I am up over an hour early today to go pick my friend up and take her to work. She decided to try skiing last weekend and it didn't go well. The doctor thinks she may have torn her ACL. She's unable to drive, so I'm going to pick her up.
Made it to work. It was quite icy but the main roads were in pretty good shape considering we got 15 inches of snow yesterday. Stay warm peeps and happy Friday!

I was the first of my friends to have a car, so I've always given rides places.
Back then, my rule was anyone riding paid a dollar to cover gas.
I was never out of gas, often had extra money.
Good times.
It's 27 with a real feel of 33. Clear skies, sun is waking up.
Hope everyone has a good day.

I got the beach house in DE again this year. My parents are going, like they did last year. DH invited his sister. She's excited! Should be fun, I hope.
He asked me before inviting her. I hope this bridges the gap that has been created over the last few years. I miss the fun times we had before his father drove a wedge between them.
I am SO ready to get this weekend started. Masquerade dinner shindig tonight, lunch at a fancy schmancy hotel in the Springs tomorrow, Home and Garden show on Sunday. Monday I work but take lunch to surprize decorate hubby's office... then for Valentines day Tuesday it is ANNIVERSARY TIME AT THE BROWN PALACE HOTEL IN DENVER! Overnight stay includes afternoon tea and champagne breakfast next morning. Tuesday night is mystery murder dinner, and then I have a special bath with a bath bomb (with a surprize ring inside). Wednesday we do a 'big city scavenger hunt'.
Whew! This coming weekend and valentines is gonna be FUN!
Hope you feel better soon fwm. I agree about a hot shower and I might add a hot cup of tea helps wonders for a cold. Your weekend sounds like fun Cheerios. Having a combine Birthday dinner for Dh and son tonite
and my grandson is staying the nite with us for the first time. My son requested that for his birthday so they can sleep in.
Mom can't find her laptop, I can't find a card I bought for my brother, dad's flashlight is missing, Monster's leash is gone.
There are other things that's gone missing in the last 2 weeks.

Who else has done something crazy for a friend?
happy Friday all. We made it!
Oh my goodness. I went skiing with a friend a few years back. And, on the last run of the day, she fell and tore her ACL. When she stood up her knee was unstable and you could see it swaying. She did manage to ski down the hill.
I put my neck out on the line for friends at work, fixing their paperwork and whatnot.
Going to pick up my wedding dress today!

I would. Not now, of course, but as a teenager with the only car? Heck yes. I didn't have the money to be hauling people everywhere and covering the cost of it.
But, usually, we were all in it together and we pooled money for gas - it was never an issue.

If I couldn't afford it I couldn't afford it. Now, if they OFFERED that's another story, but me personally I would never tell my friend "you can't get in until you show me the money" lol

She had to have ski patrol bring her down. She has an MRI on Wednesday to see if it's fully torn or what the deal is.
Rest of my day has been fine. A little busy, but the good busy. Took friend home at lunch, she needed to elevate and ice. Then I found out they have finally hired someone for the admin position. And I got told where my office will now be. It's a nice big one 😀 Going to start slowly moving my stuff so my current office is ready when the new occupant starts.

I'm with you Vette. I also never just drove someone somewhere (as a teenager). I was the one with a car, so I usually drove. I never charged, but would accept if they offered. Also, I was the most, um, well off of my friends, so it never occurred to me to ask. These days we all just take turns driving wherever we are going. It all evens out. And with bringing friend to work, I am going quite out of my way, but she's my best friend, I don't mind. She offered to buy me lunch today, but I already had plans.
It was a warm 40 degrees today - finally after weeks of freezing temps of 10 or below. Took the dog out for a nice long walk. He rolled all around, ran all over campus, came home and got a bath and now he is zonked out!! Probably won't wake up now if the house was on fire !

Oh my goodness. I'm stuffed! Absolutely stuffed!
DH wanted to take me out for prime rib for my birthday.
We went on line to find someplace to go, but here, IN THE
MIDDLE OF CATTLE COUNTRY, we couldn't find a restaurant
that offered prime rib.
So. I told him we'll settle for a rib-eye steak. My choice
was Trail Rider's Grill. I'm sooooooo glad I chose that!
As soon as we walked in the door, I saw on their white board
PRIME RIB!
21 oz $xxx
14 oz $xx
One appetizer (perfect fried mushrooms), 3 beers, 3 white
wine, one chicken fried steak (that covered the entire oval
plate), and one absolutely phenomenal prime rib, plus one
bread pudding to-go $66. Not bad for a celebration dinner!
And we're stuffed. Our to-go boxes included dessert, one
for a combo of fried okra and broccoli (still crisp and bright
green), one for the trimmings from my prime rib - for the
outdoor kitties, and one large container for the au jus that
accompanied my prime rib. If any of you look at Trip Advisor,
read my review of Trail Riders. On a scale of one to ten, I
gave them a 15! And the service was exceptional!'
I'm so glad to be able to give a good report on a local
restaurant. We're already planning to return for DH's
birthday dinner - as long as it is on a Friday!

Exactly! And it's been so cold we are all a little stir crazy. Sick of being indoors. Although there hasn't been much snow this year. And it's not been in the negatives very much like it usually is. Could be much worse - just feels bad for some reason this year when it really isn't.

Do I want to undertake the adventure of flying with DS or have him go with his grandparents via car and I'll fly out and meet them?
I'm considering going with my parents on their annual trip to Texas this summer so I can see that part of my family. I don't get to see them often and I don't know how much longer my maternal grandma will be around. They usually stay for a month but I don't want to stay there a month so I'm considering flying out to meet them when they have about 1.5 - 2 weeks left then drive home with them. They've already asked about taking DS with them so I already have a yes answer re DS going with them. They want me to go too but I just don't want to be gone for a month. I'm sure they wouldn't mind picking me up at the San Antonio airport.
Looked up fares on Southwest today and it'd be just shy of $200 for me. The website said I'd have to call customer service re child fare. I did call to inquire if I'd need a car seat - I don't, which is a good thing since my parents could just take the car seat with them. But, I might be able to swing a cheaper fare if I do a layover, which I don't mind and would be easier without DS. I will only have a carry on since I would send a suitcase with clothes and toiletries with my parents.
I also looked up Amtrak prices because I was curious if it'd be markedly cheaper to travel via train. It isn't. $50 cheaper but 18 hours longer. 2 hours via plane, 20 hours via train. No thanks! I find it interesting how I can make the drive from Phoenix to San Antonio in less time than the train can make the trip.
If I do go, I will have access to a car so if anyone is in the San Antonio area or would want to travel there, I'd be up for a meet. Momala - If I go, I plan on visiting Dick's on the Riverwalk. I've been wanting to return to that place since you introduced me to it!

Maybe I had better friends than you guys. This was never an issue, everyone always chipped in, and gave me gas money if they asked me to take them somewhere.

Back when I was a teenager, a gallon of gas was $0.89.
We went all over the place.
Concerts, shows, games, parties.
I had season tickets for concerts in the country and just about every weekend we took off to either Calhoun or Lanier.
Or we were going to the amusement parks or something.
If 1 person went, I had to put the bulk of the gas in.
If 3 went, I had almost a half tank.
Shoot, I could fill my car up with $10.
I was a school kid, if we wanted to go, we had to have the gas money.

I lived in Michigan where bottle deposits were 10 cents each. There were many times when we all raided our houses for the bottles to return and used that money.

I wouldn't say I had bad friends. If we actually went somewhere, there was usually gas money involved. But living in a small town, a tank of gas lasted 2 weeks, even with all kinds of running around. Plus, as I said, I was more privileged than my friends. It's not that they took advantage, but they got the advantage of that.
I grew up in a really small town - none of us were what you would call privileged. I had a beater of a car that my mother wouldn't let me drive more than 20 miles in any direction. But we went to the beach - a lot. And we practically lived out of my car. We climbed in through the windows like in the General Lee, and put the seats down in the back and made a lounge.

I'd have a car for a week or two and come home and he'd say "give me the keys, I sold the car" and I'd drive what ever else he gave me the keys to.
I cleaned the cars up and got to drive them until he sold it.

I had a Pinto but my bff had a Camaro. We took her car a lot, but I would drive it, especially if we went to Hollywood or L.A.. I would help out with gas money. We cruised a lot. Around town, Hollywood, wherever. Gas was $.99 per gallon.
