I was pondering getting a new grill.  Mine is all rusted out.  In our house, we have a covered, screened porch so i can get a new grill and keep it there and it won't be exposed so much to the elements.  Any recommendations?  I don't need some big honking grill.  Just one to do a few burgers or steaks from time to time.

I'm not a grill expert. Give me a gas grill that does the job and I'm good. I have one with a side burner which is nice if we lose power. Propane taxi delivers and picks up so that problem has been solved.

Well you want to go with a good quality one, not for size, but for the parts so they don't wear out and one that has a good quality rack. Don't get one with the coated type, the coating comes off after awhile and it will be in your food.

Find a good 50 gallon barrel, cut it in half, find an old truck grill and lay it over it.

Or just put some cinder blocks on the ground, lay the grill grates you have over it, and done. Doubles as a fire pit.

We have been semi-seriously looking too. I have been eyeing both CharBroil and Weber, 3 burner with a side burner.

Weber gas grills are good grills.

We just got a green mountain wood pellet one, too. Can't say yet if we like it or not.

Yeah, that doesn't work on a porch.  Heck, I wouldn't even put a charcoal grill in a porch.

I might be the only person on the planet, but I don't like grilled food. It tastes funny to me. Plus it's bad for you. The burnt bits are carcinogens which increase your risk of cancer. In fact, if you consume burnt hamburgers or hot dogs from the grill you have a 60% higher risk of pancreatic cancer. The burnt parts or "grill lines" are toxins that you are eating.

How are they toxins? I didn't open the article, but if one is grilling on a metal grill, as you would in your oven, then where are the toxins from?  I grill with gas, just as my oven is fueled with gas.

We've used everything, wood, charcoal, electric and gas.

I get those marks with all of it.

I gotta say, anything cooked over an open fire is so much better.

Even scrambled eggs!

It's just good.

If you open the article it explains it. It's cooking meat at a high temp that create the toxins. Its especially bad when the fat drips into the coals and creates a flare up. That's extra toxins!!

I love my CharBroil! 3 gas burners, plus a side burner. Its been outside in all kinds of weather for 12 years - not a single problem!

To clean the grates, wad up a 12x12 sheet of aluminum foil, and scrub away on a cool or slightly warm grate.

So how does that differ from quick searing?

And how does a flame cause carcinogens?

Gaga, that is a good looking grill.  Mine is stainless & pretty much looks like that but I really like the color you picked.

I've had a weber "barbeque" for about 10 years, much like the one above. I love it.

Funny how you call it a grill. :)

Because it is a grill.

grill1
ɡril/
noun
1.
a metal framework used for cooking food over an open fire; a gridiron.
verb
1.
cook (something) using a grill.
"grill the trout for about five minutes"

bar·be·cue
ˈbärbəˌkyo͞o/
noun
1.
a meal or gathering at which meat, fish, or other food is cooked out of doors on a rack over an open fire or on a portable grill.
synonyms: cookout, wiener/wienie/weenie roast; BBQ
"a backyard barbecue"
verb
1.
cook (meat, fish, or other food) on a barbecue.
"fish barbecued with herbs"
synonyms: grill, spit-roast, broil, charbroil
"they barbecued some steaks"

They are used interchangeably.

But there is a difference in cooking.

Generally, grilling is done quickly over high heat.

Barbecuing is generally done low and slow.

Charcoal is awesome but i don't really wanna be bothered with that on a daily basis. I have a cheap charcoal grill i can use from time to time. But, i agree, charcoal brings the flavor.

I remember my MIL saying she wanted to have a picnic. I asked where she wanted to go, and she said no where. She meant a meal out on her patio. To me, a picnic is where you pack a basket full of food and go to a park or pretty place and eat outside.
