Trump inauguration boycott grows to 19 Democrat lawmakers: Congressmen will NOT attend after The Donald's feud with civil rights hero John Lewis, who said he will not be a 'legitimate President'
No less than 19 House Representatives have said they won't attend on Friday
Six of those people objected to Trump's dismissal of Rep John Lewis
Lewis, a civil rights icon, said he wouldn't attend the inauguration
He was lambasted by Trump, who said the Georgia Rep was 'all talk, no action'
Other Democrat Representatives have said they won't attend for other reason
And non-Reps, including DNC interim chair Donna Brazile, will also skip it
Hillary and Bill Clinton will be at the inauguration, however
A growing number of Democrat lawmakers are boycotting Donald Trump's inauguration this week, after a feud broke out between the President-elect and civil rights campaigner-turned-Representative John Lewis, who said he will not be a 'legitimate' President.
There are now 19 Democratic Representatives, including Lewis, saying they will spurn Trump's swearing-in in favor of focusing on their constituents or even taking part in protests and 'resistance' movements.
They include four members of Congress who said they would not attend after Trump hit back at Lewis on Twitter Saturday, saying the lawmaker - who once campaigned alongside Martin Luther King Jr - was 'all talk, no action'.
Donald Trump'd inauguration is being abandoned by Democrat lawmakers after he called Rep John Lewis (right) 'all talk and no action'. Lewis earlier said he was boycotting the swearing-in
California Representative Mark Takano tweeted this image of Lewis (far right) marching with Martin Luther King Jr during their civil rights campaign, and said he stood with Lewis
On the other side of the country, New York Representative Yvette Clarke said Trump had 'insulted America' when he made his remarks about Lewis
THE BOYCOTTERS
So far 17 Democrat Congressmen will not attend Trump's inauguration:
Arizona Rep Raul Grijalva
California Rep Judy Chu
California Rep Mark DeSaulnier
California Rep Jared Huffman
California Rep Barbara Lee
California Rep Ted Lieu
California Rep Mark Takano
Georgia Rep John Lewis
Illinois Rep Luis Gutierrez
Michigan Rep John Conyers
Missouri Rep William Lacy Clay
Massachusetts Rep Katherine Clark
New York Rep Yvette Clarke
New York Rep Adriano Espaillat
New York Rep Jerrold Nadler
New York Rep Jose Serrano
New York Rep Nydia Velazquez
Oregon Rep Earl Blumenauer
Oregon Rep Kurt Schrader
Trump's criticism came after Lewis's Friday promise not to attend the inauguration.
'I don't see this President-elect as a legitimate president,' Lewis, who has represented Georgia's 5th congressional district since 1987, told NBC News.
'I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.'
He added: 'You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong.'
Trump's furious retorts to Lewis - which also derided Lewis's district as being 'in horrible shape and falling apart' and talked of 'burning and crime infested inner-cities of the US' - led to other Democrats refusing to play ball.
New York Representative Yvette Clarke Tweeted Saturday: 'I will NOT attend the inauguration of @realDonaldTrump. When you insult @repjohnlewis, you insult America.'
Clarke's fellow New Yorker, Jerrold Nadler, tweeted: '@realDonaldTrump stands with V. Putin. I stand with @repjohnlewis.'
She was joined by three California Representatives - Ted Lieu, Mark Takano and Judy Chu - who had similar objections.
Lieu's office released a statement in which he said: 'While I do not dispute that Trump won the Electoral College, I cannot normalize his behavior or the disparaging and un-American statements he has made.'
He complained about Trump's 'racist, sexist and bigoted statements' and concluded: 'For me, the personal decision not to attend Inauguration is quite simple: Do I stand with Donald Trump, or do I stand with John Lewis? I am standing with John Lewis.'
Who CARES if they don't attend? They're acting like a
bunch of 6 year olds who didn't get elected President
of their school room. Whiney whiney whiney. We
(the people) elected you to do a job - not to shove your
personal opinions down our throats.
I wish that so called women march and the one al sharpten will stay home too. What is the point? No one is going to be persuaded by them they are just preaching to the choir so to speak.
Do these folks realize that with or without them showing up, trump WILL be our next prez? And from that moment on, they will have to find a way to work with him or else get nothing done?
If Obama wasn't impeached with all he did, how on earth could anyone else be?

It's political death to those who publicly say they won't go and will fight him. Umm Trump was elected in some part due to this type of uncooperative behavior by our politicians. They still don't get it. And the amazing things he has already done since the election are being ignored.

Personally, I think it should be mandatory for the house and Senate be there.

Up to 41. The tickets that Trump is raffling off come with airfare. I would love to go but DD gets her braces on that morning. You better believe I will be watching the ceremony. And happy I won't have see the likes of those whiny jerks in the audience eye rolling.

So, all these whiny baby Dems. Yeah, teach your kids to play fair, be gracioius and play by the rules. NOT. You who are staying home SUCK as human beings. Just saying.
I guess these VSS' will be whiny for the next 8 years. The funny thing is, Trump tweets to get his message out there and to bypass the MSM, there are so few dems left in Congress that Trump doesn't need them so he will by pass them too. They are going extinct, thinking the they need to placed on the endangered species list.

One of the balls was cancelled due to the hotel not providing cleared security. 1,200 tickets have to be refunded. There's that whack job group that are planning to throw chemicals on people, throw tacks in the road to flatten tires, and place stink gas in the HVAC systems.
I'm a bit worried about protests everywhere tomorrow, not just in DC.

I guess I'm still trying to mentally/emotionally process when exactly our country split in half with very little common ground between the two sides. I suppose it's been coming on for awhile, but it grieves me to see this. I wish our so-called leaders would try thinking of our country as a whole and work for the betterment of us all.

I can tell you when it started.
It started when we, as a nation, turned from God.

Yes Lily, definitely agreed. And I don't want to be a broken record... but the last 8 years IMHO have displayed a frightening acceleration of the downfall of the United States of America, especially on the moral side, and certainly in common sense (which has become uncommon). I'm hoping our new POTUS and the GOP (and conservative Dems as well) can turn some of this around. We shall see...
I noticed a definite change in the teaching at the colleges and high schools well over 20 years ago. I think the liberalism push was well entrenched long before then though.
Now, hopefully, we can get that reversed.
