I'm up and showered. Later than yesterday and then I wanted, but oh well. Headed upstairs to put on a pot of chicken stock to simmer all day to be used tomorrow. I have to go into town for a couple things, but not much. Then I have pies to bake. Oh, and finish my mom's wrapping. I got mine and dad's done yesterday, mom's up today.
I need to brave the grocery store for another dozen eggs, not looking forward to that.
I need to stop at the grocery store too. The Pats are playing at 1 this afternoon so that is when I will go. Stores have lighter traffic during the games.

I am annoyed. Last night, I went to make curry for tonight's Christmas Eve dinner. I remember clearly putting the fresh ginger root in my cart b/c I had to ask the produce guy where it was. It did not get rung up or in my bag. I didn't notice until I went to start cooking at 9:30 last night. Grrrrrr. Guess we're getting curry take out. I'm ticked and that has happened to me several times - cashiers don't realize what it is and I've actually seen them throw it away. I had an older training lady checking me out, though - it never occurred to me I would have to check.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
DH's (adult) son showed up early this morning - 7:00!
I'm still sleeping - its a good thing DH heard his truck.
He dropped off 12 1-gallon bags of figs that he harvested
from his trees in LA. He requested fig jelly - not jam,
not preserves, but jelly. I found one recipe for jelly, on cooks.com.
He's supposed to stop by again tomorrow, on his way
back to LA. I'm making smoked turkey (it was given to
us), roasted mini Yukon gold potatoes, and sauced green
beans. I picked up a large bottle of sweet tea just for
him. If he's not in time for a real meal, at least I can
have left-overs for him.
Happy Christmas Eve everyone. Not much on my agenda today. I will finish reading the newest Jack Reacher book & finish eating my leftover pizza from yesterday. It is dull & rainy & chilly outside. I'm glad I don't have to leave the house. Even the cats don't want to go outside today.

I have a couple more things to wrap then I'm done. Will potentially stop at a store later on once I figure out what everyone has and may get some small stuff to equalize it somewhat. I'm also kicking around the idea of getting my parents an individual gift apiece. They needed a DVD player and we got it for them but it's a couple's gift. I'll probably pick up some earrings for my mom and a can of nuts for my dad. He loves nuts and it's one of his favorite gifts. Everyone is getting a box of the Hawaiian chocolate-covered macadamias from Costco. That will go over swimmingly.
I need a new purse and haven't found one I really like yet. I'll worry about it after the new year. Actually, knowing me, I'll just continue dragging my feet on replacing it. I'm super picky on purses so it takes me awhile to find something I love.
I need to get a Star Bucks GC to go with a gift. DD and I are going to venture out. It is a cold rainy day here.
I need to go to an allergist. I've been very nasally for weeks now. I hope it is not the dog I am allergic to, that would be tragic.
Probably mold.

There is no mold I know of in my house.
No.
But you have been spending a lot of time walking in the woods.
Mold can be under vegetation, in dirt, on plants.
Even when it is really cold and snow covers the ground.

Last pie is in the oven. Have cabbage soup to make for tonight yet to do, but have plenty of time to get that done.
Still have gifts to wrap! Ugh
Hope everyone has an awesome Christmas weekend!

Survived the store. I usually do not like the self check out lanes, but I was able to whiz right thru today.
We've been making candy all morning, chocolate fudge, peanut butter fudge and eggnog fudge. Still need to make the divinity and all of my gift candy is ready to go.

When I went out I was amazed at the lack of traffic. Grocery store was busy but not over the top.

Oh, divinity!
My great grandmother made that.
It was fabulous.

Actually, mold spores are more likely to bother you in cooler and cold weather and damp weather.
Been dealing with it with my boys since they were born.
Also, house plants can have mold/mildew in the dirt.
Mold starts in wet conditions.
Under dying vegetation.
In dirt.
Any time it is disturbed, it can cause spores to be released.
I'm not saying this is the situation here.
Simply saying it could be.

Mold may be hidden. One of our doctors had mold discovered by a painter he had hired. It was in the wall. His wife had been going through a ton of testing due to some really bad neurological issues. They thought she had Alzheimer's. She was so bad. She would come to the hospital and people would have to walk around with her because she wouldn't be able to find where she left her car. It affected her so badly they had to basically abandon the house and everything in it. The house is less than 10 years old and in a very ritzy community. They are fighting the builder and ins company in court for damages. She's now so ultra sensitive to mold they bought an RV to travel in because you never know what's lurking behind the walls in hotels.
I got rid of all houseplants when the boys were diagnosed with allergies. And we have an IQ Air purifier in the basement which really helps. I brought it up during construction to help clean the air of the dust, etc. The boys struggled a little, but got through it.
And the dog could have stuff in his fur he picks up from where ever he goes.

The same thing happened to my friend's husband. It wasn't quite Altzheimers bad but he couldn't function in his job as a real estate agent. They walked away from a beautiful dream home because of the mold. They lived in an apartment for 3 years while they built a new home from scratch to be sure all quality materials.

They lived in the house over a year after the onset of her symptoms. She just kept getting sicker and sicker. Tons of doctors all over the country. Her mother had an early diagnosis of dementia so they naturally thought that was what was wrong with her. She's still not 100%. She can't be alone, can't work any more, it's sad. They had built this house. It's in a planned community where the lots are about $100,000. I guess you just never know when this can happen.
Yep, calling the doctor tomorrow. I may just have a chronic sinus condition, but it could be allergies, I need to know and get relief. Perhaps retirement in NC is coming sooner. Not a bad thing.

My brother was talking about his continously running nose this week.
I told him it was spinal fluid.
He asked why I would say that.
I told him I watched Greys Anatomy, I know how these things work.

And so, no fires yesterday or today yet. And I am not having any sinus issues. Definitely the dry air as DD diagnosed. I am breathing fine, no blowing of the nose, no coughing. So to remedy this I want a wood burning stove with a flat top so I can place a cast iron pot of water on top. I wonder if I can charge that to my HSA?
