Democrats are more likely than Republicans and Independents to block or unfriend someone on social media over politics, according to a nonpartisan survey published Monday from the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI).
Twenty-four percent of Democrats unfriended or blocked someone on social media because of political posts, according to the survey results. However, only nine percent of Republicans and nine percent of Independents said they did the same.
“Political liberals are also far more likely than conservatives to say they removed someone from their social media circle due to what they shared online (28% vs. 8%, respectively),” PRRI explains of its survey. “Eleven percent of moderates say they blocked, unfollowed, or unfriended someone due to what they posted online.”
The study also found that Democratic women are more likely than Republican women and men from both parties to remove someone from their social media circle over political disagreements.
Thirty percent of female Democrats admitted to removing someone from their social media network, while only eight percent of Republican women admitted to doing the same. Fourteen percent of Democratic men said they did this, while ten percent of Republican men said they unfollowed, unfriended, or blocked someone based on political posts.
The nonpartisan poll questioned 1,004 adults from Dec. 7 to Dec. 11.
i've had to hide several people on FB who still don't accept the election results, and who really thought that the electoral college vote on Monday would change said election results. but i haven't blocked anyone.
on the other hand, several people have deleted and blocked me, even though i don't do any politics whatsoever on my FB page. i can only assume it was because they knew i'm a Republican.
I thought the last paragraph was pretty interesting.
More Democrat women (30%) blocked or unfriended than Republican men (14%) did, but more Republican men (10%) blocked or unfriended than Republican women (8%) did.
I've unfriended a few people but not because of politics. It's because of the idiotic white shaming posts and articles. If they think I'm such a racist just because I'm white than piss on them, we shouldn't be friends anyway. And the crazy part is, most of them are white!

Or was it a bad five minutes that you milked all day?
I never post anything political on Facebook. However the day before the election i had enough of the liberal vomit so i finally got on and blasted their posts. Then i was unfollowed, lol.
The only person I unfriended during the election cycle was a rabid liberal who wasn't actually my friend. I don't know them, and I think I originally friended them to find someone else or do something. So, there was no reason to keep them, anyway.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I unfollowed a couple people during the election this year. Mostly because I didn't want to read their opinion twelve times a day. I already knew how they felt.
I wonder what the statistics are regarding whether republicans or democrats are more likely to have lots of friends of both political persuasions. For instance, if republicans mostly have other republicans for friends then it would make sense that they are less likely to unfriendly someone over political posts.
I only disconnected with one couple. It wasnt really a big loss tho. I havent seen them in 18 years and the only time they ever interacted with me was to offer negative comments.
How can you tell if you are unfollowed by someone?
For me, it is when someone who was always quick to "like" your posts, all of the sudden doesn't "like" anything anymore. And, you know they are really pissed if you post a pic of your kid and they dont even "like" that, lol.
It's getting a little annoying now. Political posts BEFORE the election had a purpose, to help inform people. Now, they are mostly just whining or gloating, and that's getting tiresome.

I haven't seen too much gloating honestly. But, tonight there were some on my FB from liberal relatives. It is getting tiresome. He won. Now Deal.
