my whole right thigh was purple for weeks. Then I tripped on the boys' plastic eggs and landed on our smart TV, causing the glass screen to crack. That was weird. Had this spider web-like effect.

Yeah, and it was fairly new, too. I think we paid $800 for it, but the replacement, which is newer, larger, and has more features, was around $400. I told DH he can thank me for being clumsy.

Funny show though

The worst part was driving. It is on my left side. You don't realize how you shift your weight to the left when you are driving. Or at least I didn't until this morning. And for a luxury vehicle I have some damn hard seats!
