Vacuum cleaner recommendations...

I'm thinking of getting a second vacuum, for the upstairs.

(And to have as back-up, in case my Dyson gives up the ghost.)

I don't want to spend $500 on another Dyson.

Which ones do you guys like? I'd like to keep it in the $150 range.

Thanks for any ideas you can give me.smile

I don't know.

But with vacuums, the more it sucks, the better it is.

I have a Dyson and a Shark- for the same reason, one upstairs, one down :) The Shark is a great choice. If my Dyson quits, I'm not sure I could justify spending $500 on another when the Shark is so comparable at a much lower price.

Here's what I ordered:

Shark Navigator Upright Vacuum

Shark Navigator Professional Lift-Away Upright Vacuum

Rated 4 1/2 Stars

(Click for Reviews)

Latest-Price1.png
Is this the best price?

The Shark NV356E gives you a combination of a lightweight Upright along with a detachable lightweight canister vacuum. Never loses suction Technology gives this vacuum consistent suction power. To prevent you from breathing in the dust and dirt you are vacuuming, Shark has an Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology(tm) which traps 99.99% of dust inside the vacuum. Lifetime HEPA filter. Swivel steering and smooth-gliding wheels provide easier maneuvering around furniture. Five year warranty. Brushroll on/off capability for powerful carpet and bare floor cleaning. By turning the collar around the handle, you can control the amount of suction. Important when vacuuming delicate rugs, drapes, and other uses where you may not want full suction.

Included Canister and Tools

Included Canister

The Shark Navigator Professional includes a large capacity lift-away canister, so you can vacuum your stairs, furniture, upholstery, drapes, ceiling fans, and other hard to get places. This model compares favorably to Dyson vacuums. Vacuum Includes: Professional dust-away bare floor tool (washable), Super-stretch hose, crevice tool, microfiber pads, pet hair turbo brush. The Turbo brush is great for lifting out ground-in dirt and pet hair from carpeted stairs and upholstery.

Shark Upright Vacuum Cord Length: 30 feet.
Upright Vacuum Warranty: 5 years.
Upright Vacuum Total Weight: 14 lbs. (Canister 8 lbs.)

SmartReviewTopPick6e.pngSmart-Review Commentary: The Shark Navigator Professional NV356E combines a lightweight upright vacuum with a detachable canister. To keep the air clean while you vacuum, the Shark has a sealed system along with a lifetime HEPA filter to filter out allergens and dirt. This model has features and performance similar to Dyson vacuums. Swivel steering makes it easier to maneuver than traditional fixed wheel vacuums. Included tools will help you clean bare floors. The Pet hair turbo brush will get ground in dirt, pet hair, and dust off your upholstery and stairs. This model has received excellent reviews by consumers. This model is a Smart-Review top pick and a great value for both an upright and canister.

I love Amazon Prime! $130 plus tax. Free shipping. And it will be delivered today!

Yay!

I put the Dyson in the garage. I want to wait for a warmer day, so we can take it outside to clean it.

And yes, I'm going to have Wayne help with that. After all, he's the one who gummed it up!

Fair is fair, right?wink

I'll let you know what I think, after I test out the Shark, NAOW.

I think the Shark may become my downstairs vacuum, mainly because it's so much lighter than my Dyson. (Dyson weighs 32 pounds. Shark is 14 pounds.)

It will probably be easier on my back, day in and day out.

Time will tell!wink

(My Dyson is over 10 years old, and while it's been great, I don't know that I would spend the $500 to replace it when it dies.)

I have a Kirby. It's ridiculously old - like 20+ years and has a million attachments (I'm pretty sure I could vacuum the ceiling if I felt like it). The attachments are likely because it is so old. But DAMN! For a 20+ yr old vacuum it does an amazing job!

Yes, they last forever, but they also weigh 587,598 pounds!

I'm still waiting for it to be delivered.

It should be here by 9pm.

Cheerios, you give me hope!

We have one dog and 7 cats.

I cannot be without a good vacuum for more than a day or two.wink

I hope it really sucks too, Lily!biggrin

I got the confirmation e-mail at 9:39am.

My doorbell rang at 6:15pm., and my Shark was here. Gotta love Amazon Prime!

I didn't have it in me to get it out last night, so, as soon as I get another coffee in me, I'll get it out and take it for a test drive.smile

A quick survey, just for fun.

Do you "Run the sweeper", or do you "Vacuum the carpet"?

I grew up in Ohio. It's time to "run the sweeper".wink

We vacuum the floors.

But if I get my way, there won't be a loop of carpet anywhere.

Oh my gosh, TRUDY!

You forgot to tell me this thing has automatic transmission!

I turned it on, and it dragged me around the house!!!!!!

ROFLMAO!

It sucks really well.smile

So far, I love it.

After a little break, I will try it in lift-away mode and see how that goes.

I'll be back with another report in a bit.wink

We'll get him cleaned up, and put him on bedroom duty.

This Shark is going to be the vacuum that I use daily.

I love that it's self propelled.biggrin

I agree!

I will still keep my Dyson. But "Lil' Jaws" is just as powerful, half the weight, a quarter of the money, and the attachments are much easier to use.

The dust cup is bigger too. And the cord is longer. I don't have to stop as often to unplug/replug...or empty the dust cup.

It's a winner!smile

My Kirby is self propelled. And since it weighs a ton it's like getting dragged around by a tank. It also sucks up my area rugs and I have to stop and lay them back down. Now I vacuum the area rugs while standing wide-legged holding the sides down.

My pretty, I don't want to have to turn you over my knee!wink

I have enough pet hair to vacuum up. I don't need any glitter on top of it.smile

Tig, "Lil' Jaws" sucked up one of my area rugs in the kitchen.

I'll have to try your method of holding them down with my feet.
