The nomination was barely sealed up at the Democratic National Convention before Bernie Sanders, who had campaigned against Hillary Clinton for the party’s nod, went back to being an Independent.
Sanders, who considers himself, officially, an Independent in Congress because his views lean further left than the Democratic party’s platform, caucuses with Democrats. But until declaring an intention to run for the presidency in 2015, he had rarely, if ever, identified as a member of the Democratic Party (he’s been in politics since 1979).
And now, despite pleading with his base to support Hillary, even though they’re concerned that she’s too moderate, Sanders will return to Vermont and to his seat in the Senate, and he’ll do it with no official party affiliation.
How does that screw Hillary? he went back to his roots.
Because it shows he does not really align with or support the Democratic party. It's means his "endorsement" of Hillary was a sham and he wants you to know it.
His supporters are not Hillary's and the Democratic Party's bad treatment of Bernie, whom they love, will mean they will not support her.
I don't think people realize how many votes the man actually got.

Well, I wouldn't be so sure about that. His supporters will have no voice in this election.

His convention credentials were adorned with buttons for Bernie and against the Trans-Pacific Partnership. He had come from an event organized by Working Families, an advocacy group focused on economic inequality, but swung by a delegate event at the Capital Grille on Broad to grab a free sandwich when Warren walked by with his red flag.
“I’ve yet to meet a Bernie Sanders supporter who would support Donald Trump,” he said. “I think it’s a bit of a media construct. That [Trump] is obviously not an option. I live in a state that’s likely not to be that close. But if I feel like I have to vote for Hillary Clinton to stop Donald Trump from becoming president, that’s what I’ll do.”

In VT, most of us Bernie supporters are actually going to vote for Jill Stein - not because we think she will win but because she's the only sane option left IF we decide to leave our houses and actually vote. Here, it doesn't matter what the popular vote is. So it's really more of a message than a vote. We just got over 1,000 signatures on a petition to have her name added to the ballot. If we were a swing state, it would be different but if you are in a red or blue state, you can really just vote for your cat and it won't affect the outcome. The popular vote in places like OH, NH, FL, etc are going to carry this election for the rest of us.
Right. Not sure if that helps trump at all, because they're talking about voting for that Greenpeace woman, Jill something. It's the independents we need to ensure victory.
Thing is, the corruption within the Dem party is so exposed, no one can ignore. Dems are walking away from the party. She lost a lot more votes than just those from Bernie supporters.

And just think, 4 more months of scandals to come.
Nope but at least the GOP saw the writing on the wall. Sure there are still hold outs, such as Romney and Cruz, but they will not even be a blip on the political monitor in another few months. The droves of Dems running to Jill Stein and the other 3rd party candidate that will vote with their heart will only take away votes from Hillary. Trump's current supporters are locked in, his numbers will go up, Hillary's down. It will still be a tight race but Trump's figures and chances are better. Next week's poll numbers, legit ones, will be very telling.
