They were talking about using the same standards used to rate movies.

I can see it being a good thing.

I've been to some great, family type concerts and I've been to really dark and possibly scary concerts.

Ever seen an Alice Cooper concert? I love his music.

But his concerts could become a bit intense.

I had heard how awful Ozzy's concerts were my whole life.

But it was totally fun and was more like comedy show.

Been to concerts that involved very adult themes.

S&M, BDSM, and torture.

I think it could be a good idea.

unless advertised as family friendly, they are largely not. I think one has to be aware of the music offered by the artist and, possibly view some videos, yu tube or other. This will given you an idea of what will be offered
If there is an artist who routinely appears in risque clothing, then the concert will be off color. Listen to the lyrics, are they demeaning to one group of people, then not family friendly.

I agree with aergia. I think we pretty much know going in what it will be like if we are familiar at all with their music beforehand.

As for beyonce, I think her leotards have gone past their expiration date.....

I went to see Simon and Garfunkel once in a big "theater in the round" tent in Cleveland,

and I was surprised at how LOUD the cover band was. I had to cover my ears, then walk out.

about 400 people followed me out.

I saw an article on this the other day. I think they should have ratings. At least those that appeal to the tween and teen crowd just so parents know what to expect before they give permission for their kids to go.

But I can tell you, I would have not gone to a couple concerts had I known what was in the show.

A quick Google search of the artist should suffice. Why the need for more government regulation? Parents should just do their homework!

Concerts are different now than they were in my day.

Most are just karaoke with very scantily clad dancers.

I don't know how I feel about the rating thing.

I don't want he gov't deciding what concerts are appropriate for my kid. I think if a parent is concerned, they should either do some research, or go with their kid.

I don't know.. this might have been helpful when I was deciding whether or not to take DD to see Taylor Swift. I know in hindsight after seeing the show in videos and such it would have been ok, but her last CD was a bit more grown up and I didn't know if the show was going to reflect that or not, by the time I knew, it was sold out.

I am not sure. I mean some of them go way overboard in concert. I mean, you wouldn't want to take your daughter to see Lady Gaga when she was touring for her Fame Monster album. Some of it depends on the album. Like when she was touring with Tony Bennet singing jazz, then that was a different kind of show then her previous shows. Depending on the music and artist, it isn't that hard to figure out usually. You wouldn't expect to take your kid to Marilyn Manson. With Taylor Swift, I wasn't exactly sure either. She his pretty PG for the most part, but her new album was really toted as her breakthrough into pop. We did take the kids to see her and it was a great concert. Now, Bieber just toured so he seems to be getting out there so not sure what his concert would be like.
I do think a rating system would help a little. I mean i do think parents should have some clear idea if they are going to have dildos thrown out to the audience or if it is G rated.

It's no different than movie ratings. If a concert is rated R, then the parents can take the kids, but they can't go by themselves. PG-13 means that no one under 13 can go by themselves, but the parents can take them.

Exactly. When I was in college, I was in charge of playing music during time outs and half time of some of our sports. I had a stack of CD to pick from. One time, I popped one in and hit play on a song I heard on the radio all the time. I had no idea there was a radio version, and what I was playing was Not it. I got in a tiny bit of trouble.

as for concerts, I think a rating system would be helpful. Even if it's just the venue classifying the shows. Doesn't have to be a big government program.

Whatever happened to the days when only high school kids and older went to concerts?! If I went to Beyoncé and there were a bunch of 10 year olds there...that would be inappropriate. Not because of Beyoncé but because of what you will see in the crowd.

Does a pre teen really need to go to a concert?! I don't think so. It's an adult event unless it's the Wiggles.

Yes, I knew this. In the USA it is done by a non governmental agency. But not in all countries.

Some parents are just idiots. They take their kids to shows that they clearly should not take them too. And it isnt' like they don't know what the show will be like. You can easily google the artist and watch live concert video on the internet. If you gave a rating, i am presuming it has to do with the actual show itself. Like scantily clad dancers doing sexual moves or the artist yelling F bombs or whatever.

This, it is subjective isn't it, that is why a rating system would not work.

A liberal minded person might consider checking websites that rate movies where they discuss what they saw so you can judge for yourself. :)
