A six-year-old boy who was fighting for life after being shot at a Townville school has died.

Jacob Hall was shot in the leg at Townville Elementary School in Townville, South Carolina, on Wednesday. 

Fourteen-year-old Jesse Osborne is accused of opening fire on the school after murdering his father Jeffrey. 

He currently faces one count of murder and two of attempted murder at Anderson County Court. 

On Saturday, hours after his family publicly prayed for his recovery, Jacob was reported to have died at Greenville Health System Children's Hospital.

Anderson County Police could not confirm whether Osborne's charges would change in light of Jacob's death on Saturday afternoon.

'Family members say Jacob Hall passed away this afternoon.

'He was one of three shot at Townville Elementary on Wednesday,' WSPA7 reporter Rachelle Spence tweeted at 3.45pm. 

Hours earlier, his older brother Rodger Dale Hall Jr, told NBC he was hopeful the six-year-old would recover. 

'I'll never give up because I know he won't give up. We stand by each other, that is what brothers do.'

Jesse Osborne, 14, is accused of shooting the child and injuring two others after murdering his own father 

Jacob lost 75 per cent of his body's blood when he was shot in the femoral artery.

The child was so enthusiastic about going to school, his brother added, he would cry if he wasn't able to attend.

Osborne was expelled from a different school in the town months before the attack after trying to bring a machete and hatchet to class.

It was claimed he had been the victim of bullies. 

He appeared in court on Friday charged with one count of murder and three of attempted murder. 

The teenager's mother Tiffney sobbed throughout the proceedings. 

Jesse, who had been nicknamed 'Little Jesse' at school, allegedly opened fire at the school, which he did not attend, shouting: 'I hate my life…I hate my life.' 

The teen had already killed his father, it is alleged, and phoned his grandmother Patty to tell her what he'd done. 

He made no statement in Anderson County Court on Friday. 

First-grade teacher Meghan Hollingsworth was also injured in the shooting along with another six-year-old student. They are both recovering.
