I made it through. I got in on the end of a Facebook fight. Some people have no class. There was a big clusterfvck in my neighborhood. Six police cars and a veteran suffering fro PTSD.

Oh, and can I just take a minute to brag here? I fixed a leaky toilet by replacing some parts. True, I was walked through it on the phone but I did the actual work myself!

Well, first let me preface this buy saying that fireworks are illegal in our subdivision. The police even posted signs. And we have two veterans living in the neighborhood. Here are the signs they put up.
And
And here are the comment...
Yes, but it's the 4th of July. People setting off fireworks is almost to be expected, you know?
It doesn't matter if its a holiday, its still illegal. That;s something you accept when you choose to live in the city limit
Good luck with that. I'm more annoyed by people who drive around with their music so loud it shakes my windows than I am by people setting off fireworks for a few nights a year... Happy 4th!
I'm more annoyed with the people who complain on Facebook EVERY SINGLE YEAR! 😠 They act soooo suprised that people are setting off fireworks like it doesn't happen every single year.
My six month old is a critical needs baby. These fireworks have him fretting.
Yes I have a baby who wakes up to every little noise but I'm not going to complain on Facebook that will do nothing.
There are also soldiers/veterans with PTSD that the people setting them off could cause major problems.. Just saying
Yes, and they know this day/week is coming, and should prepare themselves for triggers like this. There are a lot of people living with PTSD, and there are SO many triggers out there...at least this one is predictable.
Earplugs or noise canceling headphones or… idk honestly
How do they 'prepare themselves' when they can hardly control their reactions? Do you even understand PTSD?
But they might stay home to prevent it then inconsiderate people like neighbors set them off.. I have grown up around military members and quite a few friends are military.. Its not as easy to prevent as you think
Knowing a trigger could happen won't prevent or soften the reaction to it. If someone stayed home tonight thinking they are in their safe place away from triggers, they should be safe and not have neighbors Shooting of ILLEGAL fireworks into the night. They can't just turn of the PTSD because they know fireworks happen tonight.
If veteran's have such sensitive ptsd triggers, why don't they get out of town? Does the 4th of July or New Years Eve sneak up on us that easily? (I am a veteran who does not suffer with PTSD.)
So they should just pack up and leave town on a work night???
Why should they leave town so people can break the law?
Sad! These people have fought to defend our freedom and we want to get butt hurt over not popping fireworks!
Anyway, that's part of it. It just goes downhill from their with people calling vets whiners.
And the cops took it seriously in our neighborhood. I believe an arrest was made.

Yeah, it was bad. Our cops put a stop to it pretty quickly.

The soldiers who suffer from PTSD fought so these idiots could have the luxury of living in their homes & being able to set off their precious fireworks...
It rained all day starting at 1 yesterday. The boys went swimming anyway. The rain seemed to lighten up around 8 so we shot off fireworks. We intermixed the smaller fireworks with the big ones we bought in PA. Our "show" lasted about 1 1/2 hours. The people behind us shot off a few, too. Other than that, we really didn't see any, and none of the neighbors came out to watch, which is unusual. I guess they didn't want to brave the rain. If we offended the parents of the infant, toddler, and grade schooler across the street, who knows. I really don't care. The town fireworks were postponed until tonight, so we'll get another show tonight. The fireworks at the Capitol were a dud I understand, but for TV they would switch back to displays from years past. That's fine, but they didn't tell anyone what they were doing, so the people who were actually down there were confused, because what they were showing on TV was not what they were seeing. I guess there's some backlash today about it.
I am one of the few at work today. This was supposed to be part of a week-long shut down. That got changed to just today. That got changed to nothing. But a lot of people had already made plans, so they are still off. I really want to just go home and take a nap.
Morning all. It seems that Sunday night was the night for fireworks here. There were two different displays going off. I couldn't see them but could definitely hear them.
Hey there Geeks! It is POURING here. Lots of storms expected to come through. I'm supposed to see Duran Duran tomorrow. Looks like that may be cancelled. It's outdoors and the storms are supposed to continue through Thursday...

A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
It isn't raining here. It's so humid though, you can't breathe outside.

Same here Lily. Or at least it was this morning when I stepped outside. It rained all day yesterday & then the temps rose significantly today & it's like a sauna. Just miserable. I hate humidity.
We had a huge fireworks display downtown in the college football stadium. I didn't go. It's usually really crowded. Some of the smaller towns have displays. In our subdivision it's illegal. The police posted that about two days ago because there's usually problems. Apparently, a group of people took the street to set off a whole show and it just so happened to be in front of a vet's house. Caused a big scene. Police came out several times. First warnings, then tickets, and then when they still refused to stop I guess one obnoxiously drunk guy got hauled in.

Party poopers! :(
It's a really big deal for my neighborhood. Ice cream and watermelon and sco cones while we watch. We block off one cul-de-sac and everyone just brings their chairs...

Well, I would place the needs of a veteran who fought for my country over my neighbors shooting off fireworks in an illegal place. We have so many fireworks shows here. All legal. People can attend them. My BIL suffers from PTSD. It's a very real thing.

Also, in some neighborhoods it's completely legal. In that case if the neighbors want to get together and have a block party then no problem. As I have repeatedly stated here it is ILLEGAL. That means you are intentionally breaking the law.

It's illegal to set them off in my county. People drive to SC from all over to buy fireworks. They are fun but people need to be considerate of close houses and any vets who might have PTSD for sure. I live right under the flight path of F-!8s and F-35s. No one with PTSD could live in this neighborhood with all the low flying jets and the occasional explosion from the EOD unit which is probably 1/4 mile from my house. But if there were I would not set off fireworks. There are enough open fields nearby for that.
How on earth is one supposed to know if they have a PTSD vet living near them?
The vets I know who have PTSD come to expect (and embrace) celebratory displays on the 4th.
Are we expected to give up a long standing tradition of celebrating our nation's independence for fear of upsetting the few?
Not trying to sound cold-hearted or insensitive, as I understand this is real and horrible for those going through it, and I appreciate the service these vets provided, but aren't/weren't they out there protecting our rights and privileges? One of which is legally shooting off fireworks.
Last weekend at church the sound system malfunctioned, twice. It sounded to me, like gunfire, both when the priest entered the church, and as he departed. My first thought was, "oh sh*t, active shooter." I looked to the father of one of the boys' classmates, an active serviceman, and he seemed unfazed, so I felt a little better.
My point is stuff happens. We all have a history, and we all have triggers. It just seems that today, we're required to walk on eggshells so as not to upset "someone".

Yep, if you live near the city parks or certain places and have PTSD you need to leave for the night. But then the city posts where all the fireworks displays are going to be. You know ahead of time and can prepare.

Our subdivision has a FB page. It was blowing up last night with all the families with small babies and pets and the vets.

Wah...
It's really sad that you care so little for people who fought to give you those rights.

Jojo couldn't go to sleep last night b/c of the fireworks. But it's one night - and people should really expect it.
Most people here expected it and planned for it. But it goes both ways. While people expect for it to happen it shouldn't really go on for three days or into the early hours of the morning. I think the last report made here was at 3:30 am. No one needs to be out that late shooting off fireworks.

I saw the signs on FB. Personally, I thought they were making it all up to stir up controversy. Wouldn't it be better of these vets accepted therapy to handle day to day living?
Again, I'm not trying to sound cold. But PTSD is nothing new. A friend of mine is married to a Vietnam Vet who was a sniper. Life was difficult for everyone in his family when he returned. He still has moments. But he doesn't blame others around him for living their lives.
