Morning. I was struggling with a alliterated Sunday daily title. I just kept thinking "snow". I took the dog out a bit ago and saw some snow flakes in the flashlight beam. It isn't snowing now, but it was a reminder of what is to come.

Up early, need to blow the leaves off the driveway and deck today!

Where oh where is the gardener? We need leaf removal, stat! DH says there's a ton more to come so he's better off waiting....he's probably right.

Looks like the wind died down and it should be a beautiful fall day today! Time to grab some pumpkins!

That is exactly why I am not raking the lawn today, just clear off the driveway and deck.

Shhhh! I'm playing hookey from Church today.

We had our annual Picnic in the Park yesterday. A fund-raiser,

with lots of games and treats for the kiddies. Totally exhausted
today, thank goodness someone else (who lives close to the
church) volunteered to do the flowers.

I stepped up our of my comfort zone, and got one of those
temporary tattoos. Its gold colored, and goes around my
left wrist. Temporary is the word - its already wearing off.
Hopefully it will last through the coronation this afternoon
for our Royal Court - I'm the Coordinator/Director.

I just steam cleaned the carpet in the basement. It was stained from when I had my furnace serviced. They technician did not put any protective covering down and tracked grease/dirt in on my almost new berber including the stairs. Looks good now, appears all the dirt came up. I pretreated it the other day and I am sure that helped. It's great doing projects like that early in the day, I feel so productive, enough that if I lazed around the rest of the day I may not feel guilty.

Got groceries bought and put up. One load of laundry in dryer, running a cleaning cycle in washer. Next is unloading and reloading dishwasher. Leaves really aren't bad but I have so many acorns! Dern squirrels better get busy! The theater close to Hilton Head is playing The Shining at 2, we will probably go see that.

Jeez, ya'll make a person feel super lazy.

I'm still in bed debating on going back to sleep.

Mom and dad left about 3 this morning going to Talladega for the race.

Caitlyn is going to church and then out with friends.

It's just me and the boys today.

Not much to do.

Splendid Sundau morning! The sun is shining but the winds are howling.

Between Friday and yesterday, I did something to my calves. They hurt all around. I put muscle patches on them last night.

My Halloween costume is almost all ready to go. DH just needs khaki/cargo pants for his. We found a hard weave safari hat at a thrift store and he decided to be either a safari adventurer or that head guy from Jurassic park.

If I can make it up and down the stairs, I will be organizing the freezers and taking inventory. We need to do a Sams Club run this week but I won't go without a list.

I also need to make my drunken fruit for Halloween.
Pina Colada bites - pineapple chunks soaked in coconut rum
Peaches and Cream - peach slices soaked in whipped vodka
Orange Creamsicle - mandarin oranges soaked in vanilla vodka

What kind of fruit do you use? Fresh, frozen, canned? How long do you soak it? We need details here

Everyone is welcome. It is actually for the parents who ToT with their kids. Neighbor does Jell-O shots.

It is real simple. Take any fruit, I use canned. Drain the liquid, I get in juice, not syrup. Cover with alcohol. Let sit for up to a month. 2-3 days is minimum. A week is good.

I should try frozen fruit next time.

Either with toothpicks or in little disposable cups from the restaurant supply store. Like you would get a side of dressing in.

The red solo cups now come in shot glass size, those would be cute to use.

Great idea but expensive.  We get about 200 kids for ToT.  I never counted the adults.

I usually go thru 4 large cans of pineapple With one chunk per shot.

I sort of played hooky from church today, I didn't go to the service but I went to Sunday school.

I am having such a hard time with my class, it's a new class to me, it's only two kids, a boy and a girl. The boy is (I apologize for this) a mouthy little brat who has no manners, and the girl clearly wants nothing to do with me, won't talk to me or make eye contact unless she absolutely has to. I don't know what to do to win them over! So I am just trying to get through each class and hope they get SOMETHING out of it.

But anyway. I have to go to the grocery store today too, otherwise we are just watching Nascar and football and I'm glazing my pottery.

I'm sorry you are having a tough time with your class vette. I've had a few difficult kids and I know how frustrating it can be. I've put them in time out and sometimes I would tell the kids to lay their heads on the table. You may already be doing this when you say your Prayers add them to your Prayers and Pray for . The girl may be feeling uncomfortable being the only girl in the class, I wouldn't take it personal. I had one girl who I had in my class for a few years and she is just now talking to me.

They are little, right? Like preschool.

I taught 3-4 years olds, I have some suggestions if you would like.

Do you have PowerPoint on your laptop?

My kids loved when I put corresponding pictures on the lap top and played it as I read the information.

Make a sock puppet or two to help teach.

Are you able to make crafts during class?

Do things that let's them get up and move. A music time with active songs work great.

I had a couple kids who could read just a little and the others were beginning to recognize words. So I would give them words and when I came to that word in the story, they said it.

We also would have fun day now and then, play bible games.

Hope it helps.

My best advice, don't take anything personally and remember the class is over in 20-30 minutes.

No actually they are older, like 6th grade. I'm more used to teaching the younger age groups, this is my first time teaching older kids. So I feel like my craft/ song ideas are a little juvenile for them, and I'm sure that's part of the problem

6th grade is the worst.  Think back to when you were that age and what was going through your mind. Take lessons from that.

 Oh.

Ok.

Well, let me think.

At that age, they should be ready for a little more in depth learning.

What do 6th graders deal with in their lives?

Are you able to create your own lessons or are you given what to teach?

It's hard with just 2 students, maybe ask them to invite a friend. Girls vs guys, the winner gets to pick a treat or class outing.

Work on verse memorization.

Give a verse or portion to learn, have a contest.

Ask them what they want to learn, have a suggestion box.

6th graders are how old? Is there a service in the church they could help do? Hand out bulitins, help give out visitor cards, the church workers of tomorrow are learning how today.

The PowerPoint lessons would still work.

Play "how does this apply" with you lessons.

I just finished two handwork projects for DW's birthday, which is coming up this week. I made her a needle felted wall hanging with some custom batting I had carded through a shop on Etsy. I highly recommend Wildethyme Art:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/wildethyme?ref=shop_sugg

They have made me custom yarn and battings that are simply gorgeous. Plus they always mail them with a little satchel of dried lavender and the fibers smell delicious.

I also made her a throw pillow from a wool sweater I accidentally washed and dried (and hence shrunk). I used some custom spun yarn from the same shop to weave the top of the pillow and used my sad little shrunken sweater as the back. Here are pictures of the yarn they made me, from their Etsy shop. These are their stock photos but honestly, the yarn they spun for me looks just like it.

That is a tough age, to old for the cute fun stuff but not old enough  to be a part  of  the  youth  group.  One of our Sunday  school  teachers who teaches  6th grade brings a breakfast  pizza every  quarter  and the kids seem  to  enjoy it.  Maybe have a Bible  drill where you give the a verse and they have a race to find the verse. Make a chart and whoever  finds the most verses  in the quarter  receives a small prize. Challenge  them to memorize  bible  verses. After the lesson  ask them questions  about what they heard.

Great ideas.  Also, how about some nature projects?  Middle schoolers really like the earth sciences.

Those are great ideas.  You could also try to get them to choose a service project, learn about what it means to "serve" others, and get them excited about helping people who need it.  Christmas is coming - does your church do the shoeboxes?

No, what are the shoeboxes? I'm new to this church so I'm still getting used to their ways.

SB, do my eyes deceive me or is that a coach??

Operation Christmas Child.  You prepare shoeboxes with gifts to send around the world to underdeveloped countries.  Our collection deadline is November 23rd here, so you'd have to get busy.  Here's the link:
