'Annihilation of man': Pope Francis condemns transgender teachings Pope Francis has hit out against children being taught about transgender choice in schools.
The Pope weighed in with his views on gender during a private meeting with bishops from Poland during a five day pilgrimage last week.
In a transcript of the closed-door meeting released by the Vatican, the Pope supported his predecessor’s views on not teaching children gender choice, who described it as the “epoch of sin”.
He said: “We are living in a moment of annihilation of man as image of God.
“Today, children are taught this at school: that everyone can choose their own sex.
“And why do they teach this? Because the books come from those people and institutions who give money.”
Pope Francis added that he had discussed the matter with his predecessor, Pope Benedict, who still lives at the Vatican and described it as “the epoch of sin against God the Creator”.
He added: “God created man and woman; God created the world like this and we are doing the exact opposite.”
The Pope previously stated this year that young people need to help to accept their own bodies as they are created.
Pope Francis ended the talk by telling the Polish bishops he wanted them to reflect on the issue.
