...without one of these #$@% stories:

MELISSA, Texas — Authorities have arrested a father after his 6-month-old daughter was found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon outside their Melissa home.

According to the Collin County Sheriff's Department, authorities were alerted at about 1:30 p.m. CT that an infant was left alone in a vehicle in the 1400 block of Milrany Lane in Melissa.

Authorities released few details but confirmed the child died and that her father, 33-year-old Michael Thedford, was arrested. Thedford was charged with manslaughter and is being held on a $20,000 bond.

The cause of the child's death is under investigation. Deputies were told the child was left in the car but it hasn't been revealed for how long.

Did he forget to bring the baby inside? Was this his only child?

And more:

According to KidsandCars.org, 16 children have died in hot car related deaths nationwide this year. That's more than double the number of seven at the same time last year.

Tuesday's death was the third this year in Texas, according to the organization. On Thursday, a north Houston boy searching for a toy climbed into a car parked in his family's driveway, became trapped by child locks and died, according to Houston police.

Parents are using this to murder their kids.  No way that many people are forgetting their babies in hot cars.

I agree.  I mean seriously, this was NOT an issue growing up...

True. Then again, we could leave windows open without fear of carjacking or grand theft auto. Growing up, I can remember waiting in the car with the windows down while mom or dad ran in to the market or drug store to pick up something real quick. Not as a baby, of course, but as an older child.

We didn't either. We had seatbelts, but didn't really use them much. And shoulder harnesses in the back seat didn't come around until I was an adult.

And all the windows went all the way down, the seats were usually leather, what wasn't plastic was metal and child safety seats were either mom's lap or her shoulder if she was driving.

The emergency restraint system was an arm.

LOL at the arm.  My mom nailed me in the chest so many times.  It was second nature to hit the brakes & throw out the arm.  Fun memories!

Yes! The old arm restraint. I was relegated to the backseat by my older brother so I didn't get the arm.

And how many times I got burnt on those metal seat belt buckles. Not sure if the seats were leather, but some other faux material that burned my bottom when I got in. Used to keep towels to sit on until they cooled off.

I think most of the '70s cars had vinyl seats. If you were wearing shorts your legs would stick to them. That is until you worked up a good sweat.

What an absolutely horrible way to die. Slowly being cooked to death.
I don't know how a parent can "forget" their child is in the car.

 Yup.

We kept towels on the seats, too.

And how about the lovely imprint on your legs when you got out!

My Mother laughed uproariously the first time I was driving her and had to make an urgent stop. We both had our 3-point seat belts on, but my right arm went out in front of her even before the brake was all the way down! That's when she knew I was TRULY a Mom to my step-kids!

Update on the OP:

According to the warrant issued for Michael Thedford, the Melissa father told investigators that he took his 5-year-old and 3-year-old children to daycare at about 9 a.m. Tuesday. He stated the youngest child — named Fern, according to her grandfather — wasn't going to daycare that day because she had a virus and was running a fever.

When he went home, Thedford said he forgot the baby was in the car and went inside the house to take a nap.

The warrant states that when he woke up around 1 p.m., roughly four hours later, he said he discovered the baby was in the car and ran outside. He found her unresponsive and took her into the house.

Thedford told police he placed his daughter in the refrigerator "for an undetermined length of time prior to calling 911."

The warrant goes on to say Thedford told officers he called his wife and 911 while trying to perform CPR on the child. When deputies arrived, they found the baby dead in the kitchen.

While being interviewed by the Collin County Sheriff's Department, Thedford told deputies he's an unemployed high school teacher. He said his wife of 12 years is a veterinarian in Plano, and she was at work during the incident.

Temperatures in Collin County reached 91 degrees by noon the day the child died.

Child Protective Services is investigating. The two older children are not in CPS custody.

3 year old twin in Louisiana died in a car yesterday. But their mother didn't leave them in there. They were all taking a nap when the twins got up, went outside and got in the car. Then they couldn't get out...

See, this is why I haven't had a nap in 8 years. I just can't. Even though the kids are in school. I just can't nap. I just never know what would happen, and I'm a heavy sleeper.

Right?  Good question.  Maybe so they don't lose their place if there is a waiting list?  Best I can come up with.

Yea, I have friends who are doing this while one of them can't work. As long as you keep paying your spot will be held, so I get using it to run errands or something, but I don't understand why you would want to drop off your kids all day everyday when you could have them home with you.

I'm sorry you couldn't cry That's what I mean though. If (when your kids were small) you were going to be out of work for a few months, you would probably enjoy having them home rather than taking them to daycare.

I took my boys to preschool on one of my work from home days. They needed the social interaction, and had more fun than if they had stayed home, even if I had been available to devote hoards of attention.

Yep. Even if you pay, they have to document how many kids are actually there. Otherwise, they lose their tax exempt status.

No joke.  And our vet actually likes us.  He came in on Easter Sunday because of Carlee and her seizures and didn't charge us anything extra.  Just the normal fees.  But yeah, those are bad enough.  When DH gets home all three need to go for yearly check ups and updates of anything they need.
