I will be in my cooking happy place throughout Tuesday. I need to break down a rotisserie chicken and make broth from the carcass. Never made broth before but I figure I'll give it a go. Our friends found an awesome farmer's market and shared their haul with us so I will be making stuff with some of it and freezing the rest for smoothies and such. I need to make: blueberry syrup, applesauce, and mini-cherry pies. Might make some cherry syrup too. We're doing an end-of-study potluck for my PM Bible study and I'm making lasagna, my cheddar biscuits, and peanut butter-chocolate bars. Hubby is salivating at the thought of my biscuits. He absolutely loves them. I also need to do dinner prep for Tuesday and Wednesday.

All that sounds good.

Did you buy a pre cooked chicken?

Yep. We get the rotisserie chickens from Costco every so often.

I make roasted chicken from scratch every few months. I have a standard meal I do with it when I do make it.

Never used just the bones.

Whatever works and is yummy!

I need some chicken broth for some upcoming meals so I figured I'd see if I can make some.

Mmmm broth.

Sounds good to me right now because I'm getting a cold and I'm all stuffed up.

And my check engine light is on.

And...just kidding there's nothing else at the moment.

Vaca starts in 4 days. I hop on a plane in 7 days. Am I the first geek to have geek meets so close together yet so far away?

That's how I do it too. Then I shred the meat and freeze it. I use it for casseroles and such.

I can't believe it's almost here!!  My boss was talking about some project next week. And I reminded her that I'm out of the office Wednesday and Thursday. She goes, oh $hit, that's right!  It would seem she forgot lol

Any time I have a carcass I make broth and soup with it. Chicken, turkey, whatever. Add veggies while it's simmering sometimes. I use the turkey neck to make broth while the turkey is cooking at Thanksgiving, too. DH uses it to make his gravy.

Working from home today.

Nothing terribly ambitious.

Chef, everything sounds so yummy! Have fun and send some my way. ;)

IKWTDS, you lucky girl! You will have a blast. :)

Lindley, so glad you get to celebrate a birthday with your family! I remember how hard it was on you when they went over seas. So glad you are all together again. :)

Sadly, I have never bought a precooked chicken.

Good morning Lily, Vette, DG, O4 and FNW!

My morning was off to a late start. I slept in!!! Blame the wine. ;)

A friend left fresh peaches on our kitchen table while we were gone yesterday. Peach pie is in DH's future! The peaches smell and taste so good!

Zucchini bread needs to be made today as well.

Shh, I am home alone today and I don't want to jinx myself. lol

Czech!!! Glad you are in a relaxed & happy mood today. Toss me a peach please. I love peaches but never think to buy them. You have totally different way of life. I've witnessed it before with relatives & a friend who spent half his time in the Bahamas. People just don't come in other people's houses here when they aren't home. Bearing gifts or not.

My ex's parents were from South Dakota. After MIL died, FIL used to let himself in the backyard to play with the dog. Ex used to get mad, but I told him it was fine, to let him. He was a kindly old man who was depressed, and playing with Hogan made him happy. Instead of telling to stop dropping in, I told him to go ask if he wanted something to drink or to come in.

Awe, Lexxy, yes our lives are very different. We never lock our doors and friends and neighbors are welcome to come in at any time.

Shh, that works both ways, thus the veggie dumping from my house to theirs.

(tosses a sweet peach to Lexxy)

I totally get your ex-FIL. When you go to a family members home, you may or may not knock, or you may or may not holler "anybody home?", and then just walk in. Most South Dakotan's are good with that. smile

Especially if they are rural.

You can drop cucumbers off on my doorstep any day.  I love cucumbers.  I'm not much for squash though.  It is ok but I have never personally cooked it so I have no idea what to do with it.

LOL! He's usually my sous chef but lately has been a pain in the posterior aka wanting to do it HIS way.

His favorite job is mixing stuff but he gets overly enthusiastic sometimes so the surrounding area ends up splattered.

Sort of. The idea came from there but I've improved on them.

Everyone who has tried them has raved about them.

Since we have a thread explaining the best way to send baked goods through the mail I will be awaiting my biscuits!

The USPS would have to move their behinds. They're only good for about 3 days in a desert climate. Not sure how long they'd last in your climate or if they'd still be good after shipping.

I'm pretty sure they'll be hard as rocks with all this heat.  They would probably continue to bake while crossing the country.

Shop Cat isn't feeling well.

I just ran down to the plant, with one of our pet carriers.

Wayne was out in the plant, looking for her. She's hiding.

I hope he finds her soon, so we can get her to the Vet tonight.

Hold a good thought, please.

Thanks.

Thank you, TD.

Wayne came home without finding her.

The guys at the plant are on the look out.

If they can snag her, and put her into Wayne's office, they will call us.

We are worried about her.

Here, that garden sharing is called 'drive-by fruitings'. There is often so much overflow that at some point everyone is saturated and don't want more but then it goes bad. So often, people will load up a bag and drop it anonymously and drop it in someone's doorstep. Then here stuck having to figure out what to do with it. It's not uncommon to get home to a bag holding 8 zucchini and a butternut squash when you already have a fridge/freezer full.
