Woke up this a.m. (Monday) and heard on TV that Ms. Koike has won the election for Mayor of Tokyo. The first woman in history to do so. And she did not just win, she had a landslide. Received 2,900,000 votes out of approximately 6,000,000 cast. The runner up, who was supported by the party presently in power, only got 1,793,000. No, those are the correct numbers; no mistakes. Gives you an idea of how many people live in Tokyo. 60% of the eligible voters voted. Quite a shock to the established political parties - none of which supported her. Hope she does a good job.
Wonder if this provides an omen of what will happen in the US Presidential election as far a gender is concerned???

I'm happy for Japan if she's a good candidate, but I don't "YAY" women just b/c they are women - they have to be good people/candidates/leaders, etc., too.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
And if the US had a qualified female candidate, I'd be thrilled.
