CNN)Papa was a Rolling Stone.

Mick Jagger is set to welcome his eighth child, according to Billboard.
The 72-year-old rocker and his 29-year-old girlfriend, American ballerina Melanie Hamrick are said to be expecting. The pair began dating in 2014.
Jagger has seven children ranging in ages from 45 to 17 and in 2014 became a great grandfather when his then 21-year-old granddaughter Assisi Jackson gave birth to a baby girl.
The Rolling Stones frontman will celebrate his 73rd birthday on July 26.
Jagger now joins band mate Ronnie Wood, 69, whose wife gave birth to twin girls over Memorial Day weekend.

It's a bit weird, but he was a good looking dude and obviously has pretty good genes. Plus, he can afford as many children as he wants to have. I can't blame either of them.

My first reaction was eww.

I would think it's a selfish decision, but I have to wonder how hands on people like him really are....children raised by hired help usually become more attached to their au pair than their real parents.

He isn't becoming a father. He is becoming a sperm donor.

I think it's more creepy that his oldest child is 45 & his newest girlfriend is 29.

IF he lives to see it, he will be 90 at this child's 18th birthday. That's wrong. He will never be an actual parent or a part of this child's life and that is sad.

Liking older men is fine. Having a child with someone in their 70's is another story...

From everything I've read over the years, he hasn't ever really been an involved father.

He lives overseas, the baby mamma lives in the states.

Why?  He knows how babies are made, his GF does too.  She obviously wanted one and he let her by not protecting himself.  He can easily financially support the kid. I don't think he is being selfish I think he was being unselfish by apparently agreeing to it.

So a child will essentially grow up without a father? How long do you bet will he live?

I think it's an incredibly selfish choice. I don't care if all his other children are raised by nannies...

None of us are guaranteed a parent. This child will probably have a father longer than some kids do...

Actually I doubt the child will ever have a father in his/her life. He won't be involved at all and that's a shame. Studies show that children do better in households with two parents. And yes, I am a "liberal" and I will say it again...children do better in a household with two parents.

All the money in the world cannot replace the love and involvement of a parent in a child's life.

You get your kids when you get them.   So, not always under ideal circumstances.  Everyone has obstacles to overcome.  Would it be better to abort the baby?  Some of you seem pretty eager to this.

And no. You dont get them when you get them. There is no stork dropping them inside chimneys! You get them when you have unprotected sex. Children are a result of the choices we make! It's not a surprise!

If by stepping up you mean writing a check...yes, he is doing that. There is so much more to "stepping up" than paying child support though. SO much more.

I feel it's irresponsible to procreate with a man who is unlikely to ever be a meaningful part of his child's life, whether it be because of his age or his maturity level. Yes, it's her choice. But I can certainly have an express an opinion on it. And I would NEVER EVER presume to tell another woman what to do with her body - her right to choose abortion is hers alone. I would never answer that question for her. Even though you asked me to.

Since there are no guarantees in life should we all just run fast and loose with our choices? No. We do our best to mitigate the dangers out there. We wear our seatbelts and put on sunscreen, go to the doctor and try to eat healthy to mitigate the risks and stick around as long as possible.
