Let's talk about our fur babies.

Monster likes to sleep under my bed.

Mostly, it's no problem.

But now and then, he barks in his sleep.

You know how many times he has been right under me and bark and I jump like an idiot?

I swear, he sometimes does it on purpose.

Nancy (our cat) has been with us 19 years. Never scratched a carpet, drape, chair, etc. Only her scratching post. Never used anything except her litter box. She is an inside cat. The only thing she demands is her breakfast. If it is not served by 5:30 a.m. she sets up quite a ruckus with her calls and yelling at us to get up and feed her before she starves to death. (Not much chance of that. LOL)

I love your optimism in introducing a new topic. my fur baby is becoming anal and not liking change in his middle age. I am not liking that. Love him but he has got to open up to the new fur babies in the 'hood.

Let's see...
Eevee (monster), my only girl. She was found in a ditch at about 3 weeks old, she can be clingy and demanding. Growls at all the boys.

Jake (buddy), my sugar kitty (the diabetic one) . Sweet as can be but is always hungry now that he's sick. He's thin but eats enough for 3 kitties.

Miroku (fatfat), my old man. He's slowing down a lot. He's a good boy, just goes with the flow.

Phin (phinny), my most recent rescue, we've had him just over a year. He has one bad leg but gets around quite well on 3. He is warming up but still afraid of everything.

Orion (big head), he's huge. He spends a lot of time at my neighbors hunting rats out of their trash.

All my pets came to us as rescues, everyone is spayed or neutered.

My Sheba is sweet as can be - a young puppy trapped in a really old body. She needs the rugs to get up, and continually lays down as far away from any of them as possible, making her unable to get up. You'd think she'd learn. She also won't sleep on a dog bed - prefers the hard floor.

The cats will hop up and sleep on you the minute you sit or lay down, but they do not like to be held.

The 2 fish we have left are the big bullies that tortured the other fish until they died. I keep waiting for them to go belly up, too. I want to get rid of that aquarium.

Don't have any pets currently. Unless you count the couch monkey that's watching Beethoven's Christmas (or whatever the title is).

From the past ...
Isaiah (dog) - Very stubborn, very loyal dog. Very protective of me. I euthanized him back in 2010 because he had cancer and it wasn't curable. He was a Chow-Corgi-who knows what else mix. One vet said he had a little Samoyed in him. He was best friends with my parents' beagle Baby.

Cats I've had - White Lightning, Blackie, Oscar, Congo, Lady Bear, Ezekiel, and Zachariah. Oscar was my favorite. Vet said he was a purebred Russian Blue, which we knew wasn't possible since his mother was an orange tabby. Oscar was slowing down but perked back up when we got Ben (rat). Those two became best friends. Ben was huge and we'd let him run free in the house. None of the cats bothered him. Out of all the cats I had, Ezekiel was the only hunter. He taught Zachariah to hunt.

Rats I've had - Ben, Ratticus, Onyx, and Specks. Onyx and Specks I got as babies. Ex1 took them when he moved back to Cali. He didn't secure their cage door so they got out into his car and died because they got stuck somewhere and overheated. Ratticus was a rescue. Had her for a couple years before she died of pneumonia.

Other pets ... Ferrets - Lucky, Sabrina, and Snopi. Hamsters - Sharlit (Siberian dwarf, mean little turd). I don't remember the name of the teddy bear hamster I had. Gerbils - Gordon and Ramsay. Gordon died of old age. Ramsay got rehomed because I was done with critters and wanted him to have a better owner. Guinea pig - Luka. Birds (all c0ckatiels) - Edgar (he chose us, flew down from a tree and adopted us), Esther (a rescue), Soco, and Dixie.

I've also quite a few fish over the years. They all had names but I don't remember what they were.

Caitlyn was just a few days old when I visited my brother and our dog Sheba.

Sheba was a timber wolf. Extremely protective of us but also gentle as could be.

I got out of the, Sheba stopped at my side for a head pat.

Then she smelled Caitlyn, still in the car, and she couldn't wait for me to get her out.

I held Caitlyn down for Sheba to get a good look at.

Sheba liked Caitlyn up the side of her face and then tugged the edge of the blanket for me to follow.

Sheba laid down in the floor and would pat the floor wanting Caitlyn down there.

She would lay with Caitlyn all day.

My house rats chew on the cage while I'm watching TV, so I have to use closed captions. I'm off to google life expectancy for hamsters....

Our hamster only lived for a year.

Wouldn't that be terrible, FNW?wink

Pets. We have four cats currently. Down from six. Those kittens were adorable, but I could hardly wait to get them out of the house. They are well loved in their new homes and I've gotten a few pictures. I'm really glad we got to experience that.
Funny things: Jim is a terrier trapped in a cats body. He runs to the door if someone knocks and is always digging between the couch cushions.
Sanchez is a teddy bear come to life, always ready to snuggle. A total purr bag.
Ginger is my little shadow, she makes sure to always be in the same room as me.
And Zoe, she is beautiful and terrible. So fluffy and so mean.

Sometime soon we will be converting the hermit crab's (r.i.p., poor fellow) aquarium into a terrarium with live plants that Sanchez cannot eat and possibly tree frogs as well. I'm excited about that.

Pepper (aka PrissyButt when she does something naughty) is
22 - ancient for a cat. She's never been outdoors (except for
5 minutes when she got out of the travel trailer, and didn't
know what to do in the grass under the rig!). We have to
keep the bedroom door shut at night, because she has de-
cided that 4:30 is the time she wants her breakfast! We can
hear her, but at least she can't jump up on us before we're
ready to get up.
PrettyKitty is our outdoor cat - she showed up on my doorstep
about 6 years ago, and hasn't left. She gets the leftovers from
Pepper's breakfast, and earns her keep by protecting us from
snakes, gophers, and other varmits. She gets along well with
all our chickens, and just ignores them. She has long, fluffy
fur, and lets me brush her (even her belly) with a nice stiff
brush, which keeps the mats down.
Calico, Boots, Blackie, Sissy, Pewter, Ginger, and Crybaby
are all feral cats at our fishing camp. I swear they recognize
the sound of our pickup, because they come running when we
drive up. I always give them some sort of leftovers when we
arrive, and the trimmings from when we clean the fish. They
are well fed!

I wish I could have a cat. :sniffle: Hubby is allergic to cats tho. I wonder if a savannah cat or a bengal cat is different from a regular cat enough where he wouldnt get allergic. hm..

 There are low dander cats.

I was looking at them at one time, but decided against one.

I really love Bengal kitties... they are beautiful but expensive. I got my Kiddie sort of on accident. Never really planned on getting a cat, never really liked cats until my son brought him home on Halloween night 2010. I was really angry at first that someone would give him a kitten instead of candy but after spending one week with the little guy, I was in love. He is the best pet I've ever owned. He's got such a great personality and really is super cool. Here is a pic of him when we got him... aww

I know!  I was livid.  Me, my son and kiddie drove around the neighborhood looking for the perps that did this and me and my son were both bawling our eyes out the whole time... but for different reasons.  It's actually funny now looking back.  lol!  It all worked out in the end.

Saw this on imgur today. Just about bawled...

In the dog world, humans are elves that routinely live to be 500+ years old.
"They live so long, but the good ones still bond with us for our entire lives. These immortals are so kind, we must be good friends to them. Now I am old. The fur around my muzzle is grey and my joints ache when we walk together. yet she remains unchanged, her hair still glossy, her skin still fresh, her step still sprightly. Time doesn't touch her and yet I love her so."

"For generations, he has guarded over my family. Since the days of my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, he has kept us safe. For so long we thought him immortal. But now I see differently, for just as my fur grows gray and my joints grow stiff, so too do his. He did not take in my children, but gave them away to his. I will be the last that he cares for. My only hope is that I am able to last until his final moments. The death of one of his kind is so rare. The ending of a life so long is such a tragedy. He has seen so much, he knows so much. I know he takes comfort in my presence. I only wish that I will be able to give him this comfort until the end."

My pets:

Onyx is 15 & skittish. She spends most of her life on my bed. She will occasionally go outside if the weather is nice & only if I leave the door open otherwise she panics & hides in the bushes & I can't fish her out.

Desmond is 9 & he's not very smart. He is loving & laid back but really a bit of a dull bulb. Most cats if they want food they go cry by their empty bowl. Or if they want out they cry by the door. Not him. He'll sit in the middle of the living room & cry. I have to check the bowl or go to the door to figure out what he wants. That is just one example. Oh and he drools when he is happy.

Maggie is 6 & full of personality. She is lovey & sweet but also a tough cookie. Her big personality is what made me choose her at the shelter. She is the only long haired cat I have ever owned & I am slightly allergic to her. When she sits on my lap my eyes & nose itch.
