Media downplays Trump bump in Jackie Evancho sales
After Donald Trump’s team announced Jackie Evancho would perform at his inauguration on Jan. 20, the opera singer’s Christmas album went to No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Chart and her record sales doubled.
So why are some media outlets looking for seemingly any other reason for Evancho’s overnight turnaround?
Responding to Trump’s tweet that Evancho's album sales had "skyrocketed," the Associated Press suggested Evancho's boost was instead because "holiday albums tend to sell particularly well during the holidays."

Meanwhile Billboard suggested her performance on NBC's "America's Got Talent: Holiday Spectacular" on Dec. 19 and Dec. 29 was a main contributor.
"Of course, Trump had impact," Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture at Media Research Center, told FOX411. "The media wouldn't give credit to Trump if he personally cured cancer, discovered alien life and fed all the world's hungry."
Scott Pinsker, a branding and communication expert, claimed no matter how Trump does, the media has an inherent bias against the business mogul.
"Of course there's an intense media bias against Donald Trump, and of course the mainstream media will be more hostile to Trump than they ever were to President Obama," he told us. "Even Trump's most innocuous statements, like crediting the free publicity Ms. Evancho received from the inaugural announcement for boosting her sales, is going to be twisted and contorted to fit the media's anti-Trump narrative."
Former TV network executive Scot Safon told FOX411 that Evancho's boost in album sales goes back to the old adage that all publicity is good publicity.
"Any time an album's sales 'skyrocket' there are a lot of reasons for it, but being referenced a lot in the news cycle is a great way to remind people you have an album out there,” Safon said. “I think that anything that put her in the news helped move her music and the inauguration announcement certainly did that."
Even Evancho’s publicists acknowledged the Trump bump, saying that after the announcement, her client was besieged with record offers.
“Three record labels were suddenly courting her,” Kim Jakwerth told the New York Post. “The contract could be announced next week.”
The AP reported the 16-year-old sold 7,206 albums the week ending Dec. 15. The announcement that Evancho would sing the National Anthem at the inauguration was made on Dec. 14. The next week she sold 13,788 albums, and the following week she sold 11,096 albums, ending on Dec. 29.

The media, Hollywood and New York, New York are in their own world. Their own bubble. Everyone else is in the REAL world. Funny how things claimed by these three conglomerate loud mouths always winds up being wrong.
I'm thinking that not performing at the inauguration of a President, when they had a chance to, no matter who the new President is, would hurt them more than performing would.
"We refused to perform for Trump" will only get you recognition for a while. 20 years from now, the bands and performers that did perform will be able to say "We performed for Trump"
And that thinking would apply for whomever is being sworn in, for any year.
It's all well and fine if they choose not to perform - that is their choice. But when they start bullying and badmouthing people who do choose to do so, that's a problem.

Choose not to? Hmm, I don't think many of them were even asked. Trump seems to be putting together a more classy show, not Hollywood cheap glitz.

This inauguration is becoming a bit of a media circus. Jeepers. Perform or don't perform. Just don't turn it into a frickin' form of advertising for your music/art/whatever. The politics is over (well, the voting part, anyways). The inauguration day is a day where the results of the election are finalized. It's not up for debate any more.
What made the White House 'ghetto-esque'? The part where black people lived in it?
It doesn't appear to be decorated with gangsters, drug dealers, boarded up windows and graffiti. That's what I associate ghetto with.
They are trashy people.
Holding butt boucing celebs up as role models, siding with thugs and claiming "he could have been my son", claiming "for the first time I'm proud of America", releasing 1000s of drug dealers, promoting riots, showing sympathy for criminals but shaming police.
Ghetto-esqe.
They have done more to turn race relations back, divide the country, increase government where it shouldn't be, decrease where it is needed, treated veterans and police like criminals, treated criminals like heros, they are trashy.
Can't get them out soon enough.

Well, if I take ALL the judgemental descriptive language out (ghetto, trashy, butt-bouncing, thugs, adding slums) and turning it into a debatable paragraph based on information a and not slurs, the part I can't find evidence for is 'promoting riots' and 'encouraging race divide'. The only police shaming I am aware of is when the police NEED to be shamed. I'm sure many of you see it differently and will enjoy putting me in my place.
ANYWAYS... My post and the face palm image are in direct response to the use of the derogatory descriptions that Lily continues to use in her posts. Ghettos, trailer parks and slums are PLACES. Not people. Ghettos are as I've described above and slums fit that description as well. Trailer trash is a derogatory description of people who live in trailer parks and behave is ways that some people don't approve of. I'm sorry, Lily, that you find the need to be derogatory regarding other people's station in life. I've lived in slums and trailer parks, but that does not make me trash. I am grateful that I now have a safe, warm and well maintained home in a safe neighbourhood (at least, I'm not aware of anyone shooting up under my porch these days) and I don't feel the need to demean those who don't.
I think it's unfortunate that sometimes slums and ghettos are all people can afford. That's why I lived there. The rent was the only thing I could afford. Imagine how embarassing it was to have to borrow $20 from a coworker because rent took all my pay that month and I was pocketing food at work. Tell me ... Should I have been called trash?
Your point of view, Lily, is not what I'm debating. Call your President whatever you want. (But don't get prissy when others say the same about T). I am just sorry that you feel the need to be derogatory to those who live life differently than you. I will face-palm a slur each and every time.
Honey, a person can live in a mansion, but as rich as Bill Gates, and still be trailer trash or ghetto in their behavior.
Take the Clintons for example.
Trailer trash.
None of my post was untrue.
The ones who can not see that are part of the problem.

Once again. those things are places. And you continue to refer to others as derogatory. What does that do for you? Make you feel better about yourself? Feel like you're important? unconsciously express how you really feel about yourself? What does calling down others really DO for you?
It must do something or you wouldn't need to so adamantly a job of degrading other people. I am sorry that you feel the need it says more about you than anything else

Ferguson, MO? That was clearly proven to be a case of a police officer responding to a report and thereafter defending himself. And Obama came out publicly in support of the THUG. And regardless of whether you like the language, if the shoe fits, it fits. And the person that was killed by a police officer DOING HIS JOB AND RISKING HIS LIFE was a career criminal and a THUG.

That's why I said 'aware of'. I figured I would miss something. That someone should enjoy pointing it out.
Enjoy pointing out that you absolutely don't know what you are talking about? No, it's sad, actually. In defending him, you ignored that absolute biggest incidence in the news for the past year. Obama also high-jacked a memorial for 5 slain officers who died protecting anti-police protesters from snipers by turning it into a lecture to cops about racism and using it as a platform to promote Black Lives Matter. The officers — Michael Smith, Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Brent Thompson and Patrick Zamarripa — were killed during a Black Lives Matter protest by a black sniper who told police he targeted white officers. And a few days later, actually invited the leaders of Black Lives Matter, a group that promotes violence against the police, to the White House. It was a complete slap in the face to the families of those fallen police officers.
Of course, the biggest thing is when he says nothing at all. He will comment on the death of a black criminal by police before he even has all the facts, but doesn't bother to say a word when multiple police officers are killed in a few days.
You comment shows where the term "low information voter" comes from. People who knee jerk defend without actually knowing the facts.

They are entitled people who have taken every advantage in life that the US has offered, they took what they didn't need, benefits that people much less fortunate then they should have received. And dismantled the US for the past 8 years, and don't even care, of course our tax dollars will be supporting them the rest of their lives and they will laugh all the way to the bank. They've created an atmosphere of racism that hasn't existed in decades.

am not really certain of this--in fact, particularly with him, when some of his notes come due he may be in for a rather quick departure

??? I believe she's talking about the over $200K annual pension each former president receives, the $20K pension his wife will receive, plus the lifetime secret service protection for him, his wife and any children under 16.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Presidential retirement benefits were non-existent until the enactment of the Former Presidents Act (FPA) in 1958. Since then, presidential retirement benefits have included a lifetime annual pension, staff and office allowances, travel expenses, Secret Service protection and more.
Pension
Former presidents are offered a taxable lifetime pension equal to the annual rate of basic pay for the heads of executive branch departments, like the Cabinet Secretaries. This amount is set annually by Congress and is currently (2016) $205,700 per year. The pension starts the minute the president officially leaves office at noon on Inauguration Day. Widows of former presidents are provided with a $20,000 annual lifetime pension and mailing privileges unless they choose to waive their right to the pension.
In 1974, the Justice Department ruled that presidents who resign from office before their official terms of office expire are entitled to the same lifetime pension and benefits extended to other former presidents.
However, presidents who are removed from office due to impeachment forfeit all benefits.
Transition Expenses
For the first 7 months, beginning one month before the January 20 inauguration, former presidents get transition funding the help them transition back into private life. Granted under the Presidential Transition Act, the funds can be used for office space, staff compensation, communications services, and printing and postage associated with the transition. The amount provided is determined by Congress.
Staff and Office Allowances
Six months after a president leaves office, he or she gets funds for an office staff. During the first 30 months after the leaving office, the former president gets a maximum of $150,000 per year for this purpose. Thereafter, the Former Presidents Act stipulates that the aggregate rates of staff compensation for a former President cannot exceed $96,000 annually. Any additional staff costs must be paid for personally by the former president.
Former presidents are compensated for office space and office supplies at any location in the United States. Funds for former presidents' office space and equipment are authorized annually by Congress as part of the budget for the General Services Administration (GSA).
Travel Expenses
Under a law enacted in 1968, the GSA makes funds available to former presidents and no more than two of his or her staff members for travel and related expenses. To be compensated, the travel must be related to the former president's status as an official representative of the United States government. In other words, travel for pleasure is not compensated. The GSA determines all appropriate costs for travel.
Secret Service Protection
With the enactment of the Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012 (H.R. 6620), on Jan. 10, 2013, former presidents and their spouses receive Secret Service protection for their lifetimes. Under the Act, protection for the spouses of former presidents terminates in the event of remarriage. Children of former presidents receive protection until they reach age 16.
The Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012 reversed a law enacted in 1994 that terminated Secret Service protection for former presidents 10 years after they left office.
Medical Expenses
Former Presidents and their spouses, widows, and minor children are entitled to treatment in military hospitals. Former presidents and their dependents also have the option of enrolling in private health insurance plans at their own expense.
State Funerals
Former presidents are traditionally granted state funerals with military honors. Details of the funeral are based on the wishes of the former president's family.

I am seriously considering going to the inauguration but torn as to whether to drag the boys down there with me. On the one hand, it would be very educational, but on the other, there might be problems...although I think the security will be good and the bikers are coming, too, to protect.
I would love to go but I don't think I would take young kids.
Even in the best circumstances, it's a lot of standing and not really being able to see or hear.
I'll be watching on tv.
Ooooo.... we should do a watch party on the board!

I'll let you all know what colored coat I'll be wearing so you can watch for me in the masses...I thought I'd do red but my mom thinks there will be a lot of red there....I disagree..
You could put a propeller on one of those red hats.
