What does everyone have planned for the 4th? We're having a giant cookout (to show off the new pool) and we'll all go to the annual Ancients & Horribles parade and then come back for more food and fireworks. It's going to be a blast!

Oooh! Share your pool pics! We got ours last year but this is the first 4th with it...so we're having my parents over and whatever neighbors want to drop by. We bought the PA fireworks to shoot off later, too.
I'm think ribs might be on the menu at some point.
There will most likely be a ball tournament across the road this weekend.
So I may give the kids a few bucks to go get burgers from the concessions.
Fireworks are on just about every night.

I just checked, seems this year, both counties are doing fireworks on Saturday night.

I went in for the first time yesterday but the water was still soooooo cold I couldn't stay in long. We've got the solar heater and the solar cover both warming it up so hopefully it'll be warmer for the 4th.

I am vegging out! I need a break. I get to leave at noon tomorrow.
I'm just vegging too. I used to be able to sit on my deck & see a nice fireworks show. Now the trees in the woods behind me have grown too big for me to see it.
G is off again. So yet another weekend alone...(How many does this make now??????)
I'm going to try to get some much needed de-cluttering done...then maybe I will go swimming. He is going to be in no mood to talk to when he gets back...

The 4th will probably be a quiet evening at home. Tempe Town Lake has fireworks (usually) but there's not enough money in the world to get me to deal with that crowd. Our neighbors aren't exactly, shall we say, the most caring about following rules so there will probably be a few of them shooting off fireworks. We may just watch one of their displays, if invited.
Back in my teens & 20s we would always go to DC & spend the entire day on the mall. Now I couldn't imagine dealing with the crowd & porta potties. I really am getting old & crotchety!
there are no fireworks of any kind sold or in displays anywhere in several counties where I live, due to dry conditions and the massive fires burning that have taken homes and livestock. Firefighters coming in from all over trying to get ahead of them, one almost jumped the interstate a couple days ago. It is horrible and the wind and horribly dry conditions do not help at all
We will be taking the boat to the lake, camping, fishing, tubing and relaxing...looking forward to it.

The 4th is DH's favorite holiday, and this year will be great because all different events are happening on different days, so hopefully we will get to do the parade and the city fireworks on Saturday and on the 4th we go to some good friends for a BBQ and to shoot of our own fireworks.
A local church on the road parallel to ours has a huge fireworks display - one of their members is a certified pyrotechnician (?) and is in charge of all the fireworks. Its about 1/2 mile from our home, and we can sit on the back porch with a perfect view. We've invited all our immediate neighbors (10-12 people) to a party on our porch at dusk. I'm making all sorts of hors d'oeuvres - hot and cold - and icing down Coors, wines, iced tea, sodas, and other beverages. Ours is the "party house", and I'll cloister the kitty in one of the bedrooms for the duration. Fortunately, we've had about 2" of rain within the last 6 days, so the danger of fire is diminished.
SS said he might come for a visit. I'm waiting to hear from him. DN and her b/f might come over to eat. I'm making four kinds of kabobs, cilantro lime rice, and bacon wrapped corn on the cob. We might go out to his dad's land and watch fireworks. He lives on ten acres.

We have several fireworks shows in the area. We can usually see the Vienna fireworks if we walk to the end of our driveway, up over the trees. They do a fantastic show on NYE which I can see from our bedroom window because the trees are bare. It's a nice end to the ones we fire off. I think this year I'll stream the patriotic music to our outdoor speaker while we shoot them off, for a little more effect.
Years ago we went to the show in Herndon and it was spectacular. The fireworks were synced with the music. Another year, FIL took us to Longwood Gardens where the fireworks were timed with the fountains and music and that was really nice, too. Of course, this was before the grandchildren came along...
Czech, if you bring the cookies over here I'm making four kinds of kabobs. Corn on the cob and some rice. Come on over. We can share.

I'm not working. That's what I'm doing! Not sure of the food part. I want to grill something but I have been working so hard on not eating bad things I don't want to ruin it. Down 10 pounds since braces delivery!

Wow great!

It really helps! No food is enjoyable anymore. Everything just gets stuck in the brckets. So gross! It was great motivation to get back on the diet and exercise train.
Today will be spent doing the usual weekend chores. Lawn, laundry, vacuuming, mopping, organizing.
Tomorrow will be spent exploring somewhere. Maybe Philly (but it is crazy with tourists this weekend), maybe New Hope, maybe tubing down the Delaware River.
Monday will be spent back at home. Will probably grill ribs. Finish any odds and ends that need to be done.
After inventory is done the weekend will be over. But on Monday, Minneapolis is setting off fireworks timed to the music of Prince. DH and I are considering going up for that but it doesn't start until 10pm and it's an hour away and I have to be at work the next morning...and gosh I sound old...

I've done that! On a hot day one July many moons ago.
