Slightly off topic but I'm getting so tired of all the whining and he's not my president I wont accept it blah blah blah. Even my husband is driving me nuts. I didn't vote for him but I don't want to hear it any more. And these women I know on FB that are "resisting". They like how it sounds all big and impressive but the reality is they are subject to the same laws everyone else is as long as they live here so yeah you aren't doing squat. I just say um ok to there dramatic statements. In fact it would be stupid and irresponsible if you have a family to take care if to do anything that might get you in trouble. I told that to DH. I said you're not doing a damn thing to be subversive you have a wife now mister!

On illegal immigration he is focusing on getting rid of the ones who are criminals beyond being here illegally and negotiating a bill for those who work and not leeching and not involved in criminal activity getting a work visa as long as they take the assimilation path and learn english. That is a good compromise.

LEGALLY. You can come through legally at several checkpoints, both ways. This is to stop ILLEGALS from coming in.

I would go in legally with a passport, and then I would LEAVE again after my vacation was over, leaving behind only the positive spending of my money, not an illegal drain on their society.

there are parts of mexico that are truly beautiful--near saltillo and toreon in the mountains--like the west slope of the rockies fifty years ago--south from playacar down to tuluum and beyond, in fact most of quintanna roo, the land is breathtaking and nearly empty--primordial jungle and ocean

I'm pretty sure planes will still be able to fly over.
I'm not sure too many people actually drive in to Mexico, Tig. At least no one did when I lived in So. Cal. It was too dangerous, and you'd probably never see your vehicle again. And I'm pretty sure there will remain points of entrance but they will be manned. Or womanned, so as not to offend anyone. LOL Anyway, as it stands now, or at least 20 years ago when I went to TJ, there were chain link fences with barbed wire and from the time it took to walk across the bridge into Mexico, I saw numerous people attempting to jump that fence with the federales chasing after them and dragging them to the ground. A real wall would be able to prevent this.

sad but unfortunately you're correct--we took many road trips in and through mexico years ago and other than a few federales arseholes we never had any trouble with anyone--it was safe and peaceful--over the last ten years or so with the escalation of the cartel turf wars the violence has gotten extreme--have friends who live in various parts of mexico who are at long last considering leaving due to the violence and the crime--even in san miguel, long a bastion of retired gringos, one of the " safest " areas in the country--what a lot of americans ( and canadians ) can't seem to grasp is that outside of a handful of metropolitan cities, mexico is a third world country

Off topic, but where do you recommend?
Playacar which is a gated community with a lot of all inclusive's, it is part of Play Del Carmen which is a fun town with lots of authentic Mexican shops, plus the ferry over to Cozumel is in Playa Del Carmen, only a 45 minute ride. Tuluum is great to visit as is Xchazal. The resorts in Playa Car offer bus tours to those places.

DG, look up the Yucatan Penisnula. Very nice. I would stay away from Cancun. It's a city, yeah some nice resorts but if anything bad happens it always seems to be in Cancun.
