While I don't hope they die, I hope they don't cry and complain when they don't get help.

There are some people that have said they would REFUSE to evacuate. I hope they drown. Cleansing of the gene pool...
Kinda sick to hope someone dies.

If I was on the immediate coast I would have been gone when it was first suggested. If I was farther inland I might weigh my options and make the decision to ride it out. I've been through a few (not in Florida though) and it really depends on where you are.

The people that they were interviewing were on the coast. They said they would take their chances. Obviously a death wish.

Some people think it won't be as bad as it ends up being. Some have nowhere to go or any way to get there. Until I walk in their shoes I can't relate to their choices.

I'm sure we all remember storms that ended up being less than they were billed to be. The internet is full of those memes but I agree it should be better safe than sorry.

People who refuse to evacuate are risking the lives of the rescue people that will have to come try to save them. I really think if you refuse a mandated evacuation, you should be on your own - no services. Unless there are children involved, and then I think the parents should be charged with reckless endangerment.

So I guess we shouldn't post the Darwin Awards anymore?
The Darwin Awards are bad taste. I will admit I do laugh at the blatantly stupid ones though. Just like I laugh at a lot of the People of Walmart submissions.
NJN hasn't posted in a month, and yet she came here just to address little ole me. I didn't know I had the power. It must be stronger than I thought... Mwah ahah!

I have some childhood friends (well their parents) who live in the path. They are in their late 80's and he is critically ill. They have nowhere to go. No one to rescue them. They are staying.

So back to the OP, well not the OP but the storm. I lived through the perfect storm. Have the pics and video. it was horrible, the destruction was bad, the clean up took years. When you experience mother nature at her most fierce, you do not forget that humbling experience. You are humbled because you accept, realize, just the force of mother nature. This is why I roll my eyes at the Human-made climate change crap. We cannot affect Mother Nature to the point of destruction, but she can destroy us. Don't ever think we as humans we can change things.

Well, i dont' think it is that simple 04. Not everyone has the means or money to even evacuate. Or, they dont' have anywhere to go. Or, they are long in the tooth and that is their home and if they die, they die. I can see thinking that way at some point in my life. So, no I would not want anyone to drown. However, if they wish to take that risk then that is on them and they can't expect to have someone rush in to save them.

So that is what the Governor is saying, if you stay you are risking not only your life but the life of a first responder. People do have options if they cannot afford to go somewhere. There are shelters and transportation available. Some people just refuse to leave. They place their "things' at a higher priority to their own lives.

This. People that refuse to leave during a mandatory evacuation should be forced to leave. In handcuffs if necessary. There is transportation. There are shelters. Everyone has the resources. And those that refuse should not expect help.

Every school district closed yesterday, literally 100s of buses that did nothing but take people to shelters.
Shelters began opening Tuesday.
I saw people on the news joking about it, saying it was exciting while holding her 5 year olds hand. They were staying put.
They are saying it will be weeks before power can begin to be restored.
And it isn't the wind that is the biggest killer, it's the storm surge.
People will be on their rooves whining about how they couldn't get help.
Well, you made this bed. Now you lay in it.

Why should people be forced to leave in handcuffs? Adults can make choices. Even bad choices. And, a lot of these storms turn out to be much ado about nothing. They have cried wolf so many times that after awhile you just accept whatever comes as part of living there. And it isn't about always about things. If it is so dangerous then why do we have all these stupid reporters out there standing in raincoats? Why are they there at all?
It's the reporter's job to take those risk. Like it's a soldiers job to fight in wars, and a police officer's job to go after the bad guy down the dark alley.
And this one is BAD. I mean, like maybe the worst in history. If they are too dumb to pay attention to that fact, they are likely to die. And I don't want good rescue people forced to risk their lives more than necessary because people are dumb.

People are dumb. There are probably some people who think it would be cool to go out surfing. There is no end to stupid in human beings. But, the Gov was very clear. You are doing this at your own risk of life and limb. And, the Calvary is not going to show up at the 11th hour.
Most areas state over and over that they will assist those who can't get out on their own.
Our law enforcement kept announcing that anyone staying was putting others at risk when they would have to rescue the ones staying.
Hurricane Matthew is hitting our coast on 10/7. In the bible, Matthew 10:7 it says "Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near."
You wouldn't believe the dreams I've had.
Or maybe you would.

But what about the kids who have no choice because their bone head parents want to stay?
And when every single weather man says it's a killer storm and to get out, then get out.
As for "if it so dangerous why are they there", they are only allowed to stay for so long. The reporters were saying yesterday that they had only a few more minutes and then they would be forcibly removed from where they were.
Because it's that bad.
I have a friend on the Gulf side, he said they are getting wind gusts of over 80mph.
They are under tornado warnings and buildings are losing roofs.
That's how big this thing is.

THAT'S why the big push to get everyone out of harms way.
It hasn't actually come ashore yet.
It's still tracking to take big 180 and come right back across the panhandle.
But yes. Let's be flip about the entire thing.
