OK - how do you feel about this term? I mean, since when is it bad to decry promiscuous behavior? I realize the whole "guys are studs, girls are sluts" is an issue, but personally - I have no more respect for a dude that dips his willy into anything wet and wiggly than I do a woman willing to be the wet and wiggly for numerous guys.
And really, it's NOT ok to be sleeping around with multiple people at the same time. It's GROSS.
But truly, my real issue is the ones that don't care who they are hurting.
Now, you ask, why is this coming up? Well, I just finished watching the Gilmore Girls revival, and I am very upset at how they have ruined Rory's moral character. It's awful.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
If you're bumpin uglies with anything and everything, you are a slut.
I don't care if you are male or female.
As for Rory, I never watched more than a few minutes of any episode.
It was obnoxious and annoying to me.
I did scan the reunion series for Jared Padalecki.
His 2 minutes was all I could handle.

I don't like the term "slut", and I disagree with "shaming" anyone. There's nothing wrong with a little promiscuity. What's wrong is doing it with every Tom, Dick, and Harry, or every Sue, Jane, and Mary. Sex shouldn't be "with only one partner for the whole of your life", but it also shouldn't be "with the whole football team or cheerleader squad every weekend" either.
There once was a saying "variety is the spice of life". Sex should enjoy a little variety too.
Not okay with slut shaming. As it is usually used to justify bad behavior by others with the excuse that she is a 'slut' and therefore asking for it or deserves it.
As for Rory- yea, her character's change didn't really make sense. I think they were dead set on using Amy Sherman Palladino's original ending, but in order to make it play out right they had to take a lot of liberties.
There is nothing wrong with the concept of Shame. Shame is a healthy emotion in the right doses. When we do something wrong, we should feel shame about it. However, like everything on the planet, it goes to far one way or the other. Doing something wrong, feeling shame , and then repenting or doing better in life is very healthy. On the other hand, the shameless don't seem to care. That isn't healthy either. However, there is toxic shame. Where people are shamed mercillessly or for a lifetime, etc.

I do not have a problem with women who have sex with a number of partner, as long as all are willing and there isn't a commitment. However, sleeping around on your significant other or with someone who is in a monogamous relationship is a morality issue. Not a SLUT issue, but a being a douche issue.
And since Rory cheated with Dean in the first go round, this is actually NOT a new moral character flaw for her.

I agree.
Although in regards to Rory, she is an adult now who definitely knows better, especially since she has made this mistake before and seemed like she learned from it. Once is a mistake, twice is a choice.
Well, this new time around - it was all levels of morally wrong. She had a boyfriend she was cheating on with a guy also engaged to someone else and then has a one-night stand with a third person. I mean, when you are pregnant, and people are trying to figure out who is the father among 3 people (and some have no problem thinking their are 4 or 5 possibilities), then you might be a slut.

well, have found that most promiscuous women are insecure--though have known a few certified nymphos, for the most part, women that sleep around are desperate for attention/acceptance/validation--shaming them would seem to be a waste of time

I can agree to that diagnosis. There is a lot of things in life that is self detrimental or circular tho. At some point a person should probly work to get OFF the hamster wheel tho eh?
my lady took me off the merry-go-round for good--from the moment i met her to this moment now, have never wanted or needed any other woman--for anything--she stole my heart completely but, on hearing the same from me over the years, she smiles that gorgeous smile and says " It's OK. We can share. "
am blessed indeed

I don't think a woman is a slut for liking sex and enjoys new experiences.
The slut behavior is when she wants her man, your man, their man, and every other man at the same time.
One night stands can be very satisfying and exactly what is needed, but only if you are not involved with anyone else.
I know, strange coming from me.
